It’s definitely getting cold my friend. -2°F with the windchill. I was glad to have this cold because I wanted to test my camera equipment in some cold. I was happy with how it performed. It was awesome to get two ships in the cold. I hope all is well in Netherlands brother.❄️⛴️👍🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
Believe it or not, my friend, it’s going to get colder through the winter. I’m just glad that my camera equipment didn’t go down while filming the ships in the cold.
Sally, that is so key. The clothes. The heavy jacket and snow pants that I was wearing really helped out a lot. Your face feels it after a while. I ran immediately to my vehicle and turned that heat on when the ships went by.
Hi Adam, feim the crew of my favorite Laker and thank you Captain for the frozen then working whistle. You guys are awesome . My boat friend Mike this was fantastic you are so awesome to brave thise Temps. Big warm hug from Ga.
I have something good to tell you though Betty. It’s starting to get warmer and Duluth. And by warmer I mean around 30°. That’s actually a good thing. It feels like a Hawaiian vacation right now.😂😂😂😂😂

Love Duluth .. live in a northern suburbs outside of Minneapolis. Driving up North to Duluth to Visit is so beautiful.. love staying on The Bay. Love the shops scenery ..The romantic atmosphere. So great! Hope James Cameron makes a good Movie there ..Great place to film one. Very Mystic Place .
How lucky was I to get those two ships at the same time? I’m glad that my camera equipment kept rolling in that cold. I really enjoyed seeing that ice on top of the American century.
It’s still crazy to see a little bit of grass on the ground when it’s two below zero. When the bigger snow hits, it’s going to stay on the ground throughout the winter. This was the first ice ship video as winter set in. There’s going to be more to come my friend.
@@insertnamehere313 Worked on a golf course as a maintenance worker cutting grass every day.. lol I love grass but I'm so happy it aint growing any more 😂
Love that frozen horn warming up... thanks Mike for bringing this to us. Pretty cold here in Niagara. First snow on the ground too but up to 7C on Thursday. cheers man
We have 3 inches on snow this morning here in Jackson Mi. I even got the snow blower out! Winter arrived. Love watching the old lake ships. Makes you feel like we are back in the 50's or 60's. Love it. Odd the Clarke didn't have any ice on her.
@@vibewithmike Yes wind chill down to 1 degree tonight. A few weeks ago you and i was just talking about how nice it was with 60 degree weather at your location and here in Jackson Mich. I'm 63 now and this cold is getting old but like the great lake area.
I remember the cold places the Navy took us to. My husband put in twenty years. Chicago, Washington, Oregon. He was out to sea for six months, but some places were cold. Some places were hotter than heck- Gulf of Oman. Thanks for this. Stay warm☕
Susan, to your husband. Thank you for your service! It means a lot to me and many others. It’s people like you that served our country that allows me to make videos like this. Thank you!🙏🇺🇸
Dennis, one advantage as I was able to see how my electronics were working in this cold. I want to make sure they’re able to work in the future when I do live streaming in that cold when the ships are going by. Thanks for watching the ships man.
Yes, moving forward. I’m going to show you some samples to give you a better idea of that cargo is on those ships. I like trying to make this more interactive for us. It was cold out there for the ships.
What an awesome video Mike. A lot of ice abounds. Can't recall your last twofer! Have you ever done one before where you captured one going, one coming?? Got to love it when the Clarke captain came out and said the horn was frozen. Yet he still tried to salute the crowd. He didn't want to disappoint. And yet his ship still belted out a 116.6 Db !!
Agreed, Chuck, cannot remember enjoying a Vibes with Mike twofer!! The captain was awesome and the ice, incredible!! Must be so cold on those ships on days like these.
@vibewithmike, The Skipper coming out of his cozy bridge to say they have a frozen whistle just proves the toughness of these brave men. Great video as always my friend...! Now go get something warm too drink, like some Blackberry Brandy...I lift a shot to you my friend..👍
