You know what I just realized? All three of the Wayfinder keyblade wielders (as I like to call them) have been boss in some way, shape, or form. In KH2FM it's Terra's Lingering Will, in DDD it's Armored Ventus Nightmare, and in 0.2 it's Phantom Aqua.

He means poorly designed, MF was just a a cartwheel spam and both julius and Mf hardly staggered so it was hard to know when to finish a combo and such , and you use always ended using cheap tactics like thunder surge or Balloonga to beat them. basically armored Terra tand Phantom Aqua require careful preparation to analyzing thier patterns and a certain skill. The end result is way more rewarding
Yes, Mysterious Figure and Julius were both very poorly designed. All you needed to do for Mysterious Figure was spam thunder surge and spam Aqua or Ven's dodge roll and you'd basically be untouchable. Julius was the same situation. Spam dodge roll and use the overpowered balloonra and you'd win the fight so easily. It's great to see Osaka design a boss like Phantom Aqua after those 2 disasters of secret bosses.
Oh man, I've finally trained myself to jump after blocking instead of using Counter Blast, and now I finally get to the point where I need to use Counter Blast, and I jump instead!
There is nothing more satisfying than beating the boss without a guide, then watching the guide and seeing how many things you did the same and how many things you did differently that were still successful. And how many things you failed horribly on when there was a simple solution.
It's been 2 years since the game came out, but this is me exactly last night at 3am lmao! Had to come back and finish the Zodiac Aqua at least once before the real Aqua next week lol
Absent Silhouette are optionnal but they aren't superbosses as with the exception of maybe Larxene and Vexen they appear exactly at the right moment when you should be able to take them on, 2FM so have 15 superbosses (16 if you count the fact that Data Xemnas is 2 fight in a row).
So far it seems like the absolute worst part of this boss is not her attacks or anything like that but that you just can't keep your sight on her. It seems like you have to re-lock on to her every 3 seconds because she breaks your lock on every 2 seconds.

thank you so much for the guide after several attempts i finally got that one run where i could read the pattern and punish when i had the chance and i also did the extra flair and style punishing with the spellweaver style change i did this on my Critical run at level 60

yep, that's one of my biggest issues with this pain in the ass boss, practically no room for error at *all* and since she teleports so much it's near impossible to keep a lock on her and see what she is doing. Not helping that is how the game screws you over in regards to items-there is an unmentioned 2 item per battle limit that can royally f*** you over if you try to heal with an item because your magic is recharging and the boss keeps spamming attacks. Add to that how you literally cannot change any items, abilities or actual equipment and you're stuck with what they game gives you and it all adds to an absolutely miserable experience-even on beginner she is such a pain in the ass it is stupid. I initially was trying to do the "do a spellweaver finisher on her" objective so I don't have to try and do it during the shorter story version of the fight, but holy s*** at this point I just want *past* her so I can move on. She isn't quite at the level of rage inducing that Mysterious Figure vs Terra was in BBS, but she''s right up there with Sora Vs Julius right under MF for me. It doesn't help at all that all these videos showing them doing stuff like spellweaver+firaga and other combos are almost entirely luck based since you can only actually attack her after she does one of those two basic combo moves that you are actually allowed to block, instead of her glowing red unblockable attacks that she always spams for me and delays long enough for any charge for spellweaver to die out because it took too long for the next opening to appear.
"Best design" ... Yeah, right. I sincerely hope you are being ironic because those superbosses in all KH games are anything but well designed. All of them are straight up retarded. I love KH but I hate to have to fight these bosses for 100% completion.
Well, the data battles in the dlc don't fall short either. Forget about using potions in the second or third phase of the bosses, because you'll have to block/dodge/ultra instinct the way out of four of the bosses attacks at the same time.
Always hated Forced-Defensive fights, where the boss is only open at certain times and at all other times they're either invulnerable or guaranteed to avoid damage. I guess they're well designed from a raw technical standpoint, but they are dull to actually play.
This particular boss fight about sent me into near unending rage prior to watching this video. Unless to have really good reaction time, and know her attack patterns well, you are always screwed. It angered me so much that after break after break i took. When i got back in the fight i somehow got just as angry as when i left the room to take a break. My hands were shaking. I was on standard mode difficulty for crying out loud! She shouldn't have been so hard that it felt like the difficulty itself went from standard straight to proud in .2 seconds no pun intended.
For me the problem was the reprisals when blocking attacks. I don't know how you're supposed to figure out you have to jump and attack after your block instead of doing the regular counter, or that you are able to do that in the first place.
This guide was a godsend. I finally beat her at around two this morning, at Level 72. I noticed, though, that sometimes, when you baited her bait three times, she didn't always leave herself vulnerable. Sometimes she just disappeared entirely after the second one and then retaliated immediately into her one, two, three combo. Or she sometimes did that on the third time you baited her bait. And I found the most difficult part to be her Spellweaver Finish. Had to re-watch that section several times in this video. She usually screwed me up with her Blizzaga after her Spellweaver Finish. On a few occasions, I could survive that. And then in her third phase when she did that scream combo thing, she got me in the air. I survived that by pure luck. But thanks, again, for this very helpful guide. 😃
Okay two things 1 before the fight with phantom aqua begins make sure you still have spell weaver on so that you can get a chance to attract. 2 whenever the phantom aqua walks slowly to bate use shocklock because that would attempt to do some damage and than combo her twice at least .

