it's not always the Synth that counts, but a good programmer, who can get right it to its guts and bring the best out of it. Just too many perfectionists and Synth snobs out there. In a few years time, they'll be wanting one of these as they reflect and realize, Just how good they are for the money at the moment.
Everyone talks junk on this thing, but i'm gonna get it because I want to learn hands on and don't want to learn synthesis in a menu. I like what I heard in this video. Thank You.
I've seen many synthesizers, this one is really smart design of signal path for creating fat sounds. The price tag is absolute ok I've to say. I find this one to be the perfect synth to fill in the gap if you already have many types of VA-synths. Seems so fun to program and easy to carry on gigs.
The people that junk it probably don't own it. At best had 5 minutes with it in their local shop. Granted the presets are probably the worst i have heard on a Roland synth. I am not selling mine anytime soon.
This synth, as the sh201 sound a little bit "poor" in the high end harmonics. I've compared them with a lot of other virtual analogue gear and they do lack that content of high frequencies, but with some audio trickery (I record them through a vacuum tube preamp) they sound like any other VA synth...even better, and they are a huge bang for the buck.
seriously, all you need is this thing, a 4 track or 8 track recorder and you have everything you need. Yes it is virtual analog but does it really matter that much?
Had this synth for about a year and let me tell you, although it didn't had the best oscillators (a bit "thin" compared to real analog) it sounded very nice with the internal effects, it also had many features, it was so much fun o play. I totally miss it.
this is an excellent synth! not the sophisticated or robust but its best attribute is difficult to quantify. it puts a big smile on the face of anyone who tries it, even if they never used a synth before. it immediately gets people in the creative zone, so easy and immediate! it's close to 10 years of age now in 2019 and Roland should definitely make a Gaia-2 with 4 octave bed and updated engine and features borrowed from Aira family.
80386 semi modular please . And a big easy to read display to avoid shift routines entirely. I still love mine to this day that Said it deserves a real reboot. Minus the hidden functionality completely.....Peace Christo 👽
This is a great synth, I just love it. Great sounds and also lots of pre made sounds on Axial that are a synch to up load. But the real deal with this synth is making your own sounds and tweaking the parameters that are just laid out before you, no menu diving in a small LCD display. The sound is great and it's just so cool to use. Easy to carry around but a 5 octave one of these would be brilliant! Don't expect any PCM sounds here it's pure synth. Just great!!
I know this is supposed to be virtual analog, but it still sounds very digital to me. But i like that. I'm an analog guy, so i don't need an emulation. If i get a digital synth, i want it to sound digital.
I have gone back and forth on which synth to buy. I love the JD-XA , love the System 8, love the Mini / Micro Brute(s). There are so many. Before i bought my JD-Xi, I was going to buy the GAIA next. I think i still will go for the Gaia. I love the concept. Old school hands on and no menu screens. Straight performance synth.
I got this, awesome synth, great to start off with because its easy to manipulated whatever you want in real time! very performer friendly i think. Its not perfect with sharper-bass goodness(or maybe im still trying to learn to use it well there?), but it has its own character, its great with airy pads, and synth solo sounds, and lots of weird stuff.
I have this synth and ill never sell it, this synth is a monster and people talk a lot of shit cuz they didn't spent enough time on it, the sound possibilities are endless and you can make it sound massive, all the sounds I ever dreamed can be made on this shit, trust me, you will never regret if you buy this synth, actually I'm considering buying another cuz if I have 2 then I have 6 oscillators, 6 LFO'S, all that waveforms, just insane.
