  • I've had the TWSBI Eco (M) for quite a while and really enjoy it. While reviewing the Wing Sung 698, it struck me that I'd never reviewed it. I don't know why, it is a great pen that I highly recommend.

    I LOVE the Twsbi Eco pens - I have a few F nibs and one Broad nib. The F nibs are super smooth and I don’t notice any noise at all while writing with them BUT the Broad nib is quite noisy while writing ✍️ I still love it 😊

    Only just came across this review now, I totally agree. I’d go as far as to say it’s the best pen in their line-up. I’ve tried and owned five different pens of theirs and the Eco is my favourite. Will definitely get more.

    I have maybe 50 fountain pens of all sorts. All the TWSBI, but especially the ECO are easily the best in terms of value. I have all the nib sizes and especially appreciate the stub, though all do well. Of equal merit to the pen is the company itself which has always stood behind the individual customer with incredible support. My favorites are the Rose Gold models. And the minis. So the tippy top would be the Diamond Rose Gold Minis. Very close to perfection and an unrivaled value.

      I agree. TWSBIs are pens that, even though I use them quite often, I still think each time, "Why am I not using this pen more?" This Eco has been as rock solid reliable as can be.

    Yes James, there are many reviews on the TWSBI Eco, and people have been reviewing them for years!
    However, I am glad you are sharing your thoughts on the TWSBI Eco. I own 3 Ecos and 7 Lanbitou 3059
    (TWSBI Eco clone). Thus far have had a good experience with the 3059 as well. I did change the fine nibs
    with medium nibs from Bobby.

    It's that good, and fairly rugged. I've dropped mine three times and even cracked the barrel it at the nib from the latest drop onto a concrete floor. It doesn't even leak. So I'll keep using it.

    Just got my Prussian Blue 580 yesterday. Somewhat disappointed the rubber insert in the cap isn't clear like in the Eco, but rather smokey gray - I wonder why they decided to do that when the rest of the pen is so nice and clear.

    TWSBI Eco is a modern, beautiful and inexpensive piston filler fountain pen for +/- 30 dolars or euros.
    I bought one Eco Clear with F nib nine months ago on a local stationary store… and it’s awesome. Never failed, run and first paper touch … everytime works like Kaweco Brass Sport (F nib too).
    I bought since much more time ago an inexpensive fountain pen calligraphy set (Cretacolor Brevillier’s), and italic nibs works perfectly on Eco too. Works much better than with the fountain pen set, 😂. The Eco ink flow works PERFECT with the 1,1, 1,5 or 1,9 mm italic nib. Incredible.
    I wish buy anymore TWSBI… Vac 700 (😍 big nibs), or a beautiful TWSBI Classic (beautiful fountain pen) probably. Also I like the orange Mini Diamond too...

      This is a marker pad from Hobby Lobby (Master’s Touch Marker art pad). It is an excellent paper for fountain pens, but with more texture than papers like Midori or Tomoe.

    Question on the section of the ECO, is it round like the mini or 580 or is it somewhat faceted or triangular like a Lamy Safari?

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question, I should have mentioned that. It's round on the Eco, but you can get the Eco-T and it has a triangular section and design elements.

    It was a while before I bought any Twsbi pens but I now have 2 Ecos, 3 Go and a 580. I wanted to start with cheaper pens (yeah, good luck with that!) so in the piston filler realm I began with the WS3008 and WS698 plus a few others such as a couple of Caliarts Ego (quite a good pen incidentally). I wanted to see if piston fillers would be for me. They are. I don't write anywhere near enough to need such a large capacity, but that doesn't matter when you see the ink sloshing around inside, right?

  • @jkpisces

  • @warblerab2955

    I just got a twsbi eco extra fine. It is not working well at all. It is scratchy and and skips all the time and feeling like it is dragging. I don't think the ink is flowing properly through it. It feels like in order to write with it, I have to use a some pressure and I know enough to know that you shouldn't need to use pressure to write with a fountain pen. Before i inked it up, I filled it with water and emptied multiple times, so it was cleaned before use. I can't say I am impressed with the pen so far.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very frustrating. Have you contacted TWSBI? They have a good customer support reputation.

    • @warblerab2955
      @warblerab2955 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: At first it wrote terribly. Had to use a lot of pressure and skipped alot. It felt sort like a ball point. But after writing with it a bit it has gotten better. It is writing smoother, with considerably less pressure needed and it skips less. But it still skips a little bit. Hopefully it will continue to get better.

    Hey James, was curious to hear your thoughts on the Twsbi Eco vs the Moonman T1. Been wanting to get a demonstrator for a while now and can't choose between the two.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a tough one, but there are some key differences. I have both, and thoroughly enjoy writing with both.
      The Eco has these advantages:
      It has a clip, and that does mean I carry it more often.
      It has a warranty, and has been out longer to establish a good record.
      JOWO nibs.
      The Moonman's:
      A price advantage, if ordering from China direct and you're patient.
      The aluminum parts are a nice upgrade, not that different from those on the TWSBI 580 AL.
      Mine came with a smooth nib, but they can be easily swapped.
      If I'm only having one, I'd lean Eco, but only by a hair.

    Great videos btw

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. The Eco doesn’t have a notch like some piston-filled pens do to prevent it twisting. I haven’t had any issues with mine twisting with use, it isn’t too loose (I have another pen that does have that issue).

    The GO is a bit more affordable for me.

    On Eco: Awful pen for its section nubs near nib. Very annoying reminder to write
    horizontally, which is how poor writers write. Edge of section near nib
    must be round and smooth, which Chinese manufacturers could have done,
    if they had any brains (they don't). We are not children that need to be
    reminded to write horizontally for heaven sake. Some write with grip
    close to nib and will hit nubs in this case. Smallish nib makes one want
    to write nearer to the dreaded nubs with Eco. Of course you can grip
    away from nubs, higher up on section, but what good pen maker ever
    forces you to do this? Answer: None.
