- At the Sammy Hagar and the Circle concert at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, Ca 9/27/2019 - Jason Bonham talks about his father John Bonham and to never giving up on your dreams and playing with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Vic Johnson.
Talk about full circle, My very first concert was Led Zeppelin, 1977 at the Oakland Coliseum with my buddies Mike Sommer and Jon Anderson.
This is such a tight group with an incredible front and back catalog. God bless these guys.
Every country Loved Led Zeppelin!!! 42 years after their last performance, no band has ever charmed the world in such a way.
Uh, I would agree with your comment, except there’s a group also from England. lead singer is Mick Jagger and the guitar player name Keith Richards. Mick turned 79 on July 26, and Keith will be 79 on December 18. I’m sure you’ve heard of them. They’ve been touring the planet since 1962 and just finished their European tour for 2022. I seriously think these guys are loved as much if not more. Plus they haven’t quit performing together in 60 years.
@@EvilJester119 Don't get me wrong. I love the Stones and their entire legacy. But I'm sure the most die-hard stones fans would rather see one last Zeppelin reunion than yet another Stones concert. I think the Stones will still be touring when my grandkids are 50. And that's a long time. I don't think Page will be around much longer, goddamn me for saying that, But I fear its true.
Scott - I saw the Stones in 1975 at the old Chicago Stadium. Honestly, they should have hung it up years ago. They are living off an old legacy and brand and have become money grubbing whores. I have seen Zeppelin, AC DC, Queen, Sabbath and others live. The stones are not in the same league. Richards is an average guitarist and definitely no Jimmy Page and Jagger is no Plant or Mercury. They are actually an embarrassment, and I am a fan. They sound terrible live these days. Mick Taylor was the best guitarist they ever have and Bill Wyman was a great bass player. Charlie was a great time keeper, but no Bonham. When you only have 2/5 of the original equation-it really adds up to ZERO. The Stones were always copying the Beatles and in reality that is who they wanted to be-but that will never happen no matter how long they play or record. I am sure they will still be touring one day in wheel chairs and walkers and the fan base will still buy the 'greatest band in the world' bullshit.
Carried me back ❤
Jason is rock royalty himself, and cool as can be he's humble.
I’ve been listening to the music of Robert, Jimmy, John Paul and Bonzo since the summer of 1972. My first concert was Led Zeppelin - June 07, 1977 @ Madison Square Garden in New York City. Still to this day 08-24-2022; 50 years and counting are my all time favorite band. Thank you for sharing this one.
That's awesome that you got to see the mighty Zeppelin way back then at Madison Square Garden!! Keep on Rockin Scott!!
My first concert was Led Zeppelin market square arena in 77....Blew my 12 year old mind....still does
The mighty Led Zeppelin still reigns 🤝👍👊🏻
These gentlemen are all class 💖🕊
That isn’t led zep lol
The very capable hands of Jason Bonham.
And Sammy seems to have the ultimate Rock voice. The man never disappoints.
Agree 100% 🎸🥁🎶🎵🤘
Two dudes from Van Halen and the son of John Bonham of Led Zeppelin 😳 WoW!!
And Vic .
I met and had a couple of pints with Logan Plant, Robert Plants son. Super cool and humble guy too.
sammy hagar is the best and most amazing rock n roll star today. He loves performing for anyone and everyone. keep rockin with sammy and the circle . special thanks to jason, vic. ,and anthony also
This is solid proof that Sammy Hagar, Jason Bonham, Michael Anthony, Vince Johnson are class acts to the damn max. No question. 😂 💕 😆 Lol.
Lot of people have forgotten how big Sammy's solo career was before Van Hagar. When Michael parted VH they couldn't cover his vocal range and Jason Bonham is a hard hittin fantastic drummer in his own right. If he had not used his last name he would still be a big time in demand drummer. He didn't make it because of his name he's his own man .
@@MAGAMANPATRIOT Yup and Anthony can't play base😏
@@redneckfarmer6584 I’d say he’s done pretty well for someone who can’t play bass. I’d trade places with him
@@100hooker I was being sarcastic 😂
@@redneckfarmer6584 oh ok got it. There are just a lot of people who think Mike was just a “Necessary Cog” in the Van Halen empire.
I love them all. And everyone who loves this music that is kind.
He's up in heaven saying that's my lad❤
A great song and great musicians still having fun doesn't get any better!!!!!!. Rock and roll forever🎸🎙👍☝👏💯
well said! cheers!
Have a beer and listen to the original. And thank you for the comment buddy
Great job guys and let's hear it for Vic what. a great guitarist!!!!
