Imagine seeing and hearing this on a BBC Micr back in the day. It would completely change your view of “the schools computer”!

Mind blown! I do feel sorry for the 6502 though... must be sweating in there! Top stuff :-)

I'm loving that tribute to Budbrain's Kaos at the very end...! ;-)

I fully expect to see and hear this on the dance floor in Ibiza next summer. Go the Mighty BBC B. We still love you.

Ooh, this is all palette shifting tricks, right? Display one 16-colour image containing multiple animation frames and cycle through them with VDU19 while decompressing the next image into the other video bank in the background? I've never seen it done so well, though, with perfect synchronisation with the music. Doing the choreography must have been a labour!

Yes, they’re all palette cycling effects. There are actually three 8K frame buffers in use here. One is being decompressed in the background whilst we can switch between the other two instantly. All the sequencing was done by adding an event track along side the music composed in Arkos Tracker 2, with a debug build that could hot reload the events for testing. The musician Rhino also did the sequencing, which went way beyond what I expected him to come up with. We almost ran out of RAM at the last moment because the event stream was so dense with commands!
