Your videos saved my life man. Conga playing has brought so much joy in a very dark time. It’s my escape and you make the learning process much easier. You might not think so, but your content makes the world a better place. God bless, keep the faith, keep grinding jefe.
That’s cool. It’s more beat-centric than most things I play. I’ve been playing with very small combos with no drummer and this would a great coherent glue to keep those instrumentalists in place.
Happy New year oxox all the best stay safe in this crazy covid world another great rhythm bro i don't know if you can understand this system of writing rythms down but it sounds a little bit like a bell pattern that i like playing i will write it down down in long hand but usually i abreavate it it is based on the a djembe method of writing rythms down rhythms here goes hope it makes sense 2 you and goon ta pa doon go do or bass slap slap bass tone tone bass slap slap bass tone tone first i played it on djembe than put it on 3 congas the bass tones are all on the tumba and conga all tones and slaps are on the quinto but you need 2 get the fraseing right hope someone can figure it out thanks 4 another great oxo
SIgh, how do you get that tone? I'm a drummer the rhythms are no mystery nor difficult to copy, but that tone.. when I play conga it sounds like congas in Africa in the 50's, like a conga djembé, to get anywhere near a slap sound I have to make huge hand movements and go to the edge..and here I'm looking at you play and it looks like you're just playing tones but slaps appear in between and it's just the slightest angling of the hand. I'm trying to replicate it on my conga.. but no go.. I don't get it.
This is hard, it takes time and practice. The real obstacle is your fingertip strength. If you strike the drum and cause the head to vibrate it makes a tone. If you want to make that tone higher, you need to make the drum smaller, or the drum head tighter. Imagine when you play a slap, that you are pressing your fingers onto the head of the drum enough to cause the vibration of the head to bounce back towards the rim. Eric has shown exercises in prior videos that I used to increase my fingertip strength. I found the slap the same way you did, once your fingers are strong enough, you can make similar sounds with small efforts.
@@apolloragames8270 Aha thanks, so you only get that when you get those fat leathery conga hands through years of playing? :p Is there some minute muting going on with the fingers? Like say playing a pinch harmonic on a guitar? as I can get higher slap sound out of the drum when I leave my other hand to rest on the skin.. Or sometimes when my pinky and ring finger reach the skin before the rest which results in the head being struck and very quickly muted and released again and a higher harmonic that appears.
Here's the deal with all your videos which I enjoy and I learn a lot from but anytime I start one of your videos I skip all the way to the middle of it to get past all of your endless yammering before you finally start playing the drum. You could drop about 75% of that monolog and and just get to the meat of the issue, play the drum.
Camera angles and colors are fantastic. Looks old school cool. Candido, The Thousand Finger Man style.
En espera!!! Feliz Año 2022.

@@apolloragames8270 I guess not as when I look at the video he looks as flat as can be.. maybe that's the problem I don't get things lined up right.
