I have 12 years of sobriety from alcohol. Guys, if you drink and want to quit, please, please, PLEASE, don't try to sober up without medical supervision. IT CAN LITERALLY KILL YOU. I wish she would've said this in the video. There is no shame in seeking help!

@@carlylifting thank you! I just get scared that someone will see this and try to quit on their own. Thank you for sharing your story! I think sobriety stories are so powerful in proving to current sufferers that there is life after alcohol. I remember that being my biggest fear. I simply couldn't fathom life without alcohol. Now here I am. It's not only doable, but it's amazing!

@@butterpecanrican_ Of course! I totally agree. And yes, that was one of my biggest fears as well! I felt like I'd be missing out on so much... Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate you! I'm coming up on 5 years very soon... I'm thinking about doing a 5 years sober video! 🥰 XO

I thank you so much for your story. I relate. I'm Day 4 sober and I finally joined AA. The last 3 years, I would go months at a time without drinking, then think I could have one glass of wine. It almost always turned into a binge. Followed my weeks or months of sobriety again. Each binge gets uglier. My husband is an alcoholic as well. Drinks 7 days a week. So I believe AA is going to help me stay straight, and support me...while I live with an alcoholic.
    You've given me inspiration.

I came across your video after starting my journey to sobriety (again). Listening to your story it felt as if you were talking about my life, so many of the things you said I can relate too on so many levels. When I drink and blackout I turn into a totally different, mean, disgusting mess of a person. I went to rehab, was sober for a few weeks going to the gym and eating clean, then started going to the gym wasted.. just an endless vicious cycle and now I’m back at the beginning starting fresh. The longest I went sober in the last 7-8 years was 9 months while I was pregnant with my son. This is the first time I genuinely feel excited to be sober and listening to your story was very encouraging. ❤️ Keep it up girl! 💪🏼

I know this video is 2 years old.. but I truly needed this video. I'm 26 and my boyfriend and I have been drinking everyday for 7 years. I woke up this morning just feeling so sad and fed up! I can't keep living this way. I want to feel how you feel. I have kids as well and I want to be the best mom I can be for them and I know I haven't been that. I wake up every morning with my hands shaking to. It's horrible. It makes me want to keep going to alcohol to make it stop...it's embarrassing. I believe God has so much more for me than this. I don't even know who I am anymore. I used to love singing and being with family. Right now I'm so closed off. Please send a prayer for Me if you have time. Today I have throwing out the beer. We will see how this goes. God bless ❤😥

Sobriety is such a huge relief… you can finally let go of all of the hurt, frustration and embarrassment. Take it once day at a time. Wow! So 1 year later, I am watching this video while drinking wine. I keep pretending that I am going to quit drinking. What's worse is that I was sober for 3 years up until just over 6 years ago. I'm not "as bad" as I once was. Instead of drinking daily, I binge drink. I can do days, weeks, or over a month without drinking. Then, I start all over again. I am 60 pounds overweight and extremely unhappy with myself. Why am I here, on your channel? Because I typed in "my journey of getting sober" and your video showed up. There are so many things that you said that really struck home with me. I didn't go to AA before. I have been to AA in the past with an ex, and I am not a fan. However, maybe this time, I will go for a little bit. Idk. The one thing I do know is that if you can do it I can do it! And kudos to you staying sober while your husband was still drinking. My husband doesn't drink, so I am thankful for that. But I don't know how the heck you did it?!?!?! Seriously, kudos to you. I may reach out to you on IG, like you offered. I don't know. I don't want to dump my problems on you. Regardless, thank you for sharing your story.

In 2016 I realized the same. After 2 years in the corps I had turned to drinking every chance I had. My husband(also a marine) would drink a whole bottle of jack a night and that was the norm, I drink at least a bottle of wine or a 6 pack before I felt anything. I turned to him and said we need to stop. We did for over a month and we both drank again but never like before. And when ever I say I need a drink I dont drink because I know I will spiral again. When Jonny hits his 2 year mark he should do a video with you and bring in how the military stress makes any addiction worse (if that was the case, it was mine) it might help a lot of service members. Sending all the good vibes so proud of you and him

It’s such a tricky situation… You definitely can’t force someone to quit if they aren’t ready but I will say that I got to the point where I was ready to leave and my husband got sober just in time. It’s absolutely possible! Stay strong. 💕 I’m rooting for you!

Just something I want to point out, when you say that you are an addictive personality you are confirming this belief and if you keep doing this you will eventually pick up other harmful things do this instead say “that I drank before but I do not today” will subconsciously programme u to not see ur self as someone who was or has an addictive personality because u don’t know if that’s the reality as it’s only as real as u allow it to be hope this makes sense

You're already halfway there knowing you need to make a change and feeling ready to do so. Have you ever been to an AA meeting? They can be so helpful... You don't even need to talk, you can just sit and listen to other people's stories. They helped me a lot in early sobriety... Also keep watching sobriety content on TH-cam, that helped me a bunch as well... You can do this! I promise. If I could do it anyone can do it. I'm rooting for you!
