पहली और ज़्यादा ज़रूरी योग्यता किसी भी कलात्मक प्रस्तुति की उसका मर्म कितना गहरा और लोक चेतना से संबंधित है या नहीं यह होती है। कहने का तरीक़ा द्वितीय श्रेणी का पैमाना है। आम बोलचाल में कही गई बात निश्चय ही आधिकाधिक लोगों तक पहुँचेगी लेकिन इसका यह क़तई निष्कर्ष नहीं की सिर्फ़ क्योंकि वो आधिकाधिक लोगों तक पहुँच रही है इसलिए वो उच्च कोटि की कला है। पहली कसौटी हमेशा “क्या” बात कही जा रही है वह ही रहती है ना की बात कही किस ढंग और किस भाषा में जा रही है।
