To apply Binary Search algorithm to a Array the elements need to be sorted, if not it will mis-behave, in the above example , you have searched for an element 2 first , which is not sorted in the list, thus resulted in an negative value, first sort the data using Arrays.sort() method and then apply binary search for best results.
