Nice one guys! And yes baiting but only if done responsibly and if contributes to a sustainable economy and done randomly. Cheerio 🌊💙

My son and I dive Monterey all the time. When we saw a video of a Great White shot at the Metridian Fields by San Carlos Beach in August 2019 we try to go there more often. Seeing a shark in the wild, especially a GW, is a bucket list item.

I figure that us Monterey and North Coast divers have all gone diving with Great Whites. It's just that they've seen us and we haven't seen them.

Does his information come simply from experience, or is he educated in marine biology/marine conservation?

My girlfriend and I were on a live aboard spear fishing in the Dry Tortugas. I was a new diver. We were out and my girlfriend had got three fish with here speargun. We were going along she looked back and saw a shark just back behind me. She pointed back and put her hand up like a fin. I looked back and saw what we think was a nurse shark about three feet behind my fins. It didn’t seem to be trying to get any closer. I rolled to my back so I could see better. I am a big guy 6’4” 255 lbs. we think the shark was trying to decide whether to go past that big thing to get to the three little fish on my girlfriend’s stringer on her waist. I stopped and was standing in front of the shark and my girlfriend can around beside me with her speargun. The shark didn’t seem to be agresiva. My girlfriend poke it with the speargun in the nose the shark turned she poked in the ribs and the shark just swam off. We figured the shark decided it wasn’t worth the hassle. We never felt that we were in danger but the 5’ or 6’ shark was closer then we wanted. It makes for an interesting story. Of my first close in counter with a shark.

Back in Mexico we use to go out for lionfish hunting, there is a invasive spicy and nurse sharks always came very close due the smell of the dead lionfinsh. But just curious, as you mention, never aggressive.

I believe if you have to throw bait in the water to attract sharks for an interaction, your doing it wrong.
Baiting a shark while divers are around, the shark thinks it will get a free feed every time that same shark sees a diver. They learn new skills, just like all other animals.
As for baiting sharks brings in money, that’s just down to not knowing your area or knowing how to interact with sharks in general.
Have you seen the video of the tiger shark biting the divers head? Would that have happened if they weren’t baiting the shark?
    I don’t think so.
Spearfishing all ready teaches sharks about divers equals free food. Scuba divers blow bubbles. This is our only defence when sharks come for investigation. I’ve been a professional fisherman, I spearfish, I scuba and free dive. I live in a great white nursery area. I’m speaking from experience, not theory.
