There is no need to use hands in lock jar. But due to our habit we tend to put our hand even on lock jar. But locking system of this mixer jar is very good and you can keep your hand off the jar.
Very poorly designed blades and hence poor quality grinding. Never buy this product. This is a poor copy of old Sumeet Mixer. Made a mistake in trying this product simply based on the fact that it has powerful motor. Motor power is of no use if it cant grind even wet almonds after running the machine for 5 minutes.
