    Very good straightforward video.
    Wd40 also works as glue removal.

    Love this. I hate most of the stickers they put on bikes! Super impressed he turned on that hairdryer and his cat still came over towards it though. 😂

      My cats run from the heat gun. Factory decal glue residue is a pain. Goo-Gone works sometimes. Sand blasting never fails, but it's rough on the paint.

    Isopropyl alcohol works well for the glue removal too. I had some laying around from work on computers

      Yes alcohol will work for some left over glues but Goo Gone will work for more types of unpredicable goo and grease.

    Zippo lighter fluid works best imo. Just use a plastic scraper to lift a corner of the decal/sticker and put a few drops under and work the sticker off with the scraper, gently. Then just put some of the fluid on a rag and wipe away the adhesive residue. Then wash the area with soapy water and rinse.

    Really useful video! diluted degreaser in hot water also works for the sticky thingy :)

    Thanks for the tip, it came out perfect.
    Instead of goo gone you can just use (cooking) oil. Seed oils are usually cheaper.
    First pour a generous amount on newspapers/paper towel and rub it vigorously, both sideways and in circles.
    Then add more oil and use a rag, microfiber cloth or similar.
    I would also use a plastic and/or metal scraper to remove both the stickers, and the residual adhesive (after heating it up some more).

      Cool, will try regular oil next time on sticky stuff

    Can you apply new decals after this method?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, but the frame has to be cleaned with mild detergent or alcohol to remove any remaining goo gone which is in itself an oily film. But titanium frames are not very good at retaining stickers or decals due to the texture of the non-polished surface.

    Could I do this on an e-bike battery?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can peel the sticker off and use goo-gone to clean the residues, but I wouldn't try heating the battery up using a heat gun or blow-dryer as they may overheat and catch fire.

    Can you do this in carbon frame?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, the principle is the same, carbon/titanium/steel/alumiinum. Some heat and Goo Gone is all you need

    What about aluminum frames?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Should be similar, they won't crack under dryer heat, and you can use goo-gone, as I have done on my aluminum framed bikes.

    I used water to take it off it worked just as well

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If the decal is baked on and left adhesive on the frame, water alone won’t work but glad your situation is different

    Most Decals are so distasteful. Pegot, Fuji have tasteful understated Decals. I have a new, used Trek. The Bikecycle is excellent, the garrish Decals are nasty. TY for removal Tips.

    wouldn't this peel the paint?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On titanium bikes, no, usually there is no paint or coating on titanium bikes, because paint don't stick well on the surface of titanium. On a normal aluminum or carbon bike, as long as the sticker is above the surface of the clearcoat, you can probably peel it off using this method, but most modern day bike has graphics under the clearcoat so this won't work. But it will still work for warning labels etc.
