Pixel Dust on RGB Matrix displays

  • Our pixel dust library for Arduino was an easy port to these RGB matrices - this is a 32 x 64 matrix with a Feather M4 + RGB Matrix Featherwing for easy wiring. An accelerometer is used to determine the tilt and then some particle physics math draws the pixels as if they were reacting to gravity. Also looks nice with some black LED acrylic on top!

In 1975 when I was 12, I made an LED blink with a 555 chip and I thought I was smart. Now this happens. I guess we've come a long way since then. Imagine where we'll be in another 45 years.

I did this with some TTL logic gates and resistor-capacitor pairs for timing in 1990, so not much changed in those 15 years. It is incredible what is accessible to make today.
Edit: this is years old?? Sorry about that and thanks, YT!

Well, this demo is mostly software, so there is the big difference. Still some hardware, but the logic itself has moved on to software.

@@roygalaasen He must be the top of the class genius to use 555 in 1975 when he was 12 (it came out in 72 by the way), and you must be the bottom barrel if you still use TTL logic gates in 90s.

@@XiaZ So a 12 year old can’t use a 555? Young people can’t be smart? I made my first computer game when I was around that same age, and I had no one around me that had any kind of knowledge of computers, so I was alone on my journey to learn things. And I was really thirsty for knowledge, on top of having a strong intuitive sense of how things worked on the bottom level. Think what a child with support can do if heshe is determined enough to learn? I find totally plausible that this person you criticise actually did work with electronics at that age.
Him for getting the date wrong? Boohoo, that far back anyone’s recollection gets a bit blurry, so he’s excused.
Regarding TTL being outdated in the 90’s? It may not have been the hottest thing at the time, but still an excellent learning tool for boolean logic. Also, I saw TTL components in electronic equipment all the way up to at least 1997-ish. MC68000 may have been the bomb in late 80’s early 90’s, yet you found the CPU in elevators and printers and other things till late 90’s still.
By the way. Electronics courses were available at school for any kids aged 13 and up at the time for anyone interested, it is not that far fetched, so not sure you are going off on such a tangent about his age.

Such a cool gadget/toy/art piece. I love it. The plastic gave it a lovely haze too, and reminded me of that pleasant warm fuzz while gaming on old crt monitors & televisions.
