“ Most countries in Africa do not publish like Benin - The majority go to go to church or mosque on the Day and nuit going back to the Roots “ Every where in Africa was touch by the western religion for sure ..
When you get a chance, watch President Patrice Talon's interview on why his government is going all in on Vodun and its centrality to Benin's political, economic and cultural future. Interview is about an hour and in French. I know he has been heavily criticized for his lack of support for the Sahel breakaway states there is that....but Benin is undergoing a massive transformation and the amount of money they are putting in to their spiritual and cultural institutions is unprecedented on the continent. I believe only Egypt and Morocco have put in the commensurate investment.
I will not be the least bit surprised if repatriation to Benin surpasses that of Ghana in the next 5 years. Especially now that they have passed their own Diaspora path to citizenship law. Folks also do not realize that Benin is the most progressive country in West Africa.....abortion was legalized 2 years ago and LGBTQ rights are protected. None of this should come as a surprise in a country rapidly decolonizing.
Can you name another country that embraces their own ideology and religion? The majority of African nations are under Western European influence and are either Islamic or christian.
I was the last year during the Vodun festival meeting the mayor of Ouidah and Vodun Supreme Chief Daagbo was a total honor. There was so much happening physical and spiritually. It was estimated that 1 out of every 4 enslaved African Americans came from that port.
You can continue to wait. We got africans dealing with reality like Capitian Ibrahim traore..of burkina faso. mali..Niger. to bring real living security and empowerment to our people..
Ganvie is beautiful.
