So glad to see Sanibel coming back. I love this island so much and really miss it. My heart breaks knowing some places were demolished and won't be back. Thank you so much for your video. Hope to be back soon down the way.😢❤❤God Bless.
This had to be difficult for you but for those of us who love Sanibel it was an education. If at all possible I will come back to support as much as possible. Thank you!
Man. Sucks to see, but after watching so many of these videos, it really is starting to come back to life. With the sand being removed and green vegetation coming back, its regaining some of its feel!
Thank you for seeing the small changes! I notice the green all the time. The drive between Sanibel and Captiva in particular. It was completely brown the first time I did it after the storm, but its coming back to life little by little.
Thank you, but it's too painful to see all this. We began coming to Sanibel in the mid-70s and came yearly. Naturally, we've seen a lot of changes but nothing comes close to this. First, we stayed at Shell Harbor Inn, then bought timeshares @ Surfrider and SBCII. Novembers we would drive up to West Gulf Drive and go to houses under construction, walking around the outsides, sometimes finding a way to explore the insides and dream, dream, dream of the day we would own one of the houses. Non timeshare weeks, we would come over and stay in different places for a week: Mitchell's Sand Castle's By the Sea and Gulf Breeze Cottages. I don't know if either of these is still standing but suspect probably not. We were at Shell Island II in June 2022 and that's the last we've been. It was always such a wonderful family time. My husband and I came over alone in the fall mid-70s, then brought the kids every summer. Then they grew up, married, brought their spouses, then their children who grew up, married, brought their spouses and now THEIR children. Almost fifty years of Sanibel, wonderful Sanibel.
What happened to the Sandbar Restaurant that was between Sande Point & Nutmeg Village? Are they going to rebuild it or is gone for good?? Sad if it is, we always ate there when staying at Sand Pointe. In fact we ate there back in May of last year before Ian.
@LindsayLola_ as almost every hotel on the islands they used to run deals for locals during the slow summer months. Now the best deal is "NO TOLL SUNDAYS" 😀

What a wonderful history you have with the Island! I hope you all can continue your memories and traditions.

I'm sorry I'm not aware of the plan for that restaurant
@@LindsayLola_ Thanks!
Are any of these condos/inns repaired and accepting guests?
Very few. The island inn was open.
There goes the West Wind with very good deals for locals during summer 😮💨
Say what….?

I was surprised to see he West wind was demolished. We’ve stayed there many times as well as Beachview Cottages. Both gone now. So sad.
