    That's a bold step to take, so thank you for this video being out there. you're 100% right; it's time for each channel to revamp their video formats. find new ideas that go outside of "deck that hit infinite" and "new card dropped, here's a deck".

    Call me a zoomer but I think Snap is the perfect game to watch at 2x. I can't watch it any slower than 1.25x speed now. Content creators need to focus on the pop off moments of snap. I don't want to see t1 and t2 of you doing nothing

    I personally miss content talking about the amazing artists we have in Snap. Also, there's a youtuber called NerdDynamite that makes GREAT videos with notes and comments explaining his plays, I think is way more helpful than people just chatting on Twitch. I am from Brazil, I don't know if you know the "Mestres do Snap" from KingVenom channel, but it's a format I enjoy, because it's a preview of the incoming seasons + verdict of the past one. I think SNAP is a game that values personal collection and experiences, so maybe personalizing the content, exploring what the game offers to each CC would be awesome to see.

    Thank you for nailing down my frustrations with Snap content for ages..Just saddens me to see none of the bigger creators chipping in or acknowledging this wise take. Like the ones who can actually bring change in the community. Like I feel like other content creators also quit Snap because of the type of slop content but they don't wanna say it to insult their friends.

    Content creator here who was a day one Snap player. I only watch Snap content now. Personally, I hate short videos. What I want from Snap content creators is to experience the cards and decks. An 8-10 minute video doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t really get a sense of it or that vicarious sense of “having” the deck or card. I’ll watch the 1 hour stream cut from Hoogland. The 45 min video from TLSG. Same thing with Magic the Gathering Arena content. I don’t want to see a game or two. I want 40+ minutes to see how it plays.
    This is the first video of yours I’ve watched. So no previous experience about what you’ve been doing or how you’ve been doing it. We had built this channel covering Kanye West news then pivoted to movies and still haven’t figured that out perfectly. Which is a shame. But I put out 1300+ news video and had 45k followers at the height.
    To me, the issue with Snap content is multi-faceted. First, the content bubble burst. The initial wave of interest made it seem like it was a game that would sustain a large, large audience. But that hasn't held true. Hoogland gets about as many views now on a Snap video as he used to get on an MTGA video in 2022. As large as the player base is, Regis and Cozy are the only two creators who constantly reach 50k views with a video. It drops off dramatically after that. So the overall pool of viewers isn't what it had been.
    That brings us to the next facet. Why did it burst? Mostly because everything is pretty simplistic. Once you get to Infinite once, you understand it's just about playing a lot. And once you reach Infinite...there's not much to do. Same with Conquest. Because it's not really a factor of skill but rather time...you don't need to look toward more skillful creators for help. Maybe initially, but that quickly falls off. Which means that content can't necessarily be gameplay based because the need for gameplay explanations isn't there. A deck is only 12 cards and when you lose to a few of them enough, you kind of get what's good and how to play around it. As opposed to something like MTG where decks are 60 cards and building is a far more complex and nuanced thing, with new tech and combos emerging all the time. That makes content creators far more relevant to that game.
    When you look at Cozy and Regis, they're just jovial personalities. Regis already had a large following so people already just watch him for him. And Cozy puts in so much effort in the editing and has that lightbulb spark that keeps people coming back to him. So "performance" in terms of being a creator matters a bit more than the content, in this case. Then it funnels down to your niches-people who brew weird but competitive things (Hoogland, TLSG, Bynx), competitive (KM, Lamby, Dera), and then other personalities (Alex, Dekkster).
    I don't think Snap content itself can really elevate all that much because so few cards come out that really change anything in a meaningful way. And when a new card is playable, it's immediately clear how and why and how to respond to it. So all the gameplay-centric kind of videos don't really matter because people already know that. For that to change, you'd need an active competitive scene with real rewards and then that's only going to appeal to people who want to pursue Snap that competitively.
    It's hard to be a Snap creator because there's just not much to do. Longtime players don't need beginner content. And even beginners don't really need beginner content. They aspire to end game gameplay. And then end game content is just posting whatever the newest hot deck is. Which is a red ocean strategy since so many people are trying to do just that. If you brew, you're really appealing to a niche, and that can be nice, but also limited. Then there isn't much to do otherwise, ,unless you're doing something Snap adjacent. Like interviewing artists, interviewing players, interviewing game devs. Or getting people who have never played the game before to play and film their reactions.
    True innovation of Snap content would be combining it with some other form of content. Like....instead of interviewing people on the street, you ask them to play a game of Marvel Snap using your phone, and you record their gameplay and reaction. Or you look at another game like Elden Ring and try to recreate popular styles of content from there. Like what's the equivalent of Malenia no-hit run? What happens if you create your own little Snap league with a few people and play a "snap season" that mimics the NFL season? It has to be Snap + [this other thing that's already interesting]. Like the best performing videos KM Best has these days is when he gets non-Snap players to guess the power of Snap cards. CGB one of the biggest MTGA creators has been doing something similar. Those videos kill for both of them. And have done well for other games. Like imagine how funny it would be to show LeBron James different spells from Elden Ring and ask him to rate them on a scale of 1-10? Or just show LeBron baseball players hitting homers and ask him to guess how good of a player they are (he'd probably know too much for that to be fun, but the idea is what's important).
    Interested to see what you come up with. But I don't think it's simply a format or duration issue. Vertical and shorter won't solve the problem. But maybe vertical and "Can I win 5 games with the worst cards in Marvel Snap?" and it's 10 minutes of the highs, lows, and surprises of using the 12 worst performing cards in Snap...maybe stuff like that moves the needle? Or "Having my grandma try Marvel Snap" or "My dog picks my Marvel Snap deck". Just really shaking things up.
    Good luck!

