I've got a TH-cam story you can cover, if you remember it happening. Some time in early 2010 it was discovered that you could lower someone's subscriber count if you essentially repeatedly clicked the unsubscribe button on their channel. Back then, and before this was patched, the subscribe and unsubscribe buttons worked by essentially having you follow a link to a version of the page where you're subscribed or unsubscribed, depending on which one you started on. You could easily pull the link that does the "unsubscribe" function and repeatedly go to it to lower someone's subscriber count. You could also do it by subscribing to a channel then opening it in a bunch of tabs and unsubscribing in each of them. /b/ coordinated a "raid" where everyone did this to Fred's channel, and it was actually brought down to 0 subscribers. Of course I joined in, and of course I got banned, losing my 600-subscriber+ channel I made in Jan 2007 I had since I was 11 years old. You can still find old news articles and forum/reddit threads on the topic. I can send some links if you'd like.
Very interesting story. I want to say I remember this. "Unsubscribe from Fred on June 1" right? ;) I'll look into this. Thanks! I would very much appreciate links! Feel free to reach out to me at my channel email with that. :)
NationSquid: *panicking because there was an audio glitch in their video* Us viewers, thinking it was intentional: "I like your funny words, magic man!"
My mind was just blown learning that you didn't intentionally put the glitch in that video! It felt so perfectly timed and TERRIFYING! Cheers for that happy accident :)
What an interesting backstory! Yeah, the _Goggle_ video was suggested to me by the algorithm, and at first I was wondering what was going on, but ultimately, I thought it was done deliberately to scare the frell out of me. And I loved it because it _really_ worked - I think it was the very first time a TH-cam video actually managed to make wonder what was going on. IMHO, leaving the video as it is was the best decision - it's just perfect.
8:38 Honestly, I can 100% understand proofwatching after exporting, because I've had my own experiences of glitches that show up on export but not in the editor. I remember when I used to edit Gmod animations in Premier years back, whenever I would export them, there would be this glitch where it skips to a completely different frame and hang on it until it reaches that point in the video. I would constantly have to add very tiny fade transitions to prevent it from happening, as I had no idea how to do so otherwise.
I remember watching the video and thinking it was just a TH-cam screwup, skipped ahead a bit to when the audio started again and carried on. I didnt even consider that it could have been something intentional, but I'm also not nearly as observant as a lot of other people when it comes to that kind of thing. Anyway, it's definitely a fun story to hear about and I'm glad that such a minor oversight worked in your favor.
While I'm a little disappointed to find out that it wasn't intentional, I'm amazed at how intentional it seemed. Even to the point where with the lost audio section after 20 seconds I was like "okay the bits gone on long enough" 😂 Glad that it worked out in your favor though
