Holy crap can this woman sing. Loved this song since I was a kid.
@@templarrising6299 right? She's a huge talent with a top tier heritage who recorded good songs. It's a mystery.
@@templarrising6299 honestly, I've had this song in my head for about 4 days now. Isn't it weird how you come across a song you haven't heard or thought about in years then you hear some random person listening to it on their playlists and then "Bam" it gets stuck, but what a great song to be playing in the background of my mind.
She sure can sing. She pronounces all her words proper in her singing and makes it sound good. That is rare,
@@rosannecash4084 OMG the real "Rosanne Cash" with her brand new youtube account, 1 subscriber and no videos! Hahahahahahahahaha
She is more vocally accurate than any computer could ever be!
Her voice is so clear, you just wanna hear more and more of it!, She was under rated IMHO.
She sounds like a female Johnny, & I mean that in the most complementary way…..
I can tell that’s her daddy…..
One of the most underrated singers ever. Could it be because she was just know as Johnny's daughter?
She was always known as his daughter but she has always been known as "Rosanne Cash" a star in her own right! Damn I love this song!
@@stevegarvey5607 I meant underrated as a singer not this song. She had so many more songs as a singer and writer.
I wish more "Stars" from today had half the class and talent this woman has. My heart just loves her voice!!!
So true. When did we go back to bubblegum pop which paved the way for a liot of great music, but I don't think music is evolving much these days.
All these years later, and still one of my all-time favorite vocal performances.
This song sorta sneaks up on you. The more you listen to it, the better it gets.
i've always loved this one, probably my favorite country song ever
I have loved this song ever since it first came out. You listening too? It is January 1st 2020!!!
Me to !! I'm 58 Love This Great Ladies music as much as her Famous Father Here's to The Oldies ! ✌️✌️🎶🎶🎶
Her voice is so clean and pure. Class all the way.
Hello Joan how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
I remember first hearing her sing and thinking it sounded like she was singing through some kind of smoke...screen? I don't know how to describe it, other than it seemed like some kind of affect that made her voice seem so unique and striking that there had to be something else behind it. I guess not.
I could listen to her sing this one over and over again. Her energy is contagious.
When country didnt suck. What a beautiful lady.Dressed classy and lets her amazing voice talk for her.Very few female vocalists back then or today can match her voice.
@@jodybrooks531 exactly. People don't know what real country is now days.
She dresses classy too. She doesn’t have to come on stage wearing next to nothing.
Some great artists came out of that generation (very late '70s./early '80s), especially great female artists. In addition to Rosanne, there was Lacy J. Dalton and Gail Davies.
I am not a die hard country music fan, but Rosanne Cash is the greatest. She comes across as your warm friendly next door neighbor as well. Nothing phony about her. a great talent.
Johnny Cash left behind a legend in his daughter Roseanne Cash. what a voice, beautiful lady.

That's when music with music I used to listen to this song I was probably 8 or 9 years old 10 years old driving around in my dad's 72 Chevy pickup he worked for general motors that was such a good time back then this song brings so much memories
And still listening in 2020....❣️

@@okcman34 mine too. This is song has a lot of words. One of my all time favorites.
Not only does she sing it beautifully, she wrote it herself!
Watched an interview where she said she originally had 23 verses, hardest part was paring it down to fit album
I always remember being a child and hearing her voice on the radio. Some of my best memories.
The lyrics are pure genius and so is her voice. Love this.
Hello Lorraine how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Yes, sometimes it the great beat of the lyrics that make a song like this great.
Back when singers sang. No autotune, just competence. Miss that about music.
Of course this was not live and it was lip sync but yeah I know what you mean.
They still sing. If you don't like the ones that use autotune, simply don't watch them.
Wow, she first sang this about 38 years ago. She sounds and looks just like she did back in 1981! amazing forsure

She was 22 yr.s old when she wrote this song! Talk , about. Talent, She did good!
The moodiness of this song is 🔥.
It’s the perfect blend of pop and country and the simplicity of her silky voice. Damn. You don’t need to always be able to hit whistle notes or have an outrageous range.
Sometimes just smooth as buttah is enough. ❤️
It certainly didn't hurt Karen Carpenter either. She never needed to hit those "whistle high" notes, because doing that would only show one's ego, not necessarily talent.
Still listening to this song 2019.
The lyrics are outstanding along with the melody and the voice and the way she moves. perfection
When country music was country ❤
this is an awesome. used to hear it a lot on country music radio. But it's actually a lot poppy than country

My favorite song by her..... Can listen to it for hours & hours
Yep. Put it on loop on youtube myself. Went to number one in 1981 , well deserved. imo
You can hear shades of her father in her twang if you listen carefully. Rosanne Cash and K.T. Oslin were untouchable as far as pure raw singing. Unfortunately, like so many talented 80's and early 90's female singers, they were both very undervalued by Nashville and radio stations across the US.
Very wrong. And that is a good thing. Johnny Cash was great, but no woman wants to sound like him. Lol
I was fours year old when this song was released. I was raised by my grandparents of the greatest generation. My family did not listen to country music. I vividly remember this on the radio as my grandfather was cruising through the radio stations while driving somewhere. We had a 79 orange Honda Civic with that dreaded black vinyl upholstery. I was a quiet, docile, well behaved kid. I didn't pipe up much. My skin was burning from the black vinyl seat in the mid winter California sun. I remember calling out from the back seat to "hey let me listen to this song" which was bold for me being kid raised to be seen and not heard. Definitely not "hey my skin is burning on this black vinyl". It was magical. This song is magical. Her voice, pitch and enunciation is magical. Still one of my absolute favorite songs.
those eyes they never change even today she still has those eyes and voice has gotten even better
She is a beautiful person. She and Pat Benatar always could give a death stare whenever they wanted!
Beautiful! No tattoos, wardrobe malfunctions, lingerie, or face jewelry. Just a CLASS ACT !