Ya know, I think Canonically Aqua metaphorically fought the Final Phantom Aqua in the Post-Game, and ended up losing. Which is why she's Anti-Aqua in KH3. It all makes sense to me.
One thing I did that worked pretty well is: If she was available for attack, I got in a couple of hits (not enough to finish the combo, but it might work after one combo) and, if Spellweaver was already available or was going to be available, I used it. If you use Spellweaver like that, it knocks her back and leaves her open for three full combo, so you get in a couple of free hits. I did that in the final stage, and she didn't even get to move before I killed her.
I can get her down to 1 or 2 bars Dx Then her revenge value or Blizzaga spell kills me. Mainly because I have to heal during the revenge and don't have magic for thundaga Dx Beat Lingering Will but can't beat Phantom Aqua...this is sad
If you just not use a finisher while in spellweaver style you can infinitely attack her until you trigger the situation command to finish spellweaver for an optimal damage output with minimal mp consumption
I don't think I've seen anyone mention this, so I'm not sure if you know this, but the reason the blizzaga is so tough is because she does her normal attacks during it. It's not just random orange attacks, it's just hard to realize because you know, you're focused on the GIANT SPIKY ICE BALLS TRYING TO IMPALE YOU!!!!!! I realized this because one time I successfully made it out alive of that sequence, but then she was doing the orange attacks and I thought I had more time before she did the 3 attacks, but she was further in the sequence than I anticipated, so I realized that the attacks she was doing during the Blizzaga was also that attack. Just thought I'd say it because you didn't explicitly state that she can do any attack simultaneously with this, that's the true reason it's so hard to deal with.
Yes, that's correct. It's considered random because there is no way to know whether she'll choose to do orange or her normals, so if you get unlucky and get orange it's very hard to survive.
Soraalam1 Ahh, okay, thanks for clearing that up. Although theoretically if you were a super amazing robot with amazing reaction and processing you could dodge/block both but for casuals it probably is better to do this. (Not that I'm have these super amazing skills anyway, after taking a whole day to beat the Demon Wave on CM (which I did without a guide AND on the pre-patched version of the game since I'm having ...account issues, I was very proud) I still decided to start another playthrough of Proud rather than even try on CM, (and I STILL had to grind) and it still took multiple tries. I just thought it would be good to note since I often had to deal with this attack because I had to heal myself so often so I usually didn't have mp)
I must appreciate the level of detail the producers put into the boss, and the skill (or good timing) necessary to beat her, but if they have any secret bosses like this in a game, I believe they should be purely optional. Sure, reward players, but make it something cosmetic or not OP. It has to be a good enough award to make it worth the fight, but it can’t be like some ultimate weapon because it would make more casual players feel left out. I’ve faced Zodiac Phantom Aqua a few times (once earlier today) and got thoroughly wrecked; I detected a pattern of sorts but it’s mostly my bad memory and intense impulsiveness that caused the methods to fail. I’ll have to invite over a friend who’s good at following patterns to fight hard bosses so we can “tag team” her.
It's a good thing I found this video.... Not gonna lie, I was raging quite a bit with this boss. While I still haven't beaten her as of yet. I think if I watch this video enough, and practice it. I can finally beat her. Also.... I feel quite a bit of shame. Since I'm only playing on Standard.... I've never been brave enough to try a harder difficulty with these games. Since standard's optional bosses kick my ass enough as is.
I'm still trying to beat her in critical mode, following all the partern you give me but my fingers are not fast enough to block all of her attack ; - ; not to mention that I kept cartwheeling all the time. But thank you for this boss buster, It helped me a lot
I like how when _you_ do it, it looks so freaking easy but when _I_ do it I don't last 20 seconds x) Anyway, even though I haven't defeated her yet, this guide at least helped me complete the "3rd Phantom Aqua without damage" objective so thank you anyway ! ^^

