Keep the no info, off limits as soon as the lakes are announced, one livescope transducer, everyone has the same amount of inches of screen, Let people know when a rule has been broken and the penalty, and make sure that the rules are enforced. Best pod cast. Today is Wed. Hoping for rule enforcement, screen size limits (aka the amount of inches allowed on boat), limit to 2 transducers and FFS limited to 50% of tournaments.
dude i watched your vid yesterday, then seeing scott post about your swimbaits was freaking awesome haha. keep up the hard work. cant wait to hear this pod
Great show. I think there should be no information, off limits start January 1 of season, FFS limited to 2 transducers and no more than 5 screens max of 60” total. I would like to see a 12 event season split into 3 segments, prespawn , spawn, post spawn (or something similar)One segment each month 4 back to back. That could allow for a west coast swing possibly. Field should be 100. Split field so day one 50 fish 4 hours in am & 50 fish 4 hours in pm. Next day field flips fish time. Could do 3 day tournament and entire field fish’s all 3 days or do 4 days all fish first 3 days and day four top 10 fish for 8 hours. Just my thoughts. I like the idea of whole field being live-streamed everyday of event.
really good listen! I am weirdly curious and would love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting tomorrow! Got a few questions for you guys...****sorry this response got a bit long!**** -When BASS said that everyone would get TV time at least once, did they say that would be an every year thing or just that year to try to rebuild the brand? -Along the exposure lines, I usually go straight towards the angler columns when I'm on the site. Does BASS reach out to the anglers to see who would want a column or is it on the anglers to request to do a column? While it feels like half the time they drift into a sponsor plug or 5 I feel like you actually get a feel for someone's personality there too. -I agree with you guys that the infractions should 100% be put up for the public to see. Like both of you mentioned it doesn't need to be super detailed just the infraction and penalty! -Has the payout structure ever come up in these meetings? I mean other than everyone getting a check but more like a guy who misses out on Sunday by an ounce gets paid the same as the guy who finishes 50th and barely made the cut? That always felt off to me. Selfishly as far as scheduling goes I would love to see more events! And I mean a lot more, really lean into it more like a PGA type of schedule. For me, I pay a lot closer attention when your events aren't as spaced out, this ICAST break kills me every year and I almost forget that you guys are still heading up north to close out the year. So to fix that I've devised a plan for the new schedule to better fit my needs and not necessarily the financial needs of lol: -break the country down into areas where you can reach 3 lakes without a ton of travel...say like maybe 6 hours (closer the better) from lake to lake. You hit 3 lakes in 3 weeks then get 2-3 weeks off before the next group of 3 tourneys. Depending on how you want to route the schedule across the country would determine the length of the gap. -To give people extra time to get from A to B you could turn Monday into a "travel/off" before official practice starts on Tuesday (I know this cuts off a day of practice that some people love). If the first 2 lakes a a bit farther apart the 1st tourney could move to be a Wed-Sat Tourney to allow for the extra travel in between and have Sunday and Monday to travel. - Mixing in the 3on/2off and 3on/3off you can start at the end of Jan. or first week of Feb and still finish a 15 or 18 tournament schedule by the end of August or early September. ----Holy crap 18 events!?!?! I know its a lot and this is where I bring in the PGA aspect. They don't play every week, so lets just say that you need to participate in either 75 or 80% of the schedule to be eligible for the AOY. So lets say they do a trip out west and you don't want to make the trip, you just take those as your 3 off tourneys and get an extended break but that would be the nice part for the anglers is that they could kind of customize their schedules. Maybe only fish the first 2 of one group and the second 2 from the next group to extend your break...or if you are on a heater you just keep fishing and maybe hit all 18. The one caveat I would add is that you aren't allowed to skip the same Area in back to back years just so that fans might be able to catch you every other year. Again, this scheduling idea was drawn up in my head purely for my entertainment and I feel like it would keep me a LOT more engaged in the tourney scene! You could also add a whole bunch of wrinkles into the Fantasy Fishing contests with this type of scheduling and possible drive more engagement there too. There were no considerations to the financial aspect of doubling the schedule for either anglers or BASS😆
I could get on board with more events. - less practice time and more events. Average angler can’t relate to 4 days of practice before an event. We have to figure it out that day (or over the course of 4 days if a fishing trip) We don’t want to just see you reel them in… we want to see the process, the decisions, etc while you figure them out
What I would like to see. A limited number of events to use FFS, would be really cool if the angler got to choose which ones. But from a fan's point of view, I'm tuning out when everyone is just staring at screens. Also, the season ends way too early. Seeing you chasing fish in the fall when they start feeding hard would be great. And would be nice if there was some sort of special event to end the season, sort of like a playoff for the last spots into the classic. I think there was something like this in the past.