Two-fer Tuesday. Both ships are great looking. The Philip R Carke's horn sounded weak until it broke through. The American Century with frozen ice on the railing looked like spider webs to me. The morning temperature in Farmington was 14 degrees. And somewhat windy. The high temperature got up to 21 degrees. Starting tomorrow through Saturday night it should be in the 40's! Yes -2 degrees below zero on the Duluth Harbor feels like it's colder than that. Stay safe and warm Mike.
We are going to be around 30° tomorrow in Duluth! Should I grab a beach chair and go grab some rays out there on the sand?😂 but in all seriousness, I really enjoyed recording the ships in the cold. It allowed me to test my equipment for the upcoming even colder weather.
Charlie, you already know Brother, I’ve been waiting for this type of weather. I love the ice and the snow, especially when it’s with ships. It’s about to get real fun Brother! I can’t wait to catch a ship filled with ice!❄️⛴️👍
Bryan, you know, I do this as a hobby. I love these ships. However, the thing I love best is putting these videos out for people like you to learn and enjoy. I didn’t know too much about ships not too long ago and it was watching videos that helped me learn. So I’m happy this is helping you. We are going to have some fun as the weather gets colder with the ships.
Wow, that looks cold with all that ice hanging off the American Century. Don 't know how you can do it... but thanks for hanging out in what can be some pretty cold days and getting us these great videos. That was a great shot of the AC and the PRC passing each other! Kudos to the Captain of the Clarke giving it a try and succeeding with an excellent salute. Love the old school look of the Clarke and its paint scheme. Stay Warm my friend!
I cannot wait to get some videos when heavy snow is coming down with the ships going out. It’s going to be awesome. Are you more of an ice or just a snow type of guy for the ships?
@@vibewithmike Actually both. Love seeing the snow on the ground but also love seeing the ships cutting through the ice. I'm guessing the captains of the ships aren't too fond of the ice though.
Thank you so much for braving the cold to show us the "Two-fer." AND, filming long enough for me to see the pivot which I love seeing. Now, go get warmed up, Mike.
When I was a kid living in Detroit, our home was headed by coal. I shoveled plenty of it into the coal hods for my dad to load the stove. Our coal was in much bigger pieces than you held in your hand today.
Yes looks really cold and due to that a special thank you to you that you are always there at the Aerial Lift Bridge no matter how cold or hot it is....
Hi Mike, how are you doing, what a great show having two great vessels at the same time, the weather in a bit chilly there in Duluth but it was worth while to get some great videos.👍👍.
Good cold morning Mike. Both of these ships are in my top fav's. I saw the beacon Monday evening. Not sure what you were filming but I was just watching the lovely canal. Love hearing the cars driving over the metal grates in the bridge. Stay safe and warm. Thanks for posting!
Vicki, it’s always great hearing from you. It was such a pleasure to record both of the ships at the same time, and it was actually kind of fun and very cold weather. I’m not saying I wanna be out there all the time like that but for those two ships it was totally fine and different.
Second time I have seen one of your videos…. Brought back lots of memories for me. I grew up on the Canadian side of Lake Erie at the mouth of the Grand River. My grandfather was the second last lighthouse keeper there. My dad worked on the lake for a bit so watching the ships crossing the lake towards the Welland Canal was a big part of my childhood. Thanks for sharing and brightening my day here in landlocked Calgary Alberta.
There’s something about people like us that share that bond with the big water next to us. The ships and the wonderful Maritime atmosphere really does wonders for the soul in my opinion. I’m glad that you came back for another video. I hope you will subscribe and come back for more Because you’re the type of good person we want involved on this channel.
3:05 pm in Central California. So glad I visited the Duluth canal back in July. Spent a fun day there on an excursion from the Viking Octantis which you filmed. Such a fascinating place that I watch you almost every day now. Amazing to me that folks don’t let the freezing weather stop them from coming out to greet the ships. We only had the Coast Guard running drills the day we visited - no giant lakers. Hope to get there again next year. Thanks for your reports.