7:56 i have a better, and to me, more safer option than jumping. on the second block, you should use her counter blast so you'll be invincible while being shot at and you should do the same thing with with the second wave of attacks, and after that she'll already be in her finisher which is easy to block as well.
This makes me think... what does everybody want for a new secret boss in KH3? Personally, I'd like one or more of the Dandelions to be a secret boss, what about you guys?
Tropic Hawk Master of Masters, Luxu, one of the Dandelions, or some form of the main antagonist for the next saga. Of course Sephiroth should be a secret boss once again so that he'll have been fightable in all the main-numbered KH games (meaning KH1, KH2, and KH3).

Those I'm totally on board for. 110% It would be really cool to have a sneak preview of the next main antagonist too. I'm all for it. Sephiroth?! Of course! He has to be there! Although... hopefully more powerful than he was in KH2. Perhaps an easier first fight followed up with his ultimate form...?
Well of course the Master of Masters would be holding back quite a bit of his true power. I feel like this iteration of Sephiroth will either be the strongest one so far, or stronger than KH2 but weaker than KH1 (I consider KH1 Sephiroth harder than KH2 Sephiroth).
AsbelLhant100 I just don't see a reason for the Master of Masters to hold back his powers at that point. Nomura would be able to find a way to make it happen though. Of course KH1 Sephie is harder than his KH2 iteration. That version wasn't that big of a challenge. For a superboss anyway. It's clear that Sora's grown more powerful than he. That's why I feel that we'll need to see his last form in KH3 in order for his battle difficulty to make sense.
I can't imagine what was going through Aqua's head when she saw the Zodiac boss, then again she must have felt the same way when Sora did on hook's ship when saw his shadow version of himself and he had to fight him in the first game man must be weird. If that happen to me I'll be like I may have to fight you but you're one good looking person. Come to think of it I wonder if that was the case when this happened to the two of them another weird case for Sora is when he literally had to fight Roxas and found out Roxas was another version of himself like during the whole fight I had to tell myself don't make the pain of Sora stop talking to yourself or stop hitting yourself cuz he was fighting Roxas and talking to him during the fight
I'm trying to dodge roll from her orange Attacks, but every time I attempt to she comes from a different angle and reads the direction I roll to. How do I get past this?
when i fought phantom aqua in this game, i only did one full combo and let her get away because i was sure she can use the orange attack. also i only attacked her when she walks slowly; i just run around and/or jump to dodge without pressing square if she does anything else
Was trying to get that last trophy, and I'm so frustrated now. I came here looking for tips, but besides the "Thundaga to cancel her Blizzaja" tip, it seems I was doing everything pretty perfectly. With her stupid speed though, a mistake is going to be inevitable. When I made said inevitable mistake and got obliterated to 1 HP, I couldn't heal. I had MP. The game just wouldn't let me cast Curaga OR even use my items. They were all grayed out. Any idea what that was about? Cause I can't find any mention of this boss having a "heal block" technique. (Doubt I'll go back at this point. She was at half a health bar left and I feel so cheated that I'm just in full rage-quit mode now.)

5:00 not sure if it's been patched. But everytime I bait her first attack, she doesn't do 2 more walking sequences. She usually goes into another attack.
I know Im a few years late but I finally beat her using these exact strategies :) now i just need to beat regular phantom aqua no damage and I'll have my 100%
I hate myself so I did this on critical. On this difficulty you don't have second chance or combo master from what I've seen. Once more still works though. Ironically got the queen of the ice rink objective on this boss also.
This helped kind of just got to get myself better for the reactions but I forgot how beastly some of the secret bosses can be. doesn't help that it seems my mp just is constantly gone but this helped beat her eventually thank you.

Critical Mode it's too much for me. I defeated Zoadiac Phantom Aqua in Standard Mode. Better than nothing.
Am I the only one who experience that in the third stage she only uses Blizzaja right after I have healed. I have tried to nit heal and then she never uses it, but as soon as I heal she does it. Anyone else?