Me personally as guy who has active target, I don't watch the tournaments anymore just because of my style of fishing I don't enjoy it anymore because you don't see the Rick Clunns, Jimmy Houston etc. ripping baits, to me it is boring and not as exciting. I had one of the most exciting days fishing with live after catching 40+ good fish on a massive bait ball I mean what a day in a spot on my home lake I've fished since I was a kid and would've never fished this spot just happened to turn towards them landing a fish to stay out of the rocks. I follow the guys like you and a handful of others on social media that I want to see just because they don't normally show the traditional fishing anymore. I've also witnessed on my lake when you ping towards good fish they scatter.
Great show love Pat. I will say those 2 anglers didn't break any rules. This sport is hard which you know. Let it go they were smart had the money. Even with the info it doesn't change the fact those guys are great anglers.
This great to hear the story of a angler! That Doesn't get alot of attention! If that makes sence ?Great dude < Like his Attitude! Good luck pat ! Peace tray and Christopher
Penalties should be set into groups or classification this is the penalty and maybe the anglers put in suggestions for each level - tiered FFS should be limited to some degree. Every other tournament, every other day but not or not championship day. Something so we can watch guys still figure it out. More fun to watch
Pat is awesome and this was a great pod cast. accountability and consequences of actions is big to keep the integrity of BASS. if not your no better then the other league. I really like you guys please don’t forget that right now you are where you’re at because you sell equipment. FFS is a big sales, along with rods, baits, boats etc. most of your customers do not tournament fish. you should really be looking at big picture and growing sport. don’t be like the WNBA and be to stubborn to change and grow. keep up the great Pod Cast!
Finishing 2nd is still a nice check. Chris, I'm curious. Is it a mandatory thing to have a brand new boat for the following year? Is that boat sponsor driven? If there is no major changes with boat models, seems like it would be a heckuva lot less stressful to not have that time consuming task of getting and rigging a brand new boat...
It’s a way a lot of anglers make money. They get the boat at a discount or for free and then sell it at the end of the year and can pocket the cash. Some anglers who don’t have the best deals are better suited to run a boat two years. It depends on the situation.
I want a hybridization in the schedule with FFS, No information from the time the lakes are released. Don't care about limiting units size or how many. I also would like a set punishment for every rule in the book and an angler panel of current anglers and former anglers for any other questions
Dude that’s crazy.. cutting trees down has been going on. This dude on the river I fish cut a tree down to open up an area to fish off the bank.. crazy shit!!
Yeap getting stuck in a rut or as you call funk sucks but it will pass. Just keep fishing! I don't fish tournaments but I'm out in my kayak fishing couple days a week all year long. I had best year of my life last year fishing, beating my PB multiple times & killing it with big swimbaits. This year I've been getting my ass kick, really hard!!! Last summer my 3 biggest largemouth was 8.6 - 9.3 & my current PB an 11.4 So far this year I've only hooked into 2 fish about 8lbs & one pulled off, other jumped off within last 10' of the fight so close to the kayak! Still hurts to think about. I know just gotta keep fishing & eventually it will turn around
I just finished binge watching all of the Bilge podcasts. Who else has a good fishing podcast? I’m looking for others, like the Zaldains, that take pride in quality audio. I can’t listen to podcasts with guests who sound like they’re talking on Mars talking through a potato tied to a shoe string.
The one thing I didn't hear at all in this discussion was Marshalls. Like Trait was mentioning, every sport has penalties. And who enforces these penalties? Referees, Marshalls, etc. Isn't that the point of having a Marshall in the boat? To enforce the regulations? Could B.A.S.S. take a closer look at how critical a role they could play. More Marshalls? One in every boat? $500 × 104 boats x 8 tournaments is $416K. Obviously cut day/championship day you have less Marshalls so less expense. I'm not a tournament angler. I fish a Toyota Owners tourney every year with a buddy, so there's alot of things I don't know about being a competitive angler, let alone a pro, but is this something that could impact things in a positive way moving forward for B.A.S.S. to look at along with a live streaming camera?