It’s like a full circle, I remember buying the live concert The Song Remains The Same on cassette tape and hearing this song then and here it is again with Jason Bonham on drums 40 years later with Sammy on vocals. Damn I’m showing my age now, 54 to be exact.
Todd, I'm right there with ya, lol! I purchased The Song Remains The Same on 8 track cassette and would crank the car stereo at the motocross races in between motos. Those were the good Ole days. I was lucky enough to attend a Led Zeppelin concert back in 77 and now to with Jason Bonham, is truly a Full Circle!! 🎸🎸🥁🎸🎵🎶
I remember my older brother had a rock magazine. I don’t remember which, but in one of the bubbles it said “the American answer to Led Zeppelin, this band can do everything.” It was talking about Montrose. Seeing this collaboration years later is a treat. Totally badass.
Jason Bonham such a blessed humble person himself and Sammy's great for jamming with him!!!
Saw them in Philly a few years back and I can't explain the sound and power I heard coming off of Jason's kit as he was playing, amazing and unmatched
The Circle in one word "Awesome "
Jason Bonham and Michael Anthony...amazing. Nothing against Vic - an amazing guitarist in his own right. I wonder what it would have sounded like with Satriani on guitar..
I think Joe Satriani was at one of the Sammy Hagar Birthday bashes down in Cabo. Joe is an amazing guitarist, and I have seen him in concert as well.
Man I was at this show and these guys gave us all the feeling that they were playing in the backyard just for us. They crushed it! Thanks for sharing.
Yes, that show was awesome!! I have always wanted to see Jason Bonham play the drums live. I was fortunate to see Led Zeppelin in the Bay Area back in 1977 at the Oakland Coliseum, was my first concert.
he was trained at home, LOL
Hagar has a big enough voice to cover this song right. Good version of a classic Zeppelin tune! 👏🏻🎸😎
Sammy needs to change the key.Long way from Plant!
Saw them in St Louis 2022 awesome show
If Sammy is involved you know he's bringing the best with him love you guys
MA the unsung hero to all of the VH harmonies!
Simple rule: If you want a great harmony vocalist, get someone who was the lead singer back in his early career. 🤷🏻♂️
The whole bands just awesome!!!
Bonzo looking down proud of Jason ❣️
Led Zep & Sammy 🌟❤️💫
THANT WAS VERY GOOD
Led Zeppelin will live on forever and ever, HAMMER OF THE GODS !!!!!!!!!!!! Worlds GREATEST BAND EVER
I have never seen them playing together , I think it's awesome
I always like it when people that are icons themselves go to Zeppelin. I just watched a Zakk Wylde interview where he said that a Dr. told him he stop drinking and live to listen to his Zepp and Allman recordings or die. Well-- he's been sober for a long time now.
I've been sober for 10 yrs now but I wish I could play like him !
Guitar work is pretty damn good 👌
They should tour they would sell out 🤪🤪🤪
I like Vic but I prefer his hard rock/metal playing. His blues and rock & roll stuff is good but has a more modern feel which doesn't resonate with me.
I pray you guys keep having fun playing together for a long time. Keep on rocking in the free world guys.
I saw Jason Bonham, his first band, their album was The disregard of Time Keeping ( I think🤣) They played in a bar called Babe's in Austin Tx, such a great band, album., of course they played Black Dog, other's of course, but it was loud, was standing room only!! Great night, first time I ever got to see Jason Bonham. He had a great band then, all of them class act. These guys all pros, doing it for the fans, playing Zep music, doing it with the heir apair!! Can't go wrong!
Jerry, what a great story! It's great to hear them. I was grateful to see Jason's dad John play with Zeppelin back in 1977 at the Oakland Coliseum.
@@markdrebert247 Yeah, I saw the same tour. Their last in America anyway. I saw them April 03, 1977 at the Myriad. It was their 2nd, or 3rd show for SRTS. It was awesome. Best show ever. They were so humble, rocked, did the acoustic set also, during Going to California Robert sang Going to Oklahoma with an aching in my heart. The Myriad was packed, most of my family, friends were there. It seemed like everyone stood up almost the entire time. Great show. I did see Jimmy Page after LZ. First at Ronnie Lanes(ARMS) benefit for Ronnie Lane. Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Paul Rogers from Bad Company, Andy Fairweather Lowe, many others. Steve Winwood was not there. They saved Jimmy for last as it was his first time back in the states after John Bonham died. Everyone stood up the entire time. Then they all came on at last. All the guitarist in the Yardbirds together. It was awesome. It also became the vehicle for Jimmy, Paul to later form the Firm. ARMS was in Dallas in like 1982,83. I saw the Firm later 3 times!!!