I learned the patterns and i defeat her. it was still hard and a little luck based, trust me (i beat her on lv 70~)

I beat her on Lv 99 Critical Mode and she does chip damage to you at that level. So it can be quite easy once you learn her.

I'm on Proud and this feels like Critical.. xD Now I'ms cared on how she'll feel when she's on Critical then.

Sometimes she just disappeared entirely after the second one and then retaliated immediately into her one, two, three combo. Or she sometimes did that on the third time you baited her bait. And I found the most difficult part to be her Spellweaver Finish. Had to re-watch that section several times in this video. She usually screwed me up with her Blizzaga after her Spellweaver Finish. On a few occasions, I could survive that. And then in her third phase when she did that scream combo thing, she got me in the air. I survived that by pure luck. But thanks, again, for this very helpful guide. 😃

Okay two things 1 before the fight with phantom aqua begins make sure you still have spell weaver on so that you can get a chance to attract. 2 whenever the phantom aqua walks slowly to bate use shocklock because that would attempt to do some damage and than combo her twice at least .

For the first couple blockable attacks of Phantom Aqua's DM, you can use counter blast for extra damage and I-frames.
6:09 If you feel like pushing your luck, it's possible to parry that last orange attack and force an opening by attacking her at the same time she attacks you, like at the beginning of the fight, but you'll have to start attacking right after the second charge and you'll need a general idea of the direction she's coming from. (WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT IF AT CRITICAL HEALTH THIS TECHNIQUE IS VERY DANGEROUS)
Ya know, I think Canonically Aqua metaphorically fought the Final Phantom Aqua in the Post-Game, and ended up losing.
Which is why she's Anti-Aqua in KH3. It all makes sense to me.

One thing I did that worked pretty well is: If she was available for attack, I got in a couple of hits (not enough to finish the combo, but it might work after one combo) and, if Spellweaver was already available or was going to be available, I used it. If you use Spellweaver like that, it knocks her back and leaves her open for three full combo, so you get in a couple of free hits. I did that in the final stage, and she didn't even get to move before I killed her.
I can get her down to 1 or 2 bars Dx Then her revenge value or Blizzaga spell kills me. Mainly because I have to heal during the revenge and don't have magic for thundaga Dx Beat Lingering Will but can't beat Phantom Aqua...this is sad

If you just not use a finisher while in spellweaver style you can infinitely attack her until you trigger the situation command to finish spellweaver for an optimal damage output with minimal mp consumption

I don't think I've seen anyone mention this, so I'm not sure if you know this, but the reason the blizzaga is so tough is because she does her normal attacks during it.
It's not just random orange attacks, it's just hard to realize because you know, you're focused on the GIANT SPIKY ICE BALLS TRYING TO IMPALE YOU!!!!!!
I realized this because one time I successfully made it out alive of that sequence, but then she was doing the orange attacks and I thought I had more time before she did the 3 attacks, but she was further in the sequence than I anticipated, so I realized that the attacks she was doing during the Blizzaga was also that attack. Just thought I'd say it because you didn't explicitly state that she can do any attack simultaneously with this, that's the true reason it's so hard to deal with.
Yes, that's correct. It's considered random because there is no way to know whether she'll choose to do orange or her normals, so if you get unlucky and get orange it's very hard to survive.

Ahh, okay, thanks for clearing that up. Although theoretically if you were a super amazing robot with amazing reaction and processing you could dodge/block both but for casuals it probably is better to do this. (Not that I'm have these super amazing skills anyway, after taking a whole day to beat the Demon Wave on CM (which I did without a guide AND on the pre-patched version of the game since I'm having ...account issues, I was very proud) I still decided to start another playthrough of Proud rather than even try on CM, (and I STILL had to grind) and it still took multiple tries. I just thought it would be good to note since I often had to deal with this attack because I had to heal myself so often so I usually didn't have mp)
I must appreciate the level of detail the producers put into the boss, and the skill (or good timing) necessary to beat her, but if they have any secret bosses like this in a game, I believe they should be purely optional. Sure, reward players, but make it something cosmetic or not OP. It has to be a good enough award to make it worth the fight, but it can’t be like some ultimate weapon because it would make more casual players feel left out.
I’ve faced Zodiac Phantom Aqua a few times (once earlier today) and got thoroughly wrecked; I detected a pattern of sorts but it’s mostly my bad memory and intense impulsiveness that caused the methods to fail. I’ll have to invite over a friend who’s good at following patterns to fight hard bosses so we can “tag team” her.
can't really call it conquering if you had to use a guide to beat it.

