The greatest part of the first book is the fact that Sadako wasn't killed just because of her psychic powers by her abuser, but because her abuser found out during the abuse that she was actually a hermaphrodite and he killed her because he felt nauseated. It's the one detail that the books repeat quite a bit but every other media leaves out, for some reason.
Okay, so I recently watched a video that briefly went over this game so I spent the entire opening wondering how they woulda failed to mention that the main character’s name is egg. Thanks, dude.
@@Shenaldrac It should be spelled with two m's as it's supposed to be French. Infogrames is a portmanteau of "informatique" and "programmes". Basically translates into "compugrams" or "computer programs".
Honestly, i kind of liked the sort of mystery solving and exploratory gameplay in the loop ver of the CDC. Even once you realize the truth, you long to be back in the loop CDC. Truly a wonderful job of marrying the protagonist's and the player's desires. /talking out my ass
I thought the first cutscene you shared early in the video felt...off, and I love that you went back into it during the sight/sound section and really broke down just how awful it is. This game seems like some absolute bizarro nightmare fuel that I can't look away from, really appreciate you sharing this one, especially since I enjoyed Ringu a lot and seeing this monstrosity of a game really made me appreciate the artistry of that first film. Anyways, love your content Grimmy, it's brought me a lot of joy and killed a lot of hours of time for me and even inspired me to consider doing my own g*mer video at some point. The reveal that the *splat* sound from combat was actually part of the game really got me. Truly, this is what they mean when they say "cinema". Excellent video as always!
I've read the Ring novels and I actually really love them and how strange they are, even if Loop comes out of nowhere...but maybe the weirdest part of this game for me is that Loop, if I remember correctly, establishes that you can't just magically appear in the computer program, the MC is a computer program based on a real person who had to be born as a child in the program and grow to adulthood (the program moves faster than real time) and then to communicate properly I think he had to be reborn to the real world through some convoluted means too? The idea of just...logging into the game to switch worlds really circumvents one of the central problems of the novel. Also, the entire world does have cancer in Loop but that's because everything has the ring virus and it doesn't turn you into a weird demon or whatever. This game took the fun parts of the convoluted science fiction and dumbed them down to being unrecognizable. I'm not sure who this game is intended for, since fans of the books would be confused by retcons and fans of the movies haven't even experienced half the stuff in it...
Holy sh- the twist here was _amazing!_ SO UNEXPECTED. I genuinely didn't see it coming! I mean, the fact that you _weren't_ adding in those splat sound fx and they were actually from the game was legitimately mind-blowing! I absolutely love your long form videos, it's exactly what I like. However, if I could give one piece of advice, it's that you put the story at the end as it's the best part of your videos. Getting through controls and such and then getting to sit through your interpretation of the game and humor therein is awesome. As it stands, the best part of your videos are out of the way half way through!
I'm not sure if this is meant to be part of the game's plot but please note that in the books, Sadako originally came from the VIRTUAL world. Assuming the same thing happened here that would mean that Meg was inside the virtual world and visiting another virtual world inside the virtual world in order to get the vaccine to unbreak the "outer" virtual world. Though the virus did eventually escape into real life in the books as well.
I was expecting this wasn't at all related to the once-popular Ring series, but I did not anticipate that not only was it related, but the original source material was so... absurd. Not in a bad way (maybe, idk), just... very different from what you'd expect. Most people just want spoopy ghosts and spirits, not medical dramas with sci-fi elements or whatever.

I come here when I need a break from Seth and Uber's hyper energy to just chill with you man, and you do a damn good job at making me feel comfortable.
Awesome upload from my favorite Goth Gamer ASMR streamer. You have the uncanny ability to make an unknown shovelware game sound interesting.
23:08 is probably one of the funniest things on the internet, lmao "UNHAND ME!"
Thanks to SuperGreatFriend, I could hear the music before I clicked on the video. The soundtrack is burnt into my brain.
this is a fantastic vid my dude, thanks so much. I'm really curious what the thing was you said you re-encoded/re-uploaded for?
Calling her eeg is just admitting she’s hot enough to have tboy swag
I massively recommend the Ring books. They go insane, and not in the ways you think they would. They really fuck with you.
Bro I just came across your channel recently but there's so many games from my childhood that you cover thank you for the walk down memory lane ❤️
34:37 Wait I just realized, Grim actually made it look like the mic’s recording meter was picking up the phone call. Holy shit what a small detail
How lucky Robert died. Egg wouldn't have had an office or laptop at her new job otherwise.
There's so much to unpack here, and the voice over really emphasizes it. Really like how the sound of a windy void is inexplicably in the background.
Here's to 2022!, *clinks glass of blue raspberry flavored gamer soda water* 🍻
Man im so happy this channel exists, I can always binge the twin peaks games when im at a low point in life.
I actually do work for the CDC and I can confirm that I will also die sitting at my computer.
This was one of the last reviews Spoony ever did and I remember it being incomprehensible.
31:30 what is this? I relate so hard to this fragment that I need to watch the full thing
I’m embarrassed to say the egg - meg dilemma cracked me up repeatedly
The one thing that made me angry: "it sounds like they took the cleaning crew of their building and made them do the voice acting" why specify the cleaning crew? do you think the cleaning crew would be worse voice actors than the Devs? classest so and so, I want to find whoever wrote that and thow an angry chicken at them.
I'm going to say that to people when they call/talk when I'm on the computer.
"I'm sorry, I'm on the computer. Are you an E-mail ?"
i’m so glad i found your channel dude. your videos just keep getting better even when i am sure they cannot, thanks dingus love ya
LCD Soundsystem got a sensible chuckle out of me.
Honestly we need more games where the protagonist literally does not comprehend the simple events of the plot and ends the game just as clueless as they began. More Egg!
Grim ol' Good Beard always there to brighten my day 😌
Holy shit that intro. I love it and almost every video you made, Grim. Thank you for putting out high effort content.
I watched a friend of mine stream this game their suffering was beautiful
He's back! Happy New Year. I hope Holiday Man left you some nice objects under your solstice bush.
one for each day of the year i've been waiting for the newest upload!
but fr, this is stupendous content, and it's gotta be some kind of divine miracle that this stuff is free for anyone and everyone to view.
Favorite dine in place & a new grim beard video. Today's a good day
Prior to your addressing that splat sound, It slowly dawned on me that you didn't add it.. and then you confirmed it. Insane.
2022 didn't officially start for Goth Gamerz till we got our dose of Grim Beard.
Hello, I Meg
btw. the sound editing on that scene of the game was majestic
"its like the video game equivalent of the st. anger snare"
*plays st. anger snare*
the "it's thinking" part of the anxiety dreamcast commercial was something i would quote when my or friends system was loudly loading lol
I was expecting this wasn't at all related to the once-popular Ring series, but I did not anticipate that not only was it related, but the original source material was so... absurd. Not in a bad way (maybe, idk), just... very different from what you'd expect.
Most people just want spoopy ghosts and spirits, not medical dramas with sci-fi elements or whatever.
love when he says itss your boyyyyy
RIP to the Fork Knife Experience. 😥
i really enjoyed this video but i could really do without the gimmicky static jumpcuts. i dont do well with surprise noises lol.
16:19 this scene literally made me want to play the game.
Until you pointed it out I never realized how much I love and miss the voice acting from that era
12:49 she didn’t even wipe 🫠
I would PAY for a version of this game where Grim and his friends voice all the dialogue
great job! i love all the work you put into showing off these weird and interesting games
10:46 the delivery for this part is fantastic “oops! I clicked it!” 😂