    • @FilmColossus
      @FilmColossus 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just saw you have a league! And that the videos tend to have lower numbers. I scrolled through one video and it's cool that the gameplay is happening, but I think it needs to be more like WWE than a tournament. Like...emphasize the creators and their dynamics and the stories. Tournaments are interesting. But a league built around interesting people is really cool. Like check out the recent Cozy + Dekkster vs. Woody video. It's on Dekkster's channel. Came out 1 day ago. Has 41k views. It's Dekkster's best performing video in 3 months. The only one to do better was. about....Marvel Rivals lol. You have to go back 4 months for a Snap video that did better than 41k.
      I feel like that video has some of that WWE vibe. You have three characters with personalities people know. Two goofballs versus a serious, serious competitor.. You want to see who will prevail. There's a narrative there. Drama. Imagine if the league had that? If the tournament had that? It definitely takes a lot more effort and coordination. But the more you can create characters and elevate one another, the better the return. If you thought of the league as WWE, how would that change your presentation and structure? How would that change the content schedule and socials? Is that way more fun and interesting to do with a group of people than simply playing some sweaty games of Snap?

    TH-cam is a platform where people try to find "best deck", "get to infinite deck", or "best [card] deck" ([card] is most likely to be current release). This pushes such content to the front, both for audience but also for creators who are rewarded for such content.
    I think there is balance, to cater both to "general public" and "this is MY audience that wants what 90% don't"
    Here's hoping you find something YOU can be proud of, and to find audience that rewards you for it.
    I'm relatively new here (Thank you for tournament coverage!), so I'll wait to see where you go, and be sure to stay for whatever original and interesting you provide.
    PS I long since stopped watching regular gameplay on TH-cam, because it all is "this deck has 200% winrate if you play for 8 hours and make 20 minute video from it" :D

    What is the point of watching content when you don’t have access to the cards with cards acquisition being so slow and random, I think they should fix this by making every time when you unlock a card instead of giving you one random card you should be allow to pick one card out of three each time until all the card pool for that phase is complete because getting cards right now is worse than a rogue deck builder like slay the spire 😂

    The most useful videos for me have been in-depth explanations on a deck & its complexities, interactions etc. interested how a super short clip or whatever vertical streaming is, is gonna do that for me. I don’t care about the format, or algorithm, or sameness. I only care about transfer of knowledge to improve my game.

  • @belakthrillby

    Personally i like listening to people talk about the game as a whole, the meta and the intracasies of individual cards. I dont actually watch the gameplay portion of anybodys deck highlight videos.
    I also think most of the big creators dont really make decks exploring underutilized cards because theres a focus on decks that can get the average player to infinite

  • @brandonheld9804
    @brandonheld9804 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I agree that the content gameplay-wise has grown stale, and it takes its toll on the individual. Who wouldn't be burned out at this point after multiple years of very similar gameplay. I don't necessarily agree with creator content not doing a good enough job-of course I'm 43 so maybe it has to do with social media platforms I don't engage on as often. I just want to be honest with you Guest: I listen to a lot of Snap podcasts and TH-cam videos. I feel like you haven't found the fit for you that best optimizes and utilizes your personality strengths. I envision you going back and forth with someone, trading barbs and getting into hard conversations, fun conversations, off-beat conversations...but it being quick witted and firing on all cylinders,. That might not make a lot of sense...but sometimes I hear you and it's like finding a square peg in a round hole, or a round shoe on a square foot, or a hexagonal something something...and I can envision the fit, and it being a top podcast. I just feel like maybe you haven't met your match yet that way, and I've heard you on a few podcasts now with different people. But I feel like it's out there.

  • @paperc07
    @paperc07 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's tough cause it depends on your audience. Like I literally just want to hit infinite every season so I mainly only watch top deck videos. Once I hit infinite then I can play "fun" decks or whatever decks I want. But the thing I feel this game truly lacks and this is my opinion is huge tournaments. You got all these fps mlg games and stuff like that and the biggest card stuff you see is hearthstone or Pokémon if you're into that. Marvel snap almost needs to do like a league or idk honestly but as of now you log on monthly, rush to infinite and then that's mainly just it. Now you play once or twice a day to collect your 25 credits and make sure your missions don't overlap. And meanwhile you're doing that in conquest just to have enough points to buy everything. But there definitely needs to be more. We definitely need a hearthstone arena type gameplay also. Idk these are all my opinions and experiences.