Happy New Year everyone "2018"... I love this genre of music!!! happy all of the best to everyone... Music is life; Music is universe!!! (think about that).
They are amazing. why anyone would want to diss it is beyond me.i have one. Go to Luftrum.com.for patches. Amazing. I advise you to think twice about this. Great demo.
People I need help, does anyone know any fairly new key board synths like the jd-xi cross over synth???? I want to buy a brand new model of something like a jd-xi. I was going for the jd xi but I want something newer and I feel like there is something out there better than it. if anyone can help me out that'll be awesome
This the deepmind 6 or 12 and maybe sub fatty. Or possibly the mophie x4 will be great companions to my minilogue xwp1 and the d05. I also have a Rhodes mark 1 stage piano. I think I will have plenty to create with. For sure this. I already have ideas for layering this with my d05. Oooo can't wait.
I like some of the sounds produced by some Roland synthesizers but they all seem to small amount of presets. Also not a big fan of sliders. The more knobs the better IMO.
Hi i disagree ,when i'm playing 2 boards i like that i can quickly push my hand up on one of my Behringer DM6's sliders ex: filter would not be as easy with a knob.
Well, I am a big Novation fan. That said for pads I would go Novation also the presets are modern so if you're making modern EDM etc. I think it's a great choice. With the GAIA you can easily make your own patches so if you like to tweak knobs it's there for you. Sound wise I prefer Novations over Rolands. The Novation will require more menu diving to make your own patches but I think there's a computer editor for it. Either one would be a good choice, use your ears pick what you like.
I got the gaia and ultra nova and jdxi great sounds great synths. As its been said dont diss them use your imagination to create new sounds and i tell you thete are all powerful synths
Absolute garbage synth when it comes to storage, but that's about everyting you can complain about. Hands on, very useful sounds (when you actually create one yourself) and easy enough to get used to the shared controls of the tones. Just learn to use 'manual' (press both preset buttons) and you'll do fine. And do read the manual, you won't find the eg panning option without it and well, that one alone is worth the reading time, with 3 tones you can pan 2 and have the lfo add some variation to both sides.
....isnt this synth "ancient"..relatively speaking in terms of todays flood of products? this came out a couple years ago, right? odd for them to promote it like its new. Most videos on this channel are products that just came out.
+dopemcee Yes. Came out in 2010. I have mine since 2013. Surprisingly fun gear to play with. And I am no newcomer in synth world. I have half a dozen synths from most 'big name' manufacturers, yet I reach for the SH01 a lot more often than I thought I would.
I love Rolands synths,, most of f them, but there is something about this synth that makes it sound generic. It’s like it has all cheap digital wave forms and no analog lush. And the fx sound like they lack perimeters, or I just didn’t program it enough. But I quickly moved to other synths also because of it plastic esthetics.
it's not always the Synth that counts, but a good programmer, who can get right it to its guts and bring the best out of it. Just too many perfectionists and Synth snobs out there. There's one where I work for cheap. I'm going to jump on it.
@@timgittar -- I just got a very gently used one for not a lotta scratch. and I LOVE it.
I've seen many synthesizers, this one is really smart design of signal path for creating fat sounds. The price tag is absolute ok I've to say. I find this one to be the perfect synth to fill in the gap if you already have many types of VA-synths. Seems so fun to program and easy to carry on gigs.