Why can BASS not seem to get it right..?..I cannot understand why they seem committed to actively covering and enabling some anglers to continue in behavior patterns that are negative for the brand. Great stuff Zaldains!!
I will start by saying I don't think they should go to all fish hooked in mouth. There's problems asking anglers to interpret if a fish is bedding or not. So I sight fish a lot and 90% of them you know right away. But sometimes it's hard to tell if a fish is bedding especially if you catch it fast. But even in practice it depends on how locked on the fish is and the lines get blurred when you add in fry guards especially when the fry is too young to see.
BASS needs to realize that if there is money involved, people are going to cheat. The public knows this and if there is never reprimand on the anglers then people will know your business is NOT legitimate. We don't want people to cheat but we also don't want it hidden from us. Plus there needs to be suspensions for repeat violation.
I have a dumb question. I’ve always known about the group of guys that have a dually/fifth wheel set up and stay on the road for 1-2 months at a time. But I’ve always thought the guy’s wife drove one rig and the pro drove another. How is Pat getting around with a camper and boat? Does he have another driver with him?
I'm an instant fan of Pat! Sending love your way brother

30:59 so how about if less than 6ft of water? Or 3ft or however much it has to be in the mouth?
Great show
Pat is awesome and this was a great pod cast. accountability and consequences of actions is big to keep the integrity of BASS. if not your no better then the other league.
Making a " a jury of your peers" to adjudicate potential rule violations is spot on
Love your stuff Chris
Another Good show, I now a Fan of Pat
Oh to be a fly on the wall at that meeting coming up…
Boy, would I like to see the meeting videoed and put on youtube.
Great interview!
Schlapper is the shit he should really do more TH-cam vids
Same should apply in the opens!!
Good Stuff!
That was excellent.
What is the consequence at BASS if you cull a dead fish?
Finishing 2nd is still a nice check.
Chris, I'm curious. Is it a mandatory thing to have a brand new boat for the following year? Is that boat sponsor driven? If there is no major changes with boat models, seems like it would be a heckuva lot less stressful to not have that time consuming task of getting and rigging a brand new boat...
they have to sell it to maximize value from it
It’s a way a lot of anglers make money.
Hey Chris. I'm a big fan. Also a fan of Scott and the boys. Scott stays with 2 other anglers. Great guys. If they talk about practice is that legal.
I would love to see the season do some fall fishing
Dude that’s crazy.. cutting trees down has been going on. This dude on the river I fish cut a tree down to open up an area to fish off the bank.. crazy shit!!
Love you guys. Love California, too. Relax. ✌️
Last summer my 3 biggest largemouth was 8.6 - 9.3 & my current PB an 11.4
So far this year I've only hooked into 2 fish about 8lbs & one pulled off, other jumped off within last 10' of the fight so close to the kayak! Still hurts to think about. I know just gotta keep fishing & eventually it will turn around
So what do ya'll think of the new Rules 😂
I just finished binge watching all of the Bilge podcasts. Who else has a good fishing podcast? I’m looking for others, like the Zaldains, that take pride in quality audio. I can’t listen to podcasts with guests who sound like they’re talking on Mars talking through a potato tied to a shoe string.
Great guy good show
The one thing I didn't hear at all in this discussion was Marshalls.
If you are worried about the conservation of the bass go to catch and release like MLF.
No FFS at All Period!!!!!!!!!
BASS needs to realize that if there is money involved, people are going to cheat. The public knows this and if there is never reprimand on the anglers then people will know your business is NOT legitimate. We don't want people to cheat but we also don't want it hidden from us. Plus there needs to be suspensions for repeat violation.
Just have a personal that knows the rules. Keep the call outs out of the anglers hands. It will slow down the men being mad at each other
I want to see bas master require showing the anglers live scope view. Make it mandatory
Ban it!
Agreed. No screen share, no camera time imo.
Love the podcast. Do not care for FFS and I don’t pay any attention to Bassmaster or MLF anymore.
It’s a truck bed camper.
