    I'm from Bristol and a go to huddesfield often to visit my brother. To be honest it's more multicultural and the tap water is so soft and cleaner to drink.
    I don't see anything wrong with the city.
    It's got a good university aswell.
    It's no way as bad as people say, not at all.
    I feel people like to divide the North and the south.

    15:00 Huddersfield has a strong Punjabi community, both muslim and Sikh. In Bradford its Kashmiri muslims mainly.
    There are several Mosques and Gurdwaras in Huddersfield.
    There is a war monument in Greenhead park to honour the contribution of the Punjab regiment in WW2.
    There is also a strong Irish community in Huddersfield as evident by several catholic schools/churches as well as St.Patrick themed social clubs etc.

    I am born and bred in Huddersfield and love my hometown, by myself and most other people have seen a once-thriving busy town centre decimated for various reasons, one being online shopping, and another is Kirklees council that seem to want to stop it being a place people want to come and shop in decent shops. I live half a mile from the town centre and very rarely go into the centre because there are no shops for me. Get out of the town centre and we have some gorgeous places and many wealthy places too. My guess is it is just like many towns and some cities today. We sadly now have a town centre full of crappy pound shops, Turkish barbers, nail bars and takeaway places, and the council seem to love it along with their war on cars and an ability to easily park in the town centre. It is not a deprived place, 5 minutes from those residential streets you were cycling around is an area where most of the houses will be a million pounds plus each. There is a supercar showroom just off the camera where you drop past near the main church. You said Birkby was a nice-looking area, to be honest, that is considered a not-so-attractive place by locals.

    Huddersfield is amazing. It’s the perfect mix of beautiful countryside, and the town. It has John Smith’s stadium and a great multicultural community with an interesting history
    It also has great education with Greenhead College being 2nd best in the UK iirc and a pretty good uni. It’s also a great location surrounded by Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Bradford
    Economy is a bit dead atm but they’re revamping the high street, so hopefully with the right funding it can be even better!
    Nobody really lives in the town centre, but if you look at Marsden or the Longwood reservoirs it’s such a beautiful place, I’d recommend revisiting and cycling there!

You can can drop down to Birkby, Lindley, Golcar, Slaithwaite etc. All have amazing Yorkshire stone buildings, good pubs and local stores. I wouldn't ever want to move back but it has a lot of great architecture if you care to look above the 'bike' level. The train station, the Old George Hotel, Town Hall etc etc. I just hate the fact that even in the most picturesque villages in the UK they allow these shitty Neon signed shops. As somebody said, Kirklees couldn't give a damn. Ah well, it was still good to see how the place looks now. It hasn't changed much.

We've never had race riots or any significant troubles linked to race. It's nicknamed The Two Tone City due to being the birthplace of Two Tone music. The Selector n The Specials. Now Coventry has people form all over Eastern Europe and Africa which means there's a few decent food shops selling really interesting produce. The families that moved into my area between 2000-2011 were all lovely n integrated well into the community. It's much the same here in Hudds now. My street is probably 60% white British n the other 40% is made up of other nationalities. My better half is half Hungarian so there's that too. Migration is unstoppable. It's happening and people need to embrace it. I feel for those who resent and resist it. It must be horrible being afraid of differences. 😔

    Do you think Bradford is better than Huddersfield mate? Great video!

    • @CycleWithJay
      @CycleWithJay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s hard to compare because Bradford is a city and Huddersfield is a town. I think the city centre in Bradford is way better than the Huddersfield town centre. I reckon there are some really nice suburban places to live in Bradford. So I would go with Bradford 👍

    • @MCBCharlieGaming
      @MCBCharlieGaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I have to drive through Bradford a lot and it’s got good and bad parts but it is not as bad as people say it is.

    • @greyguy.960

      Worse. Much worse crime per capita bad areas etc. At least in Huddersfield the majority is countryside

    • @greyguy.960
      @greyguy.960 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Bradford is the worse. Don't buy a house there unless your little cars go missing and gangs of burglars from the inner city areas.
      Plus it's the worse driving area I have lived in just last year two cars had hit me. One had no licence and the other person driving on his cousin's licence both no insurance. It's very common here .