Duke, I’m so glad you found the channel! You’ll be seeing a lot of cool stuff with snow and ice on the ships. I can’t wait to get out there with a bad snowstorm. It’s a pleasure meeting you friend.
Its exactly the opposite over here. Its the hottest its been so far this summer. Its midnight and its 100'F. You could probably take quite a few screenshots from this video and paint them and they would look incredible! Heck you could print them and they would be considered art! Your work is fantastic brother! Frozen whistle had to shake the ice I think! Sounds neat! The Clarke is one heck of a ship! Have a great one brother! 🚢🛳️😁👌
Johan, this is when you and I need to come together and switch some of the weather. You give me a little of yours I’ll give you a little of mine. It should even out pretty good. It’ll be above 30° for me and it’ll be around 80° for you. We got to make a game plan to get this done. What did you think of the ice on that structure on American century? That things was iced over. I hope all is well in South Africa today brother.🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦⛴️👍
I am all for that idea! What makes things worse is that we have loadshedding at stage 6 so I had no power for the last 4 hours and now apparently someone has gone and stolen some cables so no power or AC for the next few hours as well. 🥵🤬 It looked very cool! The ice glimmers in the early morning sunshine! Like I said it art man! 😅🙌🏼
Hello my friend in South Africa!!👋 I'm sorry you are having blistering hot weather. You could send some to Mike and I. We would not mind. I agree on the whistle. She just had to get those ice crystals out and then she was fine.
Steve, let me say it’s a pleasure meeting you, my friend. Plan on seeing many more ships that have ice and snow covered on them. You found the channel that a very fun time when the ships are going through interesting weather. I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday night.
Hey friend! I hope you’re having a great Tuesday night. How have you been? It was so cold in Duluth yesterday with the wind. It felt like it was 25 below zero. I really enjoyed recording both of these ships. I was able to get a great recording tonight of an ocean vessel. I think you will like that in the future. Take care friend.
Mike did you know that there was a salty stuck in the Detroit River? It was just north of downtown Detroit maybe 100 feet from shore, filled with wheat on it's way to France. Another great video Mike.
Hey Mike. Watch your channel every night. Love your insight and observations. Will we ever see what you look like? Always fun to connect a face to a voice. 😀
Sometimes people can see me on the WebCam there by the canal. I love the mystery of people wondering if I’m young or old until they finally meet me. Many people have met me down by the canal. Jack, I really appreciate you watching brother.
Hello my friend!! -2 degrees windchill is cold but it is going to get colder than that I can assure you. Thanks you for showing an example of what the coal looks like that the AC is carrying. Always nice to have an idea of what it looks like. I love watching the turn either going out or coming in. I'm always amazed. Wow!! That is ice for sure on the bow. Nice shot of the sun and the bow going though the canal. Good shot of Chuck's bike there on the stern. You got a very nice shot of the two vessels right before the Clarke hit the lighthouse.I can see that she is fully loaded and low in the canal. Yeah, the horn did sound a bit off at first but like you said it did break loose. Not bad. Thanks for giving us a two-fer. How often does that happen? Not alot. Hope you have a great evening Mike. Take care and I will chat soon. 🙋🚢
Hi Karen, I've always felt that below zero temperatures should be referenced to 32 degrees F. Most people can relate to 32 degrees F as the point water freezes, but I actually know people in the south that haven't been in weather much less than this. I think saying 34 degrees below freezing is more "impressive" than 2 below zero. What do you think? :-)
Karen! I really appreciate you always writing wonderful, long comments that are so fun to read for me, and so many others. I think overtime it’s taken a life of itself, Chuck’s bike on the back, it’s so fun to always look for it. And surprisingly, it’s always there. There’s gonna be more ice and snow coming for the ships Karen. It’s going to get fun.
Deb, I finally got the first ship with some ice on it this winter. We both know there’s a lot more to come. You will see me out there tonight along north pier if the ship from Netherlands or the integrity departs
Thanks for the video! We were in Duluth back on Oct 4th and watched the AC leaving port in shorts and a T-shirt. It was 75F and sunny (weird for Duluth in Oct.). Things have certainly changed.
Can you believe that! I know what you mean about that warm temperature situation in October and even a few weeks ago there were people in shorts here in Duluth. Trust me, nobody’s in shorts today. Thank you for watching the video of the ships my friend.
Good morning Mike, looks really cold .2 degrees, Feels like down here been raining & strong wind for 2 days . A big difference from last Sunday anyway stay safe a get warm
My friend, you are a brave man!! You really take the cold weather hit so we can enjoy seeing these great ships! Thanks so much for your dedication. I wish I could send hot chocolate via video! It was the same temp and wind chill here too! I was outside for 5 minutes and froze my fingers!❤❤
I actually did have some hot chocolate after this video. It will get colder as we get closer to January but I am looking forward to capturing on videos some really great ships with the snow coming down.
Wow, 2 below zero wind chill on 28 November Winter is in Duluth. It is amazing how long it takes to freeze lake superior. That is winter when she snow does not melt on the grass, dirt, or cement. We have been to Gillette, WY to see some of the largest openpit coal mines in Wyoming. It is the coal capitol of Wyoming.
WOW mike it's a heat wave here in Easton was 24 this morning. Thaks for the ships today U R the best. Stay warm. By the way the wind was at 24 mph this morning.
Scott, think of that brother, that’s straight up is a heat wave right now for me, 24°. Did you see that person walking on the beach when it was -2°F? That’s what I call a stroll on the beach!😂😂😂😂⛴️👍🏖️🏝️⛱️
Another great video Mike. Thanx for braving the negative digits for us. This was a nice two fer one special. And those anchors on the AC (4:32) are cool looking. They're different than what I'm used to seeing over here. I remember some time back someone, George maybe, mentioned what kind of anchors they are but I can't, for the life of me, remember what he called them. Anyone remember?
I think it might’ve been Chuck that mentioned what the anchors are. That’s been kind of his go-to vessel since we saw his bike in the bike back in the summer. He also mentions that one anchor looked newer than the other. Another great observation. It was really fun capturing the ships in the cold. I look forward to more of these ice videos.
@Robbie1075 you bring up a really good point. Early on I did mention the aerial lift bridge decibel reading, it’s always above 100 for sure. I wonder if I should start saying it every time?

