    I played around with the game for roughly the same amount of time and completely agree. I can see this being an okay-ish mmo if it had been built for pc and console with proper controls instead of this touch screen bullcrap. But when the most effective way to go about "playing" the game is on auto pilot to compensate for the dreadful interface, you're not actually playing. Which defeats the purpose of a game.

    This game crushed me. The trailers looked absolutely amazing. Then I saw gameplay footage, and it looked more primitive than a 2004 MMORPG. Worst part for me is the mess of a User Interface the game has, and what I like to call screen vomit.
    It takes the worst elements of Genshin Impact and cranks it to 11, without the FUN gameplay and exploration that Genshin has to offer. Reminds me Ragnarok Online Origin Mobile, which was just as much a disappointment.

    This is really a let down. Not just because it's yet another busywork disposable mobile game, but because all this beautiful art, world design and development time could have gone into a real Ni No Kuni game. Even if they just wanted to do an action RPG spin-off, just put it in Switch/PS4/Xbox and give us a decent 15~20 hour side game. That would have been fine with me

    • @HybridAngelZero

    I trust your judgement on things like this, and I think it's a shame that they did this to Ni No Kuni, but I can't say I'm surprised. I liked both the main line games, but Wrath of the White Witch is the one that does it for me. The story, art direction, music, everything, and even the battle system and the Familiars oozed charm. I did like the second title too, but it felt like an attempt to take the IP mainstream and fully open up the game's demographic. So, in my mind, a mobile game, as much as I don't even like the idea of it, felt like the next logical step, especially with the direction parts of the gaming industry seem to be heading. Part of me is kind of hoping this is just to regenerate interest and to build funds for a third main title, but even if that's the case, I have some serious doubts about what they would do for a third main line entry.
    Great video as usual. I didn't know anything except for the game's existence, so I was kind of interested and very curious, but not at all now after your review.
    Thanks for the review and all your other videos. Keep them coming, and I'll keep watching them

    The best mobile games only have auto play for redundant, repetitive, grindy content, and let you play through the interesting content.
    Though I've also seen games where combat is auto play and the game play centers around army management such as training, gearing, resource management, and team building. The ones that have a lot of depth for those latter mechanics can be pretty decent if you're into those more administrative type games.

    "Played" it for about 2 hours (1 on my tablet, one on the PC). And I use quotation marks because I didn't really do much, the manual combat is so bad that it's actually easier to use auto-combat. The only reason to play the game might be the story, but there's no way I'm wasting my time on this "game" just to see it.

      Even though it had a rough global lunch, with the Chinese version being worse, it had become one of the best mobile games in China through the dedication of the fan base and the devs actually listening to their audience.

    I agree with everything you said. I started on IOS, then moved to PC where the controls are better. It is possible to click the quest button to turn off the auto-questing and do it yourself. I tried this a couple of times, but there's little incentive to explore, so it quickly became tedious just trying to find the quest-giver in a sea of other NPCs and players. I think you can likewise turn off auto-battling, but the auto-battle AI is so much faster than me that it didn't make much sense to do so. About the only thing I did do was to sit there for literally 30-45 minutes at the end of my play session collecting rewards. You get rewards for everything you (don't) do, and then you get rewards for getting those rewards, and rewards for that too. It takes forever to get through it all. I may give it another chance to see if it gets better somehow, but I kind of doubt it. They've definitely captured the flavor of the previous two games in the world, characters, and music, but that seems to be about all it has going for it.

    I wish we could have a proper third game- -one that either brings back towns/locations from the first game, or at least explains why they're not featured in the sequel. I loved the second game, but there were so many unanswered questions about the lore surrounding the world. To me, the sign of a good fictional world is when the player wants to learn everything they can about it, and this series definitely has one.

    • @emmausgamer

    I have absolutely loved the Ni No Kuni franchise for years and was so excited to play this. Playing the game though feels so underwhelming. Character models, story beats and music is just completely and shamelessly ripped from the previous games.

    Hello David, I found this video while having played a couple of hours of Cross Worlds, and you hit the nail on the head for the autoplay and janky controls. The game also suffers from bad mobile MMO 'features' like multiple gatcha systems for familiars, gear & costumes and endless menu navigation.
    As a mobile gamer, I would think that developers would strive for better game design on the platform, but it is sadly not the case here (for me). This release was a big disappointment and will be deleted from my device.

