Meow! Aww. Cats are so cute in the back seat. Glad you made it safely there. There was some wind noise. Glad you are both safe and nothing worse happened. It's always something! - Jim & Michelle
Very interesting video! Rosie and I had done a small amount of off grid living back in our Solitude. I had two Battleborn 100AH batteries and a Rynogy suitcase 200-watt solar system. I also had a 1000-watt inverter that serviced a stand-alone plug in the unit. Now with the Brinkley we have 2 370-watt panels on the roof and 4 Battleborn Batteries. I also installed a 3,000-watt inverter with built in transfer switch. (I installed the 1000 w. inverter as a back-up). Brinkley makes putting the inverter in pretty easy. They pre-wire it so you can plug it in and it services a sub-panel that makes most plug ins live. We spent last season in the LTVA and loved it. We should arrive in about 10 days near the Imperial Dam. Stay safe. Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on You-Tube.
I believe it’s called banana pudding. It’s usually made with vanilla wafers. Ive seen where they leave the wafers whole and crumbled up. Glad you got your inverter fixed.
Sorry to hear that you had power issues. Glad it wasn’t worse than it was. Don’t know if you’ve heard but Starlink now sells a DC2DC power adapter for some of their current dishes that may help you b/c you are currently converted DC to AC then back to DC. Glad you are all back and functioning.
Thanks, yes actually just watched a video on the new DC, but it's only for Gen3 (and mini) so we can't benefit from that version. Our Xtar DC conversion was working well but our pepwave decided to go out so we are back to using factory router for now.- Kyle and Michelle
So glad you didn't have any worse of an electrical issue! I'm so wanting to get down to that area for winter....we're on the fence about getting a new rig thks year or putting it off until next fall... Hope you winter goes great.
Thanks, we got lucky with these issues for sure. We are really enjoying this area during the winter, (clearly since we have been here 4 winters in a row now 8) ) Chances are good for year five, perhaps we will have a chance to meet in person.- Kyle and Michelle
My dad - an owner/operator truck driver - had his inverter catch fire while he was asleep in the bunk. It barely was enough time for him to escape the cab before the whole truck was engulfed. I always recommend placing inverters near the outside, away from the living areas. Also consider placing a fire ball extinguisher over the unit to activate should there be a fire.
Thanks so much for the feedback, I can't believe I forgot to mention but we actually do have a fire ball extinguisher under there with the electrical stuff. We had seen that suggestion several years ago for the back of the fridge as well (the propane /electric king that we originally had too). Glad you dad was able to escape, I have seen how fast these vehicles can go up in flames. Glad it was not hurt.- Kyle and Michelle
@thewanderingshores you want sobering and scary? Visit one of those large RV salvage/junk yards. We spent most of a day at Colaw in MO. The 2 greatest causes of complete loss RVs were propane leak behind the fridge and dash electrical.. Only a tiny overall percentage were wrecks and blowouts. Colaw has 80 acres of parted out RVs and trailers - and the sheer number of RV fridge fires was frightening.
so thankful that you both missed a really bad disaster. tip, always carry a couple cans of air for electronics (computers, phones, etc) to keep them free of dust, dirt, etc. i spray mine once a week and you would be surprised at the dust that comes out of the slots. electronics are a dirt, dust magnet. happy to see you both had a wonderful thanksgiving. much ✌️❤️😁😎 Robin
Robin, thank you so much, yes we got very luck both times. Thanks for the suggestion on the air, I have had a can on my walmart cart list for a while, I need to just get one. I can't believe how expensive they are but clearly it's better than the alternative outcome 8) We apprecaite your support as always. Kyle and Michelle
Goodness guys, glad you escaped a bad fire. Thank goodness for your knowledge and Rob’s help. We always just called it banana wafer pudding but when I see it now i’m going to think plop plop 🤣🤣🤣.
