I got a pack of pink army men a few years ago, I'm just waiting for the orange soldiers to become available then I'll truly have all the colours. I don't have many oranges soldiers at all. I also only have a handful of grey police action figurines. Next year I'm getting a big order from BMC toys, I can't wait to open my parcel all the way from America. I've noticed they now do army women too!!!!
I think you're right about the guy with the outstretched arm originally holding a grenade. The dead giveaway is that he's wearing what looks like a grenade pouch on his right side! But I think what happened is that, over time, the grenade was eliminated because the figure is more useful without it ( you can have him giving orders,standing sentry duty,etc.) I like these Tim-Mee guys because they are good all-purpose soldiers,and also because they include a heavy weapons squad; the machine-gunner,mortar operator,flamethrower,and bazooka man. Most sets of toy soldiers usually don't include the heavy stuff. A nice touch! I ordered some of the pink guys because of the offbeat color---I'm tired of olive-drab!
I heard the backstory is in the early 70s they made them pink because of anti-war feelings, and pink made them look cuter. I bought a bag of these and I am still waiting on them to come in but I think they look great~
Timmee Toy army men have a softer bendable plastic which make them very durable. They are robust and nicely detailed and are just like the 1970's. Then there were copies that were almost as good. and then a copy of a copy and were getting shorter, thinner with mold seams, less detail and breakable. They were a mere silhouette shadow of their former self. I had a dollar pack and it even had recycled plastic pieces with different colored plastic and other fillers and they unraveled and broke where the different plastics didn't bond to each other.

These seem to have been a one-off, or maybe an error, or an attempt to market army men in a period when military toys were unpopular.

I wish they made purple and pink cause choices are fun.