      Hey shin, I just would like you to know that none of the Gacha systems in the game actually carry any weight in CP gain etc, yes you can pull those high tier weapons for Diamonds but those Diamonds are quite rare there is plenty of quests to get multiple different tickets to pull on both the Familiar and the Equipment Gacha, the things that essentially cancel out these systems carrying any weight is the Crafting system you can pull 1-4 star weapons and equipment out of them, you can also farm in chaos field for 3 star weapons, as I said in previous comments the game doesn't actually run specifically on auto and it actually can lead to your downfall in most cases with that being said the only aspects of the game that are able to be done completely with auto is Story and the Dailies, all online content such as PvP and the Field and World bosses as well as The power up quests etc cannot be done strictly on auto because you will loss, I recommend actually playing the game yourself rather than letting someone decide for you with only an hour of gameplay that is not at all enough in a game like this.

  • @unstablepenguin2384
    @unstablepenguin2384 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The auto is great for times where you really don't care to play the game... like doing daily's are mindless questing, which is apparent to all MMO.
    But there is content that you don't want to auto through, like dungeons, world bosses, field bosses, PVP, Kingdom battles and defense and such.
    You don't think people in Genshin would want an auto function for the daily quests? Or artifact grinding?
    Also about the control. It is on PC. I have mine set so it auto uses the basic attack, but i decide when to use my abilities. I heard they are adding controller support soon.

    I absolutely agree, I really wish this were less of a typical mobile game! I love the world and story of Ni No Kuni, but this on the rails stuff gets old fast. I will say, at level 30 I did a group boss fight where the auto-combat was completely disabled, and that was a somewhat enjoyable MMORPG kind of experience. But it's nothing compared to the first two games.

    I think this game would be better if you could toggle the automation on or off. I kind of like automatically heading toward the quest locations so I can level up my equipment and familiars while traveling, but you can’t turn off the automated battle system despite having the buttons to actively participate in the fight. That’s my biggest flaw with the game.

    • @danielelbow
      @danielelbow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To turn off the automatic combat in Cross Worlds, you'll need to hit the tiny swords button on the right of the Familiars bar at the bottom. You can click through options like semi-automatic, fully automatic, and off. To actually, totally, turn it off though, you need to hold the button down

    WASD is your friend. If you link the account, it is much better with keyboard controls. There is also a play to earn mechanic on the Marble X blockchain. I found the questing to be designed fairly well, with each developing supporting characters, building the world, a playable tutorial in disguise, or a combination of all three. The voice acting was also well done with excellent music and the design to use Cluu as a way to express the player's thoughts while using the concept of being in a virtual reality game to break the fourth wall and challenge conventional video game cliches in a cute and charming way was superb.

    I personally loved this game. All the auto quest stuff and auto battling is optional. You can turn it all off. The auto quest does go by itself and u do have to turn it off. I think that could have been better but I don't mind just clicking to turn it off rq. I don't understand what everyone's mad about tbh. The combat is definitely difficult. There's no tracking stuff ya. I was worried at first but I got the hang of it and was able to fight pretty well. The regular basic attack is flawed though. Not letting u move while shooting is defiitely a let down but it's certainly not a game ruiner for me. Overall great story and fun social aspect. Great auto option for the younger audience as well.

    I'd say the official PC version plays better than playing on emulator since you can actually move with the keyboard and adjust the camera with mouse separately. Hotkeys are ok too, though not yet changeable. Can't lie though, the auto-play is pretty bothersome. Since you can't see the quest marker when you're moving manually, you're pretty much forced to go auto most of the time. Auto-play is pretty useful when you just want to farm shit in an area, but I don't want to have to use it all the time.

    I'm glad I actually played to lvl 45 before watching your video, or I'd have skipped this great game. This is such a great semi-casual game, perfect for people who aren't looking to spend half of their days in a game but still get to enjoy the contents and community. What I find funny is how most people who quitted the game found it fair to devalue the game even before unlocking half the contents. You'll actually be thankful that you aren't forced to manually press your skills on every cooldowns while trying to position yourself correctly for the bosses' mechanics(yes, they exist).
    I played many mmos, including hardcore ones like WoW, Diablo 2-3, Lost ark, and several more. Got to say this game hit the sweet spot for me, allowing me to live my actual life and still get a relaxing escape from it when I want to.
    The only downside to this game is the p2w bundles they shove in your face everytime your progress advance. They make players so tempted to overspend their budget. Is the game p2w? Yes, very much so. It's very easy for whales to progress in the game, buy dupes with cash, and so on.

There's so many options to actually turn off all the auto so, if people wanted to, it could be played like a normal game. I find it funny how people complain about the auto when almost all mobile games are going to have an auto function. And yes the p2w bundles do get annoying at times lol

      I think people in Europe and North America are biased against mobile games because they don't realize that most of the world can't afford a console or PC that cost twice as much where they live and wages are a quarter of what they are used to. There are far more 'mobile gamers' than snobby elitest gamers though due to the sheer accessibility. Poor people deserve to play the best IPs too.