Sammy can sing anything and make it sound great!
Vic Johnson is a badass
Papa would be proud. Great cover by all.
Fantastic Job
Thanks for the Damn great footage!! If this didn’t make ya want to rock and roll something wrong with ya!! Loved it!!
Thanks David! Rock on!!
Super cool how MA came in on the lead vocal
This must off been a great performance to see live.
Never seen this one before, what a treat!
He is the Prince...the King's Son🤍
AMEN TO THAT, JASON IS ONE BAD ASS !!!!! BONZO IS THE BADDEST ASS EVER !!!!!
🤘🏼💀🤘🏼 🔥. 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
PURE FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Excellent video
Nice. Rock n Roll.
This is funny. I wish I saw "" Bonham "" when he came to Tampa in 1989.
Jebus Crust, the idea that a musician could download a song on his phone in his car and be like " yeah I got this". 🤯
John was a rock and roll powerhouse, Jason filled those shoes and more.
I saw his band Bonham open for the Cult back in the 80's.
He played an electronic drum pad with a broken right hand if I remember correctly.
Drummers that play injured with the mentality the show must go on aren't given enough credit. I attended a Perfect Circle concert where the drummer had a broken knee and sounded amazing 🥁🥁
Loved it!!!!!
love it Great band..
Vic Johnson so underated
Love him playing stairway to heaven with the Wilson sisters...or Kashmir with them and led Zeppelin
Zeppelin has always been cool and Sammy
My first concert ever was Led Zeppelin 1977 Oakland Coliseum 🎸🥁🎸🎶🎵
I’d love to see DLR try this. Oh wait! He can’t.
DLR hasn't been able to sing for around 20 years. Sammy is older and still got it
@@Lemopalm Sam was smart, and took care of his voice. Dave wishes he had... Too much screamo vocal work, and too many shots of J.D. on stage... Tore him up.
Interesting bit of trivia that the older folks might remember... this is the first song Sammy did with EVH (at farm aid 1985 or 1986..) and led to his invitation to join VH..
That is interesting! I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing that! 🎸🥁🎸🎸🎶🎵
Look at Sammy Hagar up there singing this song at 71 better than 90% of the singers half that age 😉
These Two Crack me up!!!!!!
Never give up on ur dreams...
Whole step down is an old singers best friend. ;)
Hi Hccarder, forgive me but what is the Whole step down mean? I'm not a singer so I don't know. Thank you.
@@markdrebert247 a whole step down refers to the pitch the song is played at, if the song was originally played in the key of A, when played a whole step down its played in the key of G etc
@@genericslashfan5392 OH! Yes, that makes sense now. Thanks!! 🎶🎵🎶
Age is the equalizer of humanity...
Been a minute since I 🪨🪨 n rolled.... 😆 XO 💕💕
Jimmy Page never played it the same twice live, either!
Rockin their asses off! Love it!
Sounds great and Jason is as good as his father was .
I've seen Jason more times than I can count with Virgina Wolf, Page's Solo Tour, Healing Sixes & JBLZE. Jason has become a damn fine player. Different than his Daddy but damn good in his own right.
he doesn't have the footwork his father had, but neither does anyone else. Jason is better than people think though. He can make any band better and that's what a good drummer should do
That note Michael hit was just unnatural
Interesting personnel situation 👈😎👍🇺🇲
MA could have been a lead singer
Maybe he was ina pre VH band.
He was a frontman when VH recruited him
Sammy is the Party, hes buying a new Ferrari."
WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HEAR THE ORIGINAL MONTROSE LINUP RECORD OR PERFORM A COVER OF "IN MY TIME OF DYING '
I just heard a Montrose version of Rock Candy live @ Record Plant on the Boneyard last week I've never heard before. It was pretty dang awesome I'm on a search for it. I'm sure its around somewhere.
Denny Carmassi came close. He actually played with Montrose and Coverdale Page. When Coverdale Page toured Japan they did perform IMTOD with Denny on drums!
Jason is Rock and Roll Jesus. The one and only son of a Rock and Roll God.
All these guys = 👍
Sammy Hagar = American Treasure
Awesome!👏💯🌟❤️👋
I think his last name helped him a bit to get in the band
Sam hagar can still wail ... he can still hold a note ..
A great one
I saw Zeppelin 4 times growing up, all East Coast shows. I KNEW then....I was witnessing musical history. I mean when you see Jimmy Page strumming a 12 string, and playing keyboards with his feet... Or Bonham using his head...on the Chinese gong behind him. Or Plant swinging the microphone around with about 15ft. of cord, strutting/pouting....and seering vocals. And Jones?; well- just a typical quiet bass guy.
