Hi Everyone! This is not the most exciting video in the world, but it can help keep you from ending up in a bad situation. Let me know if I missed anything and don't make the same mistake I did. ADO

Thanks Gerald, a local fishermen was missing for a couple of days up here this last week because all he did was say he was going fishing. No phone with him and did not tell anyone where he was going and when he would return. We overlook the basics because, well, they are basic. Emergencies in the field are more often a lack of prep and planning. Hope this helps everyone who gets a chance to watch it. Thanks for checking it out. Dustin

Great point about the spare tire. 60 miles out into the desert, that phone won’t work. And there are some cacti and one or two plants that will go right through a tire. Topo maps are a must, too. Thank you for this video!

Many of us don't think about car stuff until something goes wrong. If proactive many "survival" situations turn into inconveniences.

I took my 5 year old daughter with me in the summer of 1991. Snow was still in a large area. Excellent memories. Beautiful Mt Rainier. Beautiful State of Washington. Thank you, informative valuable information.

The top has 25 glaciers. Below that it is pretty wild to see snow still after we are almost through summer. Great spot. Thanks for the comments and watch. D

    THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I love to watch NORTH WOODS LAW, on TV, and they're always having to go up their various mountains to bring down lost or injured hikers. They stress advice to the viewers, Let people know your plans and a time line. Carry a battery head-lamp and a pocket light and a clip-on LED strobe that can be clipped on you to see from the air. Have some type of jacket, and light weight rain gear. Have a laminated map of the area you're going to be hiking in and a Compass. Have a whistle with a string, that can be worn around the neck. All that can be carried inside a BUTT-PACK with it's own web strap belt. Even if your whole hike is only going to take a couple of hours, plan for inclimate weather and possibly a sprain, where you'll be outside in the dark. Have some type of pepper gel, in case of animal or criminal arrack, and a walking staff or cane. They stress to plan for the worst, in what you carry. Possibly an aluminum space blanket that's reflective, that can keep you warm in the wind, as well as to glint to helicopter rescue personnel. All that will pack light and small in your pack. Check your pack and an extra battery/s, every time you go on a hike. It will aid in your rescue, if needed, as well as help you survive if the unthinkable happens. And carry your water. Also, from Corporal's Corner, carry a "Life-Straw". It filters brook-water, or melted snow, so you can drink it safely.
    Thanks for all you do.

Thank you Charles, this stuff is basic, but because of that it is easy to forget or overlook. We had a fisherman go missing this week. Only thing they had to go on. He told his wife he was going fishing. No cell, no other info. He turned up. It would suck to end up dead over something like not telling a person where you are going.

Great information, especially about the vehicle that got you there. One thing I hope you add to the list is a stand alone GPS unit. they are relatively inexpensive, and work anywhere.
    Keep up the good stuff!

Minimum on weight maximum on utility. So many ways to pack out gear and so many good theories on what to pack. The gear one is coming. Mostly I go off of the 5 or 10 C model and then what will make me comfortable that I am willing to carry. It is amazing how only a handful of items can change your survival hours from 24 to 96+

Would rather not have made this comment in this section but I could not find a one on one email address on line. Anyway I just ran across your work from a reference on Corporals Corner. I want to see all your videos because I was stationed at Fort Lewis back in late 1966 early 67 packing for Nam. Unfortunately our hiking and camping was in South Vietnam rice fields and rivers and not Mount Rainier’s hills and meadows. While those wetlands were beautiful as well, I never got the chance to see Washington. Seeing it now through you is great but I have “Hearing Deficit Disorder” and I can’t hear most of what you are saying even with CC turned on. Anyway to fix that? Other than that liking what I am seeing. Thanks and keep up the good work. 👍🇨🇱

Thank you for your service. My dad was in same time as you out of SoCal. Mortarman. I am starting to have hearing issues as well (got in between a few rockets in a row once and it did some damage. I am going to look into how to do the subtitles. Also going to adjust the way I have done audio from here on out so you should be able to get it up quite a bit more on videos after this. Was chatting with Shawn about audio levels the other day and doing a lot more research. Dustin