With the orange barrage, the last three form a sort of y shape/triangle, so you can predict and parry the last one

It's a good thing I found this video.... Not gonna lie, I was raging quite a bit with this boss. While I still haven't beaten her as of yet. I think if I watch this video enough, and practice it. I can finally beat her.
Also.... I feel quite a bit of shame. Since I'm only playing on Standard.... I've never been brave enough to try a harder difficulty with these games. Since standard's optional bosses kick my ass enough as is.

7:56 i have a better, and to me, more safer option than jumping. on the second block, you should use her counter blast so you'll be invincible while being shot at and you should do the same thing with with the second wave of attacks, and after that she'll already be in her finisher which is easy to block as well.

Tropic Hawk Master of Masters, Luxu, one of the Dandelions, or some form of the main antagonist for the next saga. Of course Sephiroth should be a secret boss once again so that he'll have been fightable in all the main-numbered KH games (meaning KH1, KH2, and KH3).

Well of course the Master of Masters would be holding back quite a bit of his true power. I feel like this iteration of Sephiroth will either be the strongest one so far, or stronger than KH2 but weaker than KH1 (I consider KH1 Sephiroth harder than KH2 Sephiroth).

I just don't see a reason for the Master of Masters to hold back his powers at that point. Nomura would be able to find a way to make it happen though.
Of course KH1 Sephie is harder than his KH2 iteration. That version wasn't that big of a challenge. For a superboss anyway. It's clear that Sora's grown more powerful than he. That's why I feel that we'll need to see his last form in KH3 in order for his battle difficulty to make sense.
(For the record though, a MoM superboss would be epic.)

I can't imagine what was going through Aqua's head when she saw the Zodiac boss, then again she must have felt the same way when Sora did on hook's ship when saw his shadow version of himself and he had to fight him in the first game man must be weird. If that happen to me I'll be like I may have to fight you but you're one good looking person.
Come to think of it I wonder if that was the case when this happened to the two of them another weird case for Sora is when he literally had to fight Roxas and found out Roxas was another version of himself like during the whole fight I had to tell myself don't make the pain of Sora stop talking to yourself or stop hitting yourself cuz he was fighting Roxas and talking to him during the fight

I'm trying to dodge roll from her orange Attacks, but every time I attempt to she comes from a different angle and reads the direction I roll to. How do I get past this?

when i fought phantom aqua in this game, i only did one full combo and let her get away because i was sure she can use the orange attack. also i only attacked her when she walks slowly; i just run around and/or jump to dodge without pressing square if she does anything else

This boss was a pain in the ass but it was fun
Was trying to get that last trophy, and I'm so frustrated now. I came here looking for tips, but besides the "Thundaga to cancel her Blizzaja" tip, it seems I was doing everything pretty perfectly. With her stupid speed though, a mistake is going to be inevitable.
When I made said inevitable mistake and got obliterated to 1 HP, I couldn't heal. I had MP. The game just wouldn't let me cast Curaga OR even use my items. They were all grayed out. Any idea what that was about? Cause I can't find any mention of this boss having a "heal block" technique.
(Doubt I'll go back at this point. She was at half a health bar left and I feel so cheated that I'm just in full rage-quit mode now.)

5:00 not sure if it's been patched. But everytime I bait her first attack, she doesn't do 2 more walking sequences. She usually goes into another attack.
I know Im a few years late but I finally beat her using these exact strategies :) now i just need to beat regular phantom aqua no damage and I'll have my 100%
I hate myself so I did this on critical. On this difficulty you don't have second chance or combo master from what I've seen. Once more still works though. Ironically got the queen of the ice rink objective on this boss also.
This helped kind of just got to get myself better for the reactions but I forgot how beastly some of the secret bosses can be.

Critical Mode it's too much for me. I defeated Zoadiac Phantom Aqua in Standard Mode. Better than nothing.
Noob-tip: Grind to level 99 if you want to beat this boss on critical. She still wont be easy, but she will be 10 times easier!

I have tried to nit heal and then she never uses it, but as soon as I heal she does it. Anyone else?
