Robert Hillenbrand Presents Art of Narrative in the Great Mongol Book of Kings

Robert Hillenbrand is one of the world’s leading scholars on Islamic art. Hillenbrand served as professor of Islamic art at the University of Edinburgh from 1971-2007, and is currently a professorial Fellow at the Universities of Edinburgh and St. Andrews. He is regarded as one of the great experts on Persian painting during the Mongol Period (1256-1353 CE). Here, his talk at the Nelson-Atkins museum focuses on one of his favorite topics, the Great Mongol Shahnama (Book of Kings), the subject of his upcoming book and the focus of a future exhibition at the museum.