If you cannot find a use for this great little synthesizer you have no imagination
seriously, all you need is this thing, a 4 track or 8 track recorder and you have everything you need. Yes it is virtual analog but does it really matter that much?
Well said. People want too much, and never learn how to work with "less". Every "great" track starts with the fundamental elements.
Had this synth for about a year and let me tell you, although it didn't had the best oscillators (a bit "thin" compared to real analog) it sounded very nice with the internal effects, it also had many features, it was so much fun o play. I totally miss it.

^ you could always connect a midi keyboard.
i'm not totally convinced he's got another sound module
I have a Korg Monologue and the Arturia Minibrute. I want to sell both and get one of these Gaia. What's Gaia stand for??
80386 semi modular please . And a big easy to read display to avoid shift routines entirely. I still love mine to this day that Said it deserves a real reboot. Minus the hidden functionality completely.....Peace Christo 👽
This thing sounds freaking great
Excellent demo by Scott Tibbs, very clear and concise. The Gaia sounds great and is designed really well. I want one.
This is a great synth, I just love it. Great sounds and also lots of pre made sounds on Axial that are a synch to up load. this synth is only as Great as your mind's Imagination and Creativity

ROKKI MASON hows your JD Xi im going to buy one is ithe Gaia much different than JD Xi

I'd be honestly interested what other synths to have to see your comment in perspective
Happy New Year everyone "2018"... I love this genre of music!!! happy all of the best to everyone... Music is life; Music is universe!!! (think about that).
I wish I never sold this synth
This seams to be an awesome synth for psytrance production. Do you guys agree?
That's what I've gotten into. This seems like a steal for trance vibes
thats some nice acid sounds in the beginning of the video
Great demo and overview. Sounds superb
Can I use this for a MIDI instrument for my D.A.W. just by plugging it in?
nice synth ,i have one!!! great sound
i'm not totally convinced you do have one of these synths
Why?
Why does he just skip over the white noise option? that's an incredible feature
Dude I fell in love at 8:27
This was the first synth I was drawn too...still kinda want one haha.
Daniel DeMayo of you want one, Now is The best Time to buy. You can find them as cheap as 300. Thats half The Price. Im certainly gertting one
Daniel DeMayo Yeah I kinda want one too i just got the dsi mofo 4x kinda getting into these synths.
Better than being drawn to a Nord right form the get-go, lol.
so this replaces the jp-8000? the jp-8000 had analogue modelling, but still this looks like a nice affordable synth
A small screen just to see where the faders and knobs were for each osc would help a lot.
Korg R3
The moon rabbit just ordered this synth! He can't wait to start making music with it!
Scott sged since his V-synth demos
Now I know who played in all the patchdemo tunes in my Roland gear :D Where does one learn to play chords like that?
Just got a mint one on eBay for £186 time to buy now guys before it goes up again
Thanks a lot Scott!
Just got one today and I'm really excited...
I feel like listening to Chicago.. One of my favs
0:30 Hmmm I can hear NFS: High Stakes
All Praise Gaia!
They are amazing. why anyone would want to diss it is beyond me.i have one. Go to Luftrum.com.for patches. Amazing. I advise you to think twice about this. Great demo.
Do these have a speaker built into them, say if I wanted to get one for a child that might be interested in making sounds, etc.?
Witch is better Roland Gaïa or Roland System-1 ?
I still regret selling this :/ .This synth is still holding its price for 599 .
Man I would like to try this. Unfortunately all shops here are closed due to covid and only sell their stuff online now with no chance to try.

amazing ! I want one 😁
can i add my korg volcas to this.im new to synths?

The other benefit to faders is an instant visual representation of where the function is currently set.
SCOTT TIBBS IS SECRETLY ALFALFA FROM "THE LITTLE RASCALS"!
Hey people, I'm trying to decide between a Gaia or Ultranova. It's gonna be my first synth. Any advice?

Kwan Kwa if you had to pick one out of them which would you choose
Hey. Can you control the tempo of the arpeggio?
Should sync to a DAW clock, probably has on board tempo parameter I would guess.
@@Pulse2AM there's a tap tempo button (didn't see a knob)
Can we use Indian patches aswell?
If I use GarageBand as a DAW, will this be compatible?
theplourde yes
i'm not totally convinced it will be compatible
Lacey ~ douche.
any particular reason this is being demoed now? isn't it ~6 years old?
look what day it was uploaded....April fools perhaps?
Synths are timeless. Have you heard the old Roland SH-5? You could demo that thing 4 years from now
i'm not totally convinced that some of the sounds he tweaked were exactly what he wanted
Thag's the beauty of synthesis. You get cool sounds you wheren't expecting
Isn't that half the fun?
Phuture doom?
very very, very... very

Muito top
A lot of fullness. Hahaha
whats the analog thing about this synth ?
808th like >:3
....isnt this synth "ancient"..relatively speaking in terms of todays flood of products?
this came out a couple years ago, right? odd for them to promote it like its new. Most videos on this channel are products that just came out.
+dopemcee Very true.
+dopemcee Yes. Came out in 2010. I have mine since 2013. Surprisingly fun gear to play with. And I am no newcomer in synth world. I have half a dozen synths from most 'big name' manufacturers, yet I reach for the SH01 a lot more often than I thought I would.
MIcrokorg. similar, but more depth, just not "as convenient" to manipulate.
It is because it does not sell well and they made a large surplus of them.
You have made this so complicated
This sounds terrible i'll stick with my access virus.
They are not the same, there is a character to each.
