Always liked Cameron’s vocals, one of my favorite tracks off their debut was near DT, MI which once again features Cameron screaming. I just feel like although geordie’s voice is so proggy and eccentric, Cameron really grounds everything when it needs to be, I just find that his passages feel a little bit more raw, less theatrical. And to be honest I though he killed it on eat men eat, the kind of idiosyncrasies in the melody I felt worked really well in building that dizzying feel(although I don’t know how ”grounded” his vocals really are on that particular track)

Doesn’t really describe the sound great, it used location and then a related older genre and then the modernity and slaps it together in one great big descriptor that is clunky.

Checked this album out after listening to the first few minutes of this review a couple days ago. Think i've listened to it all the way through like 5 times since lol. It's just so entertaining on every level. The music is nuts and stays exciting and innovative the whole way through, the lyrics are bizzare and I get a weird like Coraline vibe at times (mostly thinking of 27 questions with the Freddie Frost live will reading (lol?)) and the vocal delivery is at 12/10 with just being so theatrical and over the top. It felt like Black country, new road meets swans, and then gets high on bath salts and krokodil. A total blast of an album that feels like watching a really good movie.

Soul Glo, Petrol Girls, BCNR, Viagra Boys, and now black midi all getting 9/10s, as well as a good amount of groups getting 8s like Gospel and Otoboke Beaver. As much as I love Ants From Up There this is so far the only album to come out that I would consider definitely better. But my feelings on those two albums are so drastically different. Ants is interesting and ambitious but we also know its the end of an era. Hellfire, despite being ripped out of the pages of a 20th century author for all of its talk of sports, races, Pirates, and more, is ironically a look at the future and what music can still be.

And as much as a Primus meets Zappa meets Gogol Bordello seems like a great combination of influences in my head...I've just never really been able to get into black midi's particular soundscape. I think its because I've never been able to really get behind spoken lyrics or super theatrical lyrics (especially if combined) when they represent the majority of the vocal track in rock/punk/metal/.
