Thank you for your wonderful explanation. It seems it‘s a very introverted society and when we visited I felt very at peace and refreshed. As a sensitive person, it was a beautiful country to visit. 😊
Despite being a foreigner, I can strongly relate to this sentiment of finding human relationships tiring, precisely because I always feel the need to "read the room" and try to prioritize others. Therefore, I also tend to immerse myself in my own world when possible and like being alone most of the time. I think this is one of the reasons why my year in Japan was one of the most precious memories in my life. For the first time in my life, I felt comfortable in not being forced to socialize, and everyone was always very respectful of personal space. I hope that one day I can get the opportunity to return for a couple of years.
I am living in Japan for one year now. I feel two ways here. Some persons are very nice and welcoming (mostly elders) and I mainly try to speak broken Japanese and avoid english. But I see many young Japanese don't want to talk and don't make eye contact. I don't know why. As a young person, I thought the opposite would happen. Anyway, children are always curious and often smile. So now if I need help in any situation, I usually approach to older japanese person or any foreigner.
Hello from Finland. ❤ We have a similar habit here, as Finns do not greet strangers nor do small talk. We give great importance to privacy and personal space, so our way of being polite (leaving you alone and not sitting next to you) will make outsiders think of us being rude.
Very interesting. I lived in Japan for 35 years, and I totally agree with your analysis. Most Japanese people are kind and polite, but it's difficult to connect on a deeper level.
As a half Japanese person & Nikkei but raised by Japanese aunt, this so true. I have both sides, being introvert & extrovert at the same time. I don't know much about human emotions & how to express it until i went to Austria, i saw people crying or very angry. I met other hāfu or Japanese, the men were more open than the women, they all speak English & German too. If i had the chance to go back i guess there are also things that Europeans can learn, we need a balance in this life. とても有用な情報を どうもありがとうございます。❤
I am from Russia, from Siberia, where people are generally very open and kind. But it has always been difficult for me to communicate with people. It’s much easier for me to talk with nature, animals, and being alone. I think I'm a little like the Japanese people. 😄 Thank you very much for the information on your channel! Subscribed.
I just got your channel in my feed. Your video on caring for your father was so good. Now this video is so good. The same thing is happening in the US but the reasons cannot be the same, so you have started me thinking. Happy New Year from a new subscriber.
very nice instructions i will come to live part time in japan and through your vlog i consider to offer seminars called "the weird thing between us two" (communication as i was european) ;-] i feel wonderful among japanese people, although i have not much language skills. my soul is japanese and i can understand this empathy-trap very well
I like to use the word “introverted” for Japanese culture. But perhaps this is too American? I’m introverted so I feel very comfortable in Japan. (I’m in Japan on a trip right now!)
1:54 "Which is tiring" I can't imagine being a very introverted person in Japan, that would really suck will all the crazy rules of how to talk to people and the kohai/sempai stuff and keigo. Quite glad that we don't have that in Sweden, then again we also don't really talk to people and small talk is non-existent unless you are a foreigner or just really extraverted. 3:47 "Various phenomena as Yokai" I really love the kappa, they are quite an interesting yokai. First learned about them thanks to Animal Crossing, quite fond of Kitsune also cause who wouldn't love an attractive fox lady (stuff like Monster Musume and no game no life really sold me on them).
not so different from our Malay culture in Malaysia..we read other people emotion and understand the mood before we talk, elders hierarchy including separate words adress to them, must contribute to community in social life, shame if a man dont provide , family MUST come first, and respect your leader as they know better..this make the society strong and orderly- yes, BUT its so tiring and exhaustion..
Been living here for more than 3 years, my dream was to make good relationships and friendship with japanese people, even though I tried my best to be able to do a daily conversation in Japanese hoping that it will be very important for me to make this relationship, I still don't have a true japanese friend yet. Most of them speak with me and take time in the conversation for the first time, but the next day I'll be just ghosted 😂 on the other hand, I get really good and warm treatment from elderly people, although I really appreciate it, i wish younger people could treat me the same way. But there are always exceptions and there are INDEED many nice people around 😊 I loved your content!❤
Having lived in Japan for 2 years I observed that even though a majority of Japanese maintain a sense of empathy, those who don't can cruelly exploit those who do. Those who can't stand their ground can be rubber mats for the insensitive people around them.
That would foreclear/explain why there is such an emphasis on artisan works in Japan. But might it relate to how & why Japan has become something closer to a cultural mosaic as opposed to a melting pot that it used to be, in contrast to both Koreas (where it's not uncommon for even major clans to be partly afterborn/descended of outlanders and/or native minorities such as Jeju islanders & Jaegaseung) nowadays?
There's a difference between politeness and shyness. When you close yourself off you become rude rather than considerate, it is no longer for the other person's sake. Extraversion is good, even if it is obstinate, because it creates opportunities, especially if well meaning and tempered with kindness.
Thanks a lot for your interesting thoughts. 😊 When I watch animes, manga or literature in general I see most of the times the hidden desires of japanese people.
The behaviour of Japanese forces in occupied Korea and China up to 1945 and their brutal treatment of foreign POWs including British and Americans ... does not seem to indicate a culture of empathy for others.
every culture in this world need islam.. islam purifies, beautifies and keep cultures in middle ground... if not culture from suspectible to become bad and extreme... look at the nature, in earth, we need trees, it help cleaning the air, strenghten the soil beneath, the rainforest where there's lots of trees, the weather mild there, eventhough the outside weather is severe human and cultures need God's guidance just like how earth need trees....
I'm sorry I totally disagree with you. You appear to be talking as though Japanese people are so superior in their ways. I'm sorry but I've lived and worked in Japan for over 20 years. I'm also married to a Japanese person. I've also lived in 14 countries around the world. So I can understand and compare cultures really well. The truth is.... 1. it is strict Japanese culture to not bother strangers. That's why Japanese people look at their smartphones etc. 2. Japanese people aren't sensitive people with empathy. In fact they are just as sensitive as other people in the world but much, much less empathetic. Especially towards foreigners who are seen as second class citizens in Japan. 3. Japanese aren't the only people in the world who are good with their hands. In fact other countries manufacture products that are far superior to Japanese products. That's why the Japanese economy is weak and the Japanese economy has been overtaken by China and soon India. 4. In more than 20 years here in Japan, I've NEVER heard a Japanese person comment about how wonderful insects sound😅 5. So you're day Japanese people have developed advanced communications with objects rather than people... you think that's a good thing? Then maybe you've accidentally explained why Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the developed world! I know for a fact that Japanese people struggling with stress cannot confide in others, this is definitely not a good thing! Perhaps Japanese people should learn to communicate better like people in the rest of the world! Chikako san, please be truthful and accurate when you make videos about Japan. Don't just try to glorify Japan in areas where Japan definitely doesn't deserve glory.
Hello there, I was wondering, if I can share with you the most important thing ever befoe in life. God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. Then He was put into a tomb for 3 days, after that Abba Father raised Jesus to life.He appeared to people, and went back to heaven. We all must sincerely receive Jesus into our life to be God's child. John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" Will you today genuinely by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?
Thank you for your wonderful explanation. It seems it‘s a very introverted society and when we visited I felt very at peace and refreshed. As a sensitive person, it was a beautiful country to visit. 😊

