Well, friend, you either like the show or you don't..... I make these videos on the fly .... whenever the mood takes me and I do not rehearse them or look back..... some do well and some do not.... and it has nothing to do with stammering or stuttering..... the stupid Power Director program I use replaced an entire clip with 'green screen' and I just could not even be bothered to 'redo' it .... and yet amazingly it's got over 7000 views and still getting more..... while one of them I fussed over cant even get 100 views..... why should I care ?
Hei. Is it possible to save the samples in a Studio Set or per Song? I have not found any information about that in the tutorial. Thanks for your grat videos Mike
The Samples are automatically recorded on the Flash card in the slot and linked to the current SONG ...... samples are NOT connected with Studio Sets in any way
One huge caveat is that you cant preview the sample before you pressed truncate meaning if you have a beat that needs to be 100% in time you are lost after you pressed truncate
YES .... timing is a real problem with the "loose" way they have implemented "samples" Why can we not have normal audio tracks like a proper DAW ? I hate this sample nonsense .... moreover you cannot listen to samples while recording another sample ..... so quite useless for adding a vocal track to do a "double take". The point is Roland PREVIOUS "fantoms" from the years ago could do these BASIC operations ... so they are trying to deceive the public by using the word "sample" which most musicians associate with a "sampling keyboard" .... that can pitch a sample sound across the range of the keyboard
@@StephenMendes Yeah im currently trying to bring in my Kross 2 arrpeggios into my fa- sequencer since the arrpeggios from Kross is kinda hard to sync with Midi so i was pretty sure some sampling will do the trick. It works but not the best workflow
NO this is not possible....... Roland has been deceptive in the terminology, and it has caused much confusion...... this NOT a "sampling keyboard" ....... it records AUDIO CLIPS that can only be triggered from the pads..... it does NOT record "samples" for use as keyboard tones.
You can get a "Pad triggered vocal track" synced with your music (if it's out of sync) by moving the "trigger" along the MIDI timeline .... using the MIDI Event Editor (which Roland calls a "Microscope").. I really cannot understand why Roland did not simply allow standard audio tracks as well as MIDI tracks like what you would expect in a Workstation.... the whole idea of triggering audio clips with pads IS a potential source of timing errors (that takes lots of time and fiddling to correct)..... and calling it a "Sampler" is very disingenuous .... because all musicians know that term as referring to an instrument that allows you to create your keyboard tones (patches) from sampling short acoustic sounds and then pitching them all across the entire keyboard.
an important question. Can you microphone record yourself singing for about three minutes, about the length of an average song, by connecting a microphone to Roland and recording directly to daw software?
Yes you can do that ... actually I have a video to show you that ...... but if your microphone has an XLR connector you should use a transformer to give you the 1/4 inch phone plug .... watch this video th-cam.com/video/pH9f6w1e3IU/w-d-xo.html
Hello, is possible to record a midi musique. Then record audio tracks (on pads?) with voices from the micro input of the FA 06? Or is it possible to record midi and Audio tracks? Thank you.
YES you can record MIDI into sequencer ..... and yes you can record audio into pads.... and yes you can record voices from the GUITAR/MIC input (but NOT the 3.5mm line jack) ..... but you CANNOT record MIDI and audio "tracks" together like a normal DAW would do...... the biggest problem with the FA-06 is that when you record an audio clip you CANNOT playback any other clips at the same time ..... which is insane ..... and ultimately creates all kinds of TIMING ERRORS between the various "sample pads" (difficult and time consuming to correct) ...... this keyboard CANNOT replace your DAW unfortunately..... and I am very disappointed over that fact .
