Planning for a trip to Oshkosh 2021

- I'm heading to Oshkosh on my bike, to Airventure 2021, which is the largest gathering of aviators in the world.
The video of my visit there in 2019 is called Warbird Jets.
This trip will include three adventures: the way there, the Oshkosh fly-in, and the journey back.

A three week bike trip. Now that's awesome! I also prefer the quieter roads as there is more to see. Local cuisine from a local restaurant is a great way to mix with the locals. Enjoy your well deserved break and ride safe! 🇬🇧
the new Airventure slogan: "Better than Disneyland, and less puking on the rides!"... have fun! I can't attend this year, but hopefully will be back in 2022.
we stop in mom and pops for two reasons. one: more of the money we spend ends up in the local community.
second: sometimes the food might be mediocre, but sometimes the food is amazing. my favorite thing to do at a local restaurant is to tell the waiter/manager/owner my general likes and have them order for me. sometimes I'll get something that isn't even on the menu.

I was going to say, going to Oshkosh an touring motorcycle is the second best thing to flying there. But I guess in many ways it is even better. You have more time to enjoy the scenery, you don't have to deal with the stress of the huge pile-up on the air arrival. Either way, I envy you and all the lucky people flying there. It's going to be a great few weeks.

Nice ride, i just did a 740 km ride on my FZ and it was enough for me. It reminded me that I'm way over 50 :D Ride safe

It's not for us this year with the Covid restrictions, so I'm looking forward to going next year to Airventure 22.

Don't apologize for not posting videos during the trip. Enjoy the ride and the fly-in! I share a very similar mantra when travelling on two wheels. Getting off the beaten path makes for the best memories. Ride safe, brother!

That's a lot of miles on a bike. Hope you have good weather for it. I live just outside of Milwaukee and Oshkosh is just crazy for that week. Have a great time!

Excellent route choice. If you can spare the time & miles on the way down, or if you're looking for a different route home then I strongly recommend swinging through Dead Indian Pass in Wyoming. That will point you towards US-14 and/or US-16 across WY, then US-16 on through the Black Hills to Rapid City. One of my favorite routes when I'm going out west.

Very smart avoiding the interstates and large cities. I am a storm chaser and have that same mentality. Always eat and stay at the local "mom and pop" places, supporting the rural economy in middle-America and not dealing with "cheezy" tourist traps nor the corruption of large cities. The local / secondary roads is always a scenic and great choice. Interstates are only when you are in a hurry with a car load of screaming kids and an impatient wife or spouse :)

I am in Wisconsin south of Oshkosh, many planes of all types heading north fly overhead (very cool), We have a small air port near by which hosts a lot of refueling. The "EAA Fly-in" Oshkosh event should be a bucket list item for most everyone following this channel, It is truely amazing.
Fond du Lac? In 2019, My friend the Sabre pilot bought a flight hour for his crew chief (also a pilot) to fly a P-40 Warhawk there. Pretty sure I'll be passing through...
@@AgentJayZ Great story! We are further south by about 65 miles. P.S. you may want to take a few hour detour and drive through the Bad Lands park in South Dakota. Amazing views especially from a motorcycle. 👍

My son and I are off to the North of Scotland for a few days next month - Covid permitting. We're hiring a Caterham 7 (he calls it a 2-seat go-cart) for 3 days while we are there. We'll cover nowhere near the distances that you will, but this emphasises just how big North America is, compared to this little island.
PS We intend to break our journey, starting on the south coast of England, somewhere near Glasgow and Edinburgh, after 7 hrs of driving, traffic permitting. another 3 hrs of driving the next day should take us to our destination, a total road distance of 635 miles. However, traffic conditions today (23 July) would result in a total driving time of over 12 hrs. That's because schools are out for the summer in England this week.
I never truly realized how big North America is until my family and I took a road trip from Texas to California. It felt like an eternity even though that wasn’t even a full transcontinental trip.

We are headed home to Anchorage, so it is "essential travel" lots of 10 hour days, and minimal interaction with the Canadians as per the rules.
Someday I'd sure love to have the chance to meet you and personally deliver a flag to your shop. I have learned so much about jet engines from your videos over the years!

MT highway 2 is okay. Havre, Rod’s Drive Inn, Ugly Burger is a must eat.
Route 2, across Washington and farther East, is one of the best roads I've ever been on.

Rapid City is great. The future base of the B-21 just outside the city.
Ellsworth has a museum that I plan to visit.

I've only been once before in 2019. The two biggest airshows were on the Thursday and Saturday, with the final Sunday being when a lot of people start departing. None of the days are disappointing, though.

That bracket at the top of the windscreen on the motorcycle looks like it's hand drawn and added into the video. The colour of it is messing with my eyes or something.