Hi Tommy, that is amazing you have seen Led Zeppelin 4 times. I had the opportunity to see them just once and I'll never forget it. It was pure awesome!! 🎸🥁🎸🎵🎶🎤🎶
@@markdrebert247 And that was my 7th-10th. grade. Mark- it was MAGICAL. And with the passing of time and reference, what I witnessed has just grown. I DIDN'T know/realize the magnitude....then. "NOW", even more so. Their albums STILL hold up.
@@tommynikon2283 so true!!
And Vic lol they didnt even put the camera on him.
Not sure what happened with that introduction but Vic is a bad ass! I've seen him many times in concert with Sammy.
I know what you mean, I've seen him many times in concert including at the Cabo Wabo🎸🎶🎵🎸
Well that hurt .
Cell Video .
As good as the Zep tunes were, it's a pity there weren't more of them.
The amazing thing about them is that despite having relatively few songs recorded they still have more good and memorable ones than other bands that have 5 times as many total songs.
Hey not to be the negative prick, but every drummer who's a Bonzo fan knows that Jason isn't playing this anywhere near right. I'm not talking about the extra fills or whatever. I'm talking about the main groove of the song. Bonzo would ride the snare and hi hat with 8th notes the whole tune. The only band member who needs to sh%t their pants when "Rock n Roll" is called is the DRUMMER because of the groove of this song is INTENSE and unforgiving. Watch Bonzo play "Rock n Roll" live at Knebworth. You can clearly see he's riding both the hi hat and the snare drum THE WHOLE SONG
Too bad the bass player had no idea where he was supposed to be
IMO Sam should have played rhythm guitar on this
I have met Jason Bonham He is unbelievable a****** who isn't Rock royalty his dad was the Superstar and he's just coasting off his name
yet you spend your time watching videos featuring him
@@Cincinnatus1869 No I do not
@@timothyjackson3001 how then did you manage to leave the comment ? And how is playing in bands with Glenn Hughes and Sammy Hagar coasting off his dad's name? You don't get gigs with bands like the ones he's played with because they like his name.
@@Cincinnatus1869 scrolling through the homepage I Came Upon This video everybody kissing Jason Bonham's ass do I told it like I know it I met the man got him to autograph A zeppelin book I had and he was a f****** prick and like I said he's not rock royalty he's the son of rock royalty never had to work a day in his spoiled little life not once the idiot quit school cuz he didn't need it he had Daddy's Money so go ahead and defend dumbass like all you other idiots do all day everyday
Not such a great version but cool
Vic needs to play that one a little better if you ask me ,I can play it better than that!!!
The least Jason could do is play the song like his dad did. Not 1/4 notes on the hi-hats. I can do it at 57. No excuse.
Hagar the Horrible
what a shame
jason Bonham talks too much
Lol, For not being a public speaker, I think he did ok in sharing his dreams of playing with top notch musicians. 😉 🎵🎶🥁🎸🎸🎸
Hey lighten up I enjoy hearing Jason speak.
@@markdrebert247 He is a top notch musician. Sammy Hager said he was such a Zeppelin fan that he hired John Bonhams son to be the drummer.
@@christopherekin1747 I agree, Jason makes playing the drums look easy. I should practice a little more, lol..
Yuk
Translate to English!?! Jason's an average drummer at best!
That is awful
Ohh for god sakes! This was for Jason as he was young when he lost his dad.
No one can copy LZ.. but Sammy lets Jason be himself.
@@jayannakelley9051 how long are you going to let Jason skate off his dads name? Because at his best he's an average drummer and on his own we would've never been heard of. Also when was he this hotshit motorcross racer? Because from the time he was born he's been a soft overweight kid and i haven't see any over weight motocross racers End of story please!
@@johncaldwell643 - I don’t know anything about Jason racing motor cross. First I’m reading about it. I know he’s definitely not his dad & I didn’t claim he was the ‘best drummer’.
You’re reading a whole lot into my simple little comment that I didn’t say!
@@johncaldwell643 1st of all he will out drum you any day. He has drummed for several bands including, Page, Zepp, Virginia Wolf, Foreigner, Bill Joel and Sammy's circle. He did race for team Kawasaki in England John Bonham was one of the main sponsors at the time.
@@johncaldwell643 Sammy has also said in several interviews that Jason is the best drummer he has ever played with. Yes that means better than Alex. I have seen both several times and agree.
