I love with JJ. He was my guy coming out this year. But 100% need to bring darnold back! Number 1 pick skillset and it's def coming together. His poise navigating the pocket is super impressive
Just be ready to lose Cam Bynum and maybe Byron Murphy if we do that. Using that much cap on one guy will likely mean losing several other guys. It's not as simple as people want to believe.
I think another really useful topic to go over in a video would be rookie contracts, and how the 5th year option works. And why letting rookies sit for 2-3 years just isn't an option anymore. I keep seeing people say, "just let JJ sit and learn for 3-4 years like Jordan Love" not realizing that the current CBA didn't exist when Jordan Love was a rookie and if it did, the Packers never would have let him sit that long. The reality is that you have to see what these guys can do early.
I would love to see darnold in MN for the next 2 years, and build Mccarthy behind him like the packers did with jordan love. If darnold shows hes the guy, maybe we keep him and trade Mccarthy 🤷♂️
Sam is a baller with kill shot instincts. It’s always been his style of play, going back to his USC days (and probably HS, although I didn’t watch him play then). He has the arm talent to squeeze passes into tight windows as well as make difficult cross field throws on time and well placed. But he has always needed a coach who could guide him successfully and make it all work in the offense as a whole. This year we’ve seen the very successful combo of Sam’s talents and predilections guided by KOC’s savvy coaching mind. To me it would be best for all concerned if Sam stayed for another year. I’m thinking that last option is best.
Banking on Darnold being good next yr is not guaranteed either bruh! We are talking about Sam Darnold after all. It's not like he was Kirk Cousins 😂 (actually mean Tom Brady) before he came here. There is a reason we signed him for 10 mil. Not saying....Just saying.......
@@youthanasia007thank goodness there's others out there with common sense lol. Everyone is so "McCarthy is an unknown" when to me we don't know Darnold can replicate this level of play. Too much national news on this Darnold thing. Vikings and Sam need to concentrate on the games at hand, and not get derailed. This could be an easy let down game. They need this one big time, because Buffalo is going to beat the Lions.
The Vikings are focused, rest assured. And I’m pretty sure Sam doesn’t pay attention to any of this crap right now. He’s all about the business at hand. And if the Vikings are paying attention, then they’re not worthy of respect as a football organization
I'd like to see Kwesi trade out of the 1st rd. and recoup some draft capital, if possible. Wind up with a 2nd and two 3rd's (with Cousins comp pick), or maybe even two 2nd's and the Cousin's 3rd, to go with the two 5th's and a 7th.
I would definitely say give Sammy D a one year extension so JJ can keep studying and work on techniques through practice. Get some touches here and there, but really let him learn the game. That'll only enhance the chances of having a full time franchise QB for a fat minute.
If youre sure hes the guy, go long term. If not but you also arent sure about jj, do the one yr. If you know/ believe this is an outlier season, tag n trade. The safest is the one yr deal
Quarterback whisperers don't tag and trade projects (unless they're on board with it) because it destroys the trust you need to develop with the players.

The only logical path is extending Sam 2 more years and let JJ learn under Sam. If they let Sam walk, there’s too much pressure on JJ next season. We expect 11-2 this time next year, and I don’t think JJ can deliver that result. Right now Sam is the man. We don’t even know if JJ has the NFL pedigree and would pan out. Additionally I think JJ is an injury-prone. There’s too many QBs revolving in the Vikings organization, we finally got a good QB in Sam. Why let him walk? It doesn’t any sense to me.
No guarantee JJ will ever be as good as Darnold is now. Sam was the higher rated prospect and that is the player you are finally seeing. You can recoup some draft picks trading JJ. Either way nice to have a problem that is a pretty good one.
I still think the Vikings are better off getting assets for Darnold in a tag and trade while his value is peaked. Yes, JJ isn't a guarantee but they had enough faith in him to draft him at 10, so why wouldn't they believe in him now. People want to talk about Geno and Baker. Geno had a good year in 2022, got his contract, and was not good in 2023. Baker was good in 2023, got his contract, and has backed it up pretty well although he has a lot of turnovers. Darnold coming back doesn't guarantee he'll replicate his success from this season. They truly will need all of the assets they need to rebuild the roster next season given the amount of FAs and holes they'll need to address. We keep seeing KOC is a QB guru...let him be that with McCarthy.