Glad you are ok and your home is safe. Also major props on figuring out the auto switching on that ATS they are not easy to figure out. Small tip. If you use a filter like that green stuff you should add an extra pc fan to help pull the air through it. Manufacturers design airflow for equipment based on having free flowing air around the unit. Also, what happened to your XTAR dc converter for your Starlink. I remember seeing you install it and ordered and installed one for our roof mounted gen3. Hoping that it didn't cause you any issues.
Thanks for the tip on the fan, we actually have two additional fans pulling air at the "exit" end of the inverter, so hoping that will help pull air a little quicker through. As for the Xtar, no we had no problems with it, however the pepwave that we had (almost 5 years old) decided that it was done and so I have switched back to the Starlink router until I decide what to do about the pepwave. They are way to expensive to replace wit the same, but I really am looking to have the ability to combine the wifi from our hotspot and the starlink so that when I turn off the starlink at night we are still keeping the same coverage. Hope the Xtar is working well for you guys too.
@thewanderingshores wow the peplink went out that sucks. We use the max br1 5g ourselves. To my knowledge it's either peplink or winguard for combining services. The issue is that you run into ip conflicts when combining two service providers and you need a router that can generate it's own gateway routing matrix and all those are expensive, even the ones for rack mount systems. Either that or you need a windows server to handle the routing for you. Basically as a former IT i can tell you I have a peplink. I would probably just replace it even though they are expensive they probably are the best option.
Thanks Greg, so far (while it has only been a week) it has been working great. Here's the link incase you are interested in checking it out. amzn.to/3VwhPt9
Good to know, thanks for the tip! thanks so much, never even thought about checking there. We might be adding to our system a small 1000k inverter just the fridge so we will swing by and see what they have. Thanks again- Kyle
I have a 3K inverter also. And a 300W, and a 100W, *redundancy. Being kind of an electronics geek, I have collected lots of inverters over the years. LOL Have you thought about separating your fridge from the 3K inverter? I have a 12V fridge, but If I had a 120V fridge, I would think about putting it on its own (smaller) inverter. But I have very little 120V in my rig. 99% is 12VDC. Our inverter only gets turned on in the AM for the Keurig. But we don't have Starlink, yet. So our AC demand is miniscule. The main thing for us would be the fridge (food!!!). This incident just made me rethink a couple configurations. Glad it all worked out. Good to have friends close! Cheers! BTW: I assume you guys have a smoke detector. Question: Did that inverter blow a fuse or breaker? That much board-fry seems like it should have tripped something rather than just sounding its alarm.
I like the idea about just having a smaller inverter for the fridge the effiency would help to lessin power loss too. Plus it would give us an inverter to use incase of a situation like this. Yes we do have a smoke detector (actually two) and we also have a auto fire estinguisher under where the batteries are that will auto activate incase of a fire too. We have a 300 amp fuse on the inverter, but I'm guessing it was not enough to trip it. Thanks again for the feedback. PS did you see the info on the 80amp charger that I replied?
David, thanks for the feedback. It's been working very well for us. And yes, we're lucky we didn't have more serious trouble. Here's a link to the ATS that we got and so far a week in has been working really well
How are you handling the converter (charger) when on inverter power now that you have an ATS and its less manual of a process? Forgetting to turn off or remove power from the converter is a massive cyclical waste of battery power.
Ya you are 100% correct, so what we have done is make the generator our #1 power option (on the ATS), but we have left the circut breaker for the converter in the off position. When I go out to start the generator, I will then come back in and flip the converter on (to charge the batteries), we then leave the fuse panel door open so thate we remember we did that and then just the converter off before going back to plug from the generator after we are done using it. So far that has been working for us, forgot one time to flip it off and quickly realized by looking at the shunt display that we were pulling all kinds of amps from the battery but didn't have anything running.
@@thewanderingshores that works. another ATS or 120v AC relay can be used to cutoff the power to the converter (between converter and it's breaker in the panel) if you want to make more changes.
@jasonb9913 yeah my buddy Rob told me that on this ATS that I have. It looked like there was a relay that I could set up as well but not really familiar with that process so probably just go the manual route for now 🙂

True, luckily that was included in November budget 😀