Are you able to sample other hardware like an MPC or tr808? I’m looking for something similar to an Ensoniq ASR-10 but I’ve been coming short. Thank you
NO ..... you are not able to "sample" with this keyboard.... shame on Roland for using ambiguous language to mislead the public..... what they call "samples" on this keyboard are what, in any DAW, is properly referred to as "AUDIO CLIPS" ........ this is NOT a "sampling" keyboard and it does NOT contain a "sampler" ..... I was a fan of Ensoniq (Mirage and later models) ... I was initially fooled by Roland forked-tongue language also...... fortunately this keyboard has other things that I like, so in spite of my disappointment over this, I still kept their product
Stephen Mendes thank you so much!! I thought so! Was wondering why I was unable to find any videos or info discussing the issue. Do you by chance know of any other modern keyboards with similar or the same sample capabilities as the Ensoniq Line? Thanks again for you help!

Hi Steven - Firstly - hope you're having a FA FA FANTASTIC WEEKEND! - Quick question for ya Mate - can the sample pads be used to select 'combis' during a live set - like on the Korg Kross? - All being well gonna be treating meself to one of these beasts as a Crimbo Pressy to make my live keys set up totally complete - just trying to get the funds together week by week! - Not easy to do when you're just a lowly Bin Man/Labourer in a factory - working on minimum wage - but determined to have the beautiful beast by Crimbo! lol x x x
I'm actually gonna be buying the FA-07 - Due to keyboard action/size ect - if it's half as good as my dear old Roland A30 Controller (Action Wise) then I will be a very happy ikoo Bunny - please let me know if any of yaz a've come across the FA-07 and have any comments / opinions on the key bed - I really appreciate it! - Have a Cracking weekend folks x x x
Not sure what you mean by 'Combis'.... the firmware upgrade now allows keyboard switch groups.... meaning a single pad can switch multiple layered(or split) tones at the same time...
thank you so much for tutorial Stephan! May I ask a question, my fa08 doesn't play my audio after I plugged in microphone,no sound , no any signal . Do you know why?
@@jajafan363 set the TFX location switch to MAIN (and set TFX to THRU) and then check the MIC REVERB level settings these are the only things that could disrupt the signal level as it makes it way to your main output
YES .... there is a GAIN knob on the back of the FA-06 near to the guitar jack ..... by adjusting that (and lowering your output level knob on the vk09) you should be able to get a clean sound without overload .... make sure the switch on the back of the FA-06 next to the jack is set to "Guitar" NOT "Mic" ... best wishes 🙂
HI stepphen thanks for your videos. just got a FA 08, Every time i record a song, it saves the patches as grand piano for all tracks. I put together a whole song with different tones and sounds but when i save the song it clears out all the patches and tones and makes them all grand piano, let me know what i am doing wrong or if any one else has dealt with this. supper frustrating to hear all your trackas changed after working all day on the recording.
You need to save the STUDIO SET .... BEFORE you save the song ..... press WRITE and select the STUDIO SET option, give it a name and save it... then save the song.... and you be good 👍
After you have finished recording .... you may go to the sample editor and loop the sample (for playback)..... but you cannot record in a loop (like a looper does) ...... you can only record in a loop with the MIDI sequencer .... but NOT with audio samples and the audio capabilities are VERY LIMITED.... you cannot playback samples while recording audio.... and syncing audio samples with the MIDI sequencer is a hit-or-miss affair .... unless you want to "fiddle" with the timing in the EVENT editor (called "Microscope")
The recorded samples automatically get saved on the usb flash... they are never stored in internal memory to get them on the computer you have to take out the flash card from the keyboard and put it in a flash card reader on the computer and transfer the file(s)

I wish many of the other contributors of videos like this, would be forced to have to watch YOURS, as a homework assignment, if you wish, to teach them the correct pacing when dealing with these complex keyboards of today.....to a man, they ALL rush too much, or assume too much, and consequently, do not end up with the sheer clarity that you have exhibited in this video. When you challenge them on this with a comment, they usually say " use the pause button", which is a poor excuse for them not doing this thing right in the first place. In your video , there is no such need for a pause button, YOU yourself pause, and/or repeat, and slowly and clearly....Can't thank you enough. Sampling has never been an easy thing, and I go back to the old days of the Ensoniq Mirage!
Thank you for your work. It takes dedication and effort to share your knowledge with us and I do appreciate it. Keep them coming, please!
