I just saw this story. Thank you for posting it. I accompanied two students in Ms. Williams studio at the School of Music, Indiana University during 1980 & 81. I loved every minute and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge being with her. Periodically now, when alone, I think of her, mimic her comments and cherish such great memories. Ms. Williams was a masterful teacher. One day while preparing a student for recital, a lesson scheduled at her apartment went long and Ms. Williams prepared dinner for us: she was quite the cook. We loved it! Towards the beginning of this video Ms. Williams mentioned that as a child she went to a Baptist Church, well she came to our small Baptist Church in Bloomington for some special occasion. She wasn't scheduled to perform, but I distinctly remember her singing hymns with the congregation. Wow! Something very special happened during the final verse and refrain of the parting hymn because Ms. Williams's voice just opened up, floated over the congregation and filled the sanctuary. She was an inspiration and an amazing person! I am blessed to have been around her and to have gleaned so much about music and life.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. She was truly a beautiful and loving person. If you are interested, here is a link to a recent exhibit on her life and legacy on display in Danville, VA www.danvillemuseum.org/Feature/details/id/103/camilla-williams-exhibit
