I like the lock picking a lot. However i dont like when i crack a master lock and all i get is a pack of ammo and juice pack. Who is going to put those items in a safe like that 🤣
@P-dub978 lol that person must have really loved their ramen. The feeling of cracking those complex locks and get trash items. I do like the lockpicing though. Very fun until you see the contents
For anyone else looking for a bit more basic explanation, on PC, hit A/D to rotate the hashes until they line up with the gaps. You'll need to account for them all, but not all at once. For example, for a novice lock, L click to select a likely candidate, line it up, hit E and then select another, line the next up, hit E again and that should remove the outer layer, then repeat for the inner layer.
0:00ish... I've self-invented the strategy of selecting Keys and 'dry-fitting them' to the Keyholes and getting satisfied i've found the right solution before I ever even start ploppin them in. Seems to be workin for me this far. :) 2:40ish... Ahh, once again, a case of "Great Minds think alike!"! :D End of Vid: Honestly, I totally dig this Lockpicking System... especially the part where time is frozen during it so ya can chill your way through it all ya want. :)
I'm sorry but the fact that so many people need this video, and the fact that there's so many videos like this on TH-cam in general, shows that this is not a good design choice. Utterly convoluted.
8:48 Oh wow. I passed off the "eliminate decoys" skill as just being a simple nice-to-have time saver, but it hadn't occured to me that only having the usable patterns left means that if it says it can only be used on a certain layer, it WILL be used on that layer. That's super handy. And yeah, only slotting things after you've solved the ENTIRE pattern is one of the best pieces of advice in the game in general.
Still have no idea. I miss lockicking when it made sense. Didn't pick up the picks enough initially and every mission made me want to break my controller as they all end with lockpicking
after 150 hours of play, getting the first three levels and getting annoyed with the higher level locks, there were at least 3-4 things in this video I did NOT know(I got the achievement for 50 locks, so I've done a bunch). Great video.
Master locks are actually easy asf… not everyone’s brain will work for this one because there’s more then just simply slotting whatever fits. Look at the blue and grey coloring. Look at the different layers. Great lock picking
I've never used the auto slot but I start aligning my picks from the inner ring and I work my way out. I used far fewer picks and I got through the levels really quick doing this.
It’s super important to buy and pick up every digi pick. Way more important than it was in previous BGS games. Because before lock picks and Bobby pins weren’t destroyed as long as you didn’t break it and unlocked it successfully. Digipicks get used up the second you start the solve. Meaning if you have a single digi pick and solve the puzzle with no issues, it still gets used up in your inventory no matter what. It’s as if they break regardless. So you couldn’t unlock a whole room filled with locked containers with a single pick whereas you could in previous games. So that’s why you need to buy them and pick them up consistently. Because you burn right through them probably faster than med packs and ammo depending on how much you like to open locked containers. I know I always have around 30 and never more because I can never save up enough to get more than 30 of them lol
I'm actually kind of disappointed in the lockpicking in this game. The mini game is interesting, but the loot that you typically get from expert and master level locks just, so far, doesn't seem to be worth the effort spent to unlock them in most cases. I've gotten some basic equipment/weapons/ammo from them, but rarely anything really good. Typically the only use I have found for being able to unlock more difficult locks is anything mission based where you might be able to unlock a shortcut or disable some kind of security, but for just day to day looting it seems like it's not worth wasting a digipick in most circumstances for just random high tier locks.
You need to change to Very Hard when dropping onto the landing, when loading the POI zone, when going thru every door, before touching a body or chest… Check you’re on hard mode. It upgrades all the loots. You can flip to easy 5 seconds later, to fight the now existing mobs. Just flip back to hard once there’s no red dots on your radar & start looting!
Also you can save-scum, they call it. Save before doing the thing, and if it’s a weak item or nothing, reload & redo… looking for the Legendary, AND the good features on that legendary that make it worth your time. Save & reloading is probably less time than running a new mission…
You should statt aligning from the very inside layer to the most external, also, always using the more complex patterns., Once aligned, just start to open the lock.
@@mikeyswift2010 I don't get it either. I only see two layers: one I'm currently picking plus the "next" one. This works fine, more or less, until I get to the last two layers at which point it's all guesswork for me.
You can only slot from the outside in, but you shouldn't actually physically slot ANY patterns until you've placed every single pattern in your head. That's the key to this, line every single pattern up FIRST, and only then commit to it.
@@BleedingUranium I can't see any pattern except the layer I'm on and the next one, which is what has me so confused. Also the way I describe the lockpicking process sounds totally different from what my brother who also plays appears to see when he plays. I don't know what the disconnect is.

I actually think the biggest difficulty for some people is spacial memory and these tips don't actually help them. The problem is, trying to align all the picks is hard when you have to remember which slots are still open because the pick you aligned disappears from alignment view as soon as you switch to another pick. Therefore, they can't even utilize the strategy in this video because you could align two patterns in the same field but not realize they shared one of the openings.
I'd actually call this the WORST lockpicking system in gaming other than maybe Kingdom Come Deliverance's Parkinson's picking. I hate them both with a passion.
"If you enjoy lockpicking" is a cry for help if you do lol. I am going to do like I did with Skyrim and FO4, unlock everything that doesn't require a key in the CK then use a mod that automatically unlocks things for mods that have locked stuff. Other news I discovered the alien looking player character shown in a screenshot well before the games release... my nose is still burning from the beer I squirted out of it.
Best lockpicking mini game? Cmon man- read the forums- 90% of the community thinks it’s terrible. On expert it literally wastes so much time most people give up- not fun at all.
I can't figure this out at all. Blew through all my digipicks on my first novice lock, Can't stand this at all, give ma a screw driver and bobby pin any time. might just quit Starfield just to frustrated.

Who is going to, ya say? Easy answer: "Trolls". Even in the future, it's of course gonna be too much to ask for no one to ever be a Troll. 🙄
You should change gameplay mode to hardest, loot generation has a higher frequency of legendary items 😊