Brrrr a cold one! We finally got our first snow a couple days ago and I'm already over it. We were spoiled with nice temps and then suddenly it was winter! It'll be a long few months until spring. I see the gulls decided they weren't in the mood for frozen fish sticks. I don't remember if they were around last winter or if they head south. You need to get one of those heated coats that uses a battery to keep it warm!
I’m going to keep my head up because I know that the weather should’ve been a lot colder for the last month. However, now it’s getting into the 30s in Duluth. That’s a winter warm-up for me.
@@vibewithmike We hit 54 in Des Moines and it feels like Spring! I didn't need a coat at all. But I know it's probably the last hurrah for this kind of weather. I'm soaking in what I can.

Hi Mike. Terrific video. 2 for the price of one. You'd never know it was so cold there if you hadn't told us. With the sun shining it looked warm. Stay warm and bundle up. Maybe you need a thermos with hot chocolate on these cold days?
I Love these videos. It's really good on your Summer recorded videos, to see people come out to watch the ships arrive. The blowing of the whistle, is that more for the watching crowds? I'm assuming that Port Control will have radar, and can see where the ships are in relation to the Aerial Lift Bridge. Thank you again for your great videos. Spoolbox.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. I’m glad that you brought up the whistle/horn. There have been a few questions about the boat and bridge signal horns when the boats are entering and leaving the Port of Duluth. In most cases, once radio communication with the bridge has been established, use of the boat and bridge sound signals are not necessary and operation of the sound signals is left up to the captains. Often, boats will not use the loud horns after dark as a courtesy to city residents. So, most often when you hear the customary whistle/horn-blowing sequence of "long-short-short" it is a friendly salute to the Port of Duluth from the ship captain and is responded to by the lift bridge operator with the same sequence. The Master Salute is an upgraded more formal whistle/horn salute. That is “long-long-long-short-short.” While the famous sound may be a courtesy, it has long been part of the nautical tradition of this great inland sea port.
I appreciate you saying that. Cool TH-cam profile image. I hope you subscribe and come back to my channel to watch more ship videos moving forward. It’s all about having fun with the ships!👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️

Love that frozen horn warming up... thanks Mike for bringing this to us. Pretty cold here in Niagara. First snow on the ground too but up to 7C on Thursday. cheers man
You could hear that horn trying its best, and then it finally broke loose and got loud
We have 3 inches on snow this morning here in Jackson Mi. I even got the snow blower out! Winter arrived. Love watching the old lake ships. Makes you feel like we are back in the 50's or 60's. Love it. Odd the Clarke didn't have any ice on her.
That’s amazing, it’s like you have Duluth weather right now
@@vibewithmike Yes wind chill down to 1 degree tonight. A few weeks ago you and i was just talking about how nice it was with 60 degree weather at your location and here in Jackson Mich. I'm 63 now and this cold is getting old but like the great lake area.
I can’t complain too much sky, it was really nice weather the last few weeks if you remember in some of the videos. I was in a light sweatshirt.
Thank you!🙏🇺🇸
Two ships that was great, from Arizona City, Az. 72 F
Thanks for watching the ships, Leonard. What I would not give to have your temperature right now brother
Thanks Mike. Appreciate you going out in the weather to bring us this video.
Dennis, one advantage as I was able to see how my electronics were working in this cold. I want to make sure they’re able to work in the future when I do live streaming in that cold when the ships are going by. Thanks for watching the ships man.
No problem Mike. I’m pretty dedicated to watching the ships and your videos and live stream.
@dennisrockeysr4167 I super appreciate you Dennis
Thank you Mike. Thank you for sharing the samples.
Yes, moving forward. I’m going to show you some samples to give you a better idea of that cargo is on those ships. I like trying to make this more interactive for us. It was cold out there for the ships.
@vibewithmike could you also please mention what the product is used for? Like beet pulp for instance? Thanks Mike. Always learning.
@pckrbckr3616 absolutely great point! I will do that. Great idea.
What a great piece. A bogo with 2 beautiful ships. Great lighting conditions for the videographer. This one was special.
It was really fun capturing two ships, did you see the yellow ship live stream from tonight? Go check it out brother
Much appreciated Chuck. Thank you. Always great hearing a comment from you.
Agreed, Chuck, cannot remember enjoying a Vibes with Mike twofer!! The captain was awesome and the ice, incredible!! Must be so cold on those ships on days like these.
@elizabethw4519 I was lucky to see those two ships moving at the same time, and I took the opportunity to record them
That was so much fun to watch!!!!@@vibewithmike
Hey Mike, thanks for staying out in the cold. Beautiful. Stay warm
You got it friend, I’ll be out there in a warm jacket
@vibewithmike,
The Skipper coming out of his cozy bridge to say they have a frozen whistle just proves the toughness of these brave men. Great video as always my friend...! Now go get something warm too drink, like some Blackberry Brandy...I lift a shot to you my friend..👍
That captain is awesome
Oh, Mike! You were FREEZING, I guess the equipment stood up to it. Thanks for this great video, out in the cold and so early.
I’m glad the camera kept rolling. I am worried if it gets even colder though. I know I have to have the battery at 100% just in case.
Thank Mike for sharing a great video of two awesome ships. Love the Philp R Clarke is one favorites. Stay warm up in Duluth.
The Clarke is awesome
Some really great camera angles today, all the more appreciated because the weather was so harsh. Thank you.
Dan, I’m really glad that you enjoyed the ship video. Really appreciate you.

