It's a Criminal offence what the BBC did with this show not bringing it back when they did the Three shows and picked a new series of porridge which was absolutely atrocious. GNS Would still be on now if they picked it up for a new series soany funny scenarios that could have been.
Watched as a child. Then again with an adult mind when someone uploaded all the episodes to TH-cam 2018 (before they were taken off). Brilliant show. Love when the kid from the future appears and when Gary goes further back to the 1800's. Ron Wheatcroft was hilarious 🤣
@@ElChipsFiestaBuffet She was back in the 1800s in one episode where Gary went back further in time than the 1940s accidentally and the second actress who played Yvonne was in the pub as a supposed ancestor of Yvonne one presumes.
I bought the entire series boxset last year and binge watched it throughout June, such a truly great series and a huge shame that they couldn't get a new season going, although Many Happy Returns was amazing to watch and possibly not a bad way to end it all because it leaves more questions than answers.
@@TDK-ty4clGood luck over the pond now! You did great work on this and others in the 90's (I was doing TV studies at College before I went into the army) and remember fondly Get Back which was around the same time! My daughter has been doing acting lessons since she was 3 and now has my "TV Bug"....
@@AnotherSale Thank you for your kind comments. I had a blast directing, especially Sweetheart. Most of the cast members remain friends to this day. If your daughter has a passion for acting, I hope she follows her dream and gets a lucky break.
@Charles Duvall Vic is such a nice guy. He and Nic are good friends, as are their wives, Jules and Lucy. I stay in touch with Nic, Vic, Emma and Chris from Sweetheart. Just a great cast.
@@JB-ly3eo yes I've been watching Goodnight sweetheart on Freeview ch.65 lucky I did I found this channel just by mistake as it's not listed in TV Choice magazine 🎉
Absolutely love this watched every episode more than once I especially love the 2016 one were Gary goes back after 17 years never laughed so much I hope they make more soon ❤️
This series is so well written. In one sense it is a study in the change in gender politics. Gary's contemporary partner is weak and selfish and constantly belittles him. Whereas Phoebe admires and respects him. But she is no shrinking violet. She is a pillar of strength as bombs rain from the sky. I would go back to the 1940s to be with Phoebe. The actress in the early series is gorgeous.
Because in 1940 Gary’s is a wealthy, well travelled internationally renowned song writer who plies Phoebe with exotic gifts and expensive nights out. In 1994 he’s a spineless, dead beat unemployed TV repair man with no money, savings or charisma whatsoever. The character Gary is a weasel of a man.
only other episode i'd include is the one where Phoebe comes to the future and Gary has to hide her in his shop. "Ok Commander, do you need me to put my blindfold back on?"
Gary Sparrow 1940s & 1990s NEVER age BUT Born in 1950s or 60s Yvonne wife of 1990s Garys Child of 1990s : age Toddler Phoebe wife of 1940s : age 70+ in 1990s Garys Child of 1940s : age 50 + in 1990s
I agree @theculuredthug6609. i have watched porridge and it is S*it but Goodnight sweetheart is miles better than that. I would rate Porridge -1,000,000 and Goodnight sweetheart 1,000,000,000. I am 15 years old and i was bought up on 80s, 70s, 60s and 50s music but when i watched GNSH my life changed for the better, i have not stopped watching it since.
I remember watching this as a kid and then again recently. Such a great idea. But they just never hit the mark with it. It had so much potential but it was pretty lame they way Gary totally wasted time travel

I don’t think they should have bought it back. It was good back in the day. I thought the show had run its course.
Just watched every episode of this great show for the third time. Thanks
Best show ever, favourite bit was when he put the bar hatch down before he leaned on it, then gave a little nod to the camera 😂😂
Perfect 👌🏼 agree with that
Our homage to the famous 'Fools' episode. It wasn't scripted. Nick and I added it at rehearsals. 🙂

It's still showing now!!!!
Love Jack the ripper episode.😅
I love Ron 😂❤
Just finished watching goodnight sweetheart, such a brilliant show
thanks for watching it means a lot to me it is a classic series
Love it! Especially the one in the bank with Capt. Mainwairing .BRILIANT!
The one where Ron went back was a good one ,just for the fact id been waiting for it to happen for so long.
I always wanted Yvonne to go back
Yeah they never explained why he kept missing the portal for so long if he was following Gary the exact same way.

Happy memories directing on this series. Was it really over 20 years ago? Feels like yesterday. Thanks for posting.
Are you still directing terry?
@@AnotherSale No. I live in the US now. I have a literary agent and I've started writing comedy-drama screenplays aimed at Hallmark and Lifetime.

That is part of the reason I really did enjoy this show.
Now I would love to go back to the 1990’s ❤

I seriously doubt it, they did a musical of it but have no plans to do a regular TV series again.

Pure British classic
Brilliant series
It would be good we all could go back in ten
There were so many good eps...
Wish they did an updated version where the ones from the 40s went into 2020s. Would be amusing
12:24 Did but had to wait 17 years
All episodes except the 2016 one are on itv x ,new one is on TH-cam
Mines a double doesn’t tend to land well with a lot of fans, where are a number here are really good and liked in the social media fan groups.
I love that episode, my favourite part is when they see the “ever so slightly Gay Garry” and he says there’s nothing ever so slightly about him 😂😂👌🏼
