How normal people think: “just pay for the potion.” 🧪 How thieves think: _”just steal the magic staff first, then come back later to loot the other potions.”_ How I think: “why would I even bother going in there? I’m broke and indebted, I probably can’t afford anything in the store.”
Link's Awakening has a similar interaction where the shopkeeper will just murder you, point blank if you return to the store after robbing him and everyone will call you a thief.
It's like Master Roshi Kamehameha style. Also Sabin's "Aura Cannon" blitz attack in Final Fantasy VI. Link's Awakening (1993) & Final Fantasy VI (1994) released during Dragon Ball Z's final seasons in Japan, so the Kamehameha had become iconic right around then.
Shopkeepers and chickens, the two most powerful beings in any RPG, and they never want to help the hero complete the quest to literally save the world from destruction.
Who's going to buy their items (which are only really useful to an adventurer on a quest) if the world ISN'T in danger? As for the chickens, suffice it to say, we have no reason to interfere with the conflicts of mortalkind, just as men feel no need to prevent ants from warring with one another.
Would be cool to see an RPG game where after you defeat the boss and save the world, you set up shop and sell your items to new adventurers, as you have no further use for them.
@dj__alien it isn't quite the same, but you might like moonlighter. It's a dungeon crawler where you sell stuff during the day and go to the dungeon during the night. Oh, and this game also has an amazing soundtrack.
Imagine the villain despite being evil is just a prim and proper gentleman. :p "My word! I would never do such a thing like some kind of barbarian!" XD
I like the fact there are shopkeepers in rpg’s out there that are perfectly capable of saving the world either it be from having the literal weapons and armor in stock for beating the villain, or just having the magic to do so anyway.
What's funny is that there's literally a chest with a few potions in it right behind the waterfall just to the right of the shop. It's basically impossible to steal from the shop until MUCH later in the game lol
On a similar note, if you play Cadence of Hyrule, you’ll know this lesson *VERY* well! Seriously, the guy shoots lasers at you if you try blowing up his shop!
My favorite example of this is in the Spelunky HD game. Yes, you can steal from them, but then they will run at you at Mach 3 with a shotgun. Not just that, but whoever you stole from will call up his shopkeep buddies, and every single shopkeep for the rest of the game will be pissed. Not only that, but they’ll station one shopkeep at the end of each level, making it SO hard to even leave
I prefer the games that instead of making it a insta kill, they make it a extremely hard boss fight or like in resident evil where there’s an extreme punishment for it, that being the shop keeper never appears again.

I adore the fact that the shopkeeper, even as a mage, opened with just braining the thief with the staff.
Just gotta flex that quarterstaff proficiency sometimes
Shopkeeper was furious lol.
Magic can be a poignant art, but sometimes you need not be subtle to get your point across.

I always wanted that shopkeeper to be an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros
@@KreshWC He should have reincarnated as a shopkeeper in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
To bring up another OP shopkeeps of Nintendo, I have heard that the Shopkeeping Kecleon duo are equally as wrathful and powerful as a flock of Cuccos.

Why use a fragile stick when u have these hands!
Well, the point of staves are chanelling magic or something like that, like it powers up your magic even if you can use it with your bare hands 🤓🤓🤓
it's a Staff of Teleportation, obviously, it's no good for anything other than teleporting and showing off your quarterstaff proficiency.

It's a teleportation staff, probably also grants a boost to max mana too.

Please keep doing these! I don’t know the lore or anything but they’re so smooth and charming
Gotta love it when your chill old shopkeeper starts absolutely blasting the moment you steal or even see if they can take damage