the younger people are often selfish.

@@Daisy_912 I agree. Many of the elderly are soooooo easy to talk to!

Nice to learn about this from an actual Japanese person!
I believe that was the best perspective of Japanese social behavior; it has made my understanding much more clear.

You really put some effort into this presentation. Thnx for sharing 😊!
Makes perfect sense. Cultures that encourage selfishness view relationships as something to exploit (such as forming networks to advance your career)
In Europe we should try to learn be more empathetic, more silent, more focused. Thank you 🙏
I've never felt more "seen" and understood than in Japan. Maybe because of that sensitivity to context.

At some point this means the only time anyone is completely comfortable is alone.

I super agree that balance is necessary. We all need each other.
Nice shrine/temple at 5:40, looks like a place I visited in Koyasan?
very cool, very informative. perhaps more on this "animism"?
Nice to know, thanks for the insight, now i have to consider these things when encountering someone like them 😊
Por esto siento afín esta cultura. Todo tiene vida. Tengo recuerdos de una vida allí. Gracias
I think I love the soul of the Japanese. I keenly feel it every time I watch an anime or feel it in their art.
どうしてチャンネルの中でこの動画だけが流行っているのでしょう?でもどの動画も面白そうなので、今度観るのを楽しみにします!英語の勉強には最強の練習ですね。Thank you for making such interesting videos :)

If reincarnation is true, I might be a Japanese in my past life.
Me too...
I have same type of character. That is why i feel good in Japan.
thank you.
Nice video!