Charlie, you already know Brother, I’ve been waiting for this type of weather. I love the ice and the snow, especially when it’s with ships. It’s about to get real fun Brother! I can’t wait to catch a ship filled with ice!❄️⛴️👍
Thank you very much for putting these ships on the TH-cam. Have learned a lot from you!
Beautiful shot of the lake and still loving those pivots.
Those captains really impressed me with the turns with those big ships
@KenHartman152 yes, I agree when those ships are cutting through the ice it’s awesome
Thank you so much for braving the cold to show us the "Two-fer." AND, filming long enough for me to see the pivot which I love seeing. Now, go get warmed up, Mike.
Gloria, it’s going to get much colder and I’ll still be out there for you friend
When I was a kid living in Detroit, our home was headed by coal. I shoveled plenty of it into the coal hods for my dad to load the stove. Our coal was in much bigger pieces than you held in your hand today.

Hi Mike, how are you doing, what a great show having two great vessels at the same time, the weather in a bit chilly there in Duluth but it was worth while to get some great videos.👍👍.

Gotta love those old Lakers. Beautiful vessels.
I love all ships but there’s nothing like Great Lakes ships

Good cold morning Mike. Both of these ships are in my top fav's. I saw the beacon Monday evening. Not sure what you were filming but I was just watching the lovely canal. Love hearing the cars driving over the metal grates in the bridge. Stay safe and warm. Thanks for posting!
oh my gosh I love both those salutes, thank you to PRC and AC for the great salutes, safe journey to both Captain and Crew.
Vicki, it’s always great hearing from you. It was such a pleasure to record both of the ships at the same time, and it was actually kind of fun and very cold weather. I’m not saying I wanna be out there all the time like that but for those two ships it was totally fine and different.
Two for one, what a beautiful day to witness those ships departing and arriving. Have a good one Mike, blessings to you my friend!!!❤😊
No sense in splitting these into two separate videos, all the fun and one. Awesome ships. Thanks for the comment Brother.
Guess I can't complain about it being 50 degrees in Sacramento 30 at night. A lot warmer than where you are Mike. Cool video of two ships.

@@johanvandersandt8904 I really like Mike's camera work. He knows what we all like to see in the videos.📽️
@johanvandersandt8904 I really appreciate you and Karen saying those wonderful things
Karen! I really appreciate you always writing wonderful, long comments that are so fun to read for me, and so many others. Another great video Mike. Thanx for braving the negative digits for us. This was a nice two fer one special. And those anchors on the AC (4:32) are cool looking. They're different than what I'm used to seeing over here. I think it might’ve been Chuck that mentioned what the anchors are. That’s been kind of his go-to vessel since we saw his bike in the bike back in the summer. Brrrr a cold one! We finally got our first snow a couple days ago and I'm already over it. We were spoiled with nice temps and then suddenly it was winter! It'll be a long few months until spring.
Nice! Great narration.
I appreciate you saying that. Cool TH-cam profile image. I hope you subscribe and come back to my channel to watch more ship videos moving forward. It’s all about having fun with the ships!👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️