I remember being 19, working at a thrift shop when this song started playing on the radio and I couldn’t move... I just listened to that mesmerizing synth, those crushing lyrics, and that beautiful melody. I asked everyone in the room if they knew the song and no one did. So I wrote down the only lyrics I could remember from that haze “The girls say God I hope he comes back soon.” and I immediately looked it up when I got home. I replayed this song all night in my room, and couldn’t fathom that this song existed and I didn’t know it. One of my favorites.

When a song and a singer come together in perfect synch
And she wrote it , I had always thought her hubby , Rodney Crowell did , but wrong.
No one better cover this song, Rosanne can't be topped, she's perfect with this
Why is this woman not more celebrated? I never hear her name any more. That voice is IT. OMG!
The lyrics sound like something her dad would write. (Lower the octave in your mind and think of his way of describing things and story telling.) Daddy’s girl for sure. Boy I bet she had him wrapped around her little finger. That voice!
I can literally play this in my head! For some reason it's been there a lot lately. Every single line is killer--"you act like you were just born tonight, face down in a memory and feelin alright. Who does your past belong to today, Baby you don't say nothin when you're feelin this way" and "Don't bother callin to say you're leavin alone, cause there's a fool on every corner when you're tryin to get home". There's an interview where Rosanne talks of being sick of doing this song for years, I suppose that happens if you do it every night for a year. She also mentions there were pages and pages of additional lines & verses that didn't make it into the finished version. Rosanne, I'd love to hear the 7 minute version sometime if you could put it all together! Love ya!
And power to all your 4 wheels on the Bighorn trails off 93; Yes, Root, we pray for thee......
On hearing this after recording it in 1987, her voice became synonymous with intelligence of lyric, melody and harmony in Country. It was much aided by the release of Runaway Train the following year.
I love this song to this day. And she looks so much like her mom here! Beautiful!

I agree with you there. She sure has a sexy voice and a sexy figure too
This was just a great song that seemed to transcend all genres when it came out. I heard it all the time on pop/rock stations even though it was considered to be a country song
Her voice is clean as Ivory Soap. It washes over you.
In 1988 I met Rosanne. She is everything and a wonderful person as she can sing.
I am 39 years old. I had all but forgotten about Roseanne Cash. She was one of my mothers favorite artists and this song was turned up when it came on with her singing at the top of her lungs...Happy. My mother wound up changing and became the worst human being I know and because of this we have been estranged for almost 20 years.
A few nights ago I was flipping through the channels, looking for something to watch before bed, and I stopped on Austin City Limits. It was the 2017 ACL Hall of Fame Concert/Ceremony and Roseanne Cash was being inducted. I didn't give it much thought until I saw that Neko Case would be performing, so I stayed tuned. The first song they played held no meaning for me, but then the first few notes of "Seven Year Ache" were played and I was instantly transported to the backseat of that 1985 station wagon with the happy version of my Mother in tow. I love these moments as most of the time I agonize over her. It is like she has passed, honestly, yet she is still out there... Whatevs
Ironic, because I woke up with this song stuck in my head this morning (and haven't heard it, in like 20yrs!?!)...Similar story, but mines about my estranged sister...Mercy & Forgiveness is a powerful thing, but extremely hard to attain, especially when dealing with hardened hearts...I'm work'n on it, just wished she was!
Whatever your mom did, move on from it (I know, easy to say from where Im at). Drop her a line, maybe a handwritten note. Tell her you heard this song and the good times with her came flooding back. Don't ask for reconcilement. Leave that up to her. Just put the thought into her head, maybe something good can come from this. if you never hear from her, you haven't lost anything.
I remember this song from my childhood as well as many others. Sadly, in 1999 at only 15 years old i came home from school and found my mother passed away. I had a good caring loving mother and my heart has been broken for almost 20 years. I would give anything to see my Momma again and tell her I love her and just hug her one more time. Idk what your mom did but let me tell you, its a lonely world without her. I will never say anything bad about my Momma and yes, I grew up rough, poor and disciplined. But I am thankful for the woman I am today. I would never judge my Mother simply because I didn't live in her time, or know what she went through, or how hard it was raising me along with 2 brothers 5 sisters and 1 of which was bed ridden. My momma is my angel. I love you Momma.
Our mothers had it hard, mental illness but no good meds, lots of side effects. The death of the dream of happily ever after, divorce soared in the mid 80's. My mom lost her shit after hers. Wss never the same. Pray for her! We all have demons!
Roseanne Cash wrote this song. Pure genius. "You act like you were just born tonight face down in a memory but feelin' all right." So perfect. I hope she made a million bucks off it.
I remember cranking this tune on the factory philco stereo in my 74 chevy silverado pick up driving through town on a Friday night...large and in charge and looking for some fun...
I think you meant Delco, Philco would have been a ford product.
This song is exquisite example of superb songwriting!
