There are some very cool looking tombstones in that graveyard. They have so many details.

Another fascinating historical investigation, Cara. Nice to see all the ways the symbol of the skull and crossbones has been used over time and all over the world. It's a symbol that is still used in industrial warning signs today.

Cara good morning. It is 6:11 am and I was awake early. So here I am watching your video. What a gorgeous time of year you filmed this. Very interesting- indeed symbols have always been part of our communication system. If not written, then by hand and body language. I guess it was in decoding them which can also lead to different meanings. Love how you edited in symbols yourself in places where totally appropriate adding to the video information. I grew up with the knowledge that seeing skull and crossbones was a thing of danger- beware - maybe pirates lurking. Anything with that symbol must be avoided at all costs. Great research and sharing of information Cara. A good start to my week. Happy Monday. 👌🇳🇱🙋‍♀🥝

This is very interesting. The history of skull and crossbones as well as the human need to communication through symbols is well presented. I especially enjoyed the part about pirate history. 💯💯☠👍👍

I guess whenever I think of a skull and crossbones, I think of the infamous pirate age of Blackbeard and Anne Bonny. But it certainly goes much deeper than that. I guess I have never really looked for them at a cemetery. Great topic! 😊👍

Thank you Cara. What an amazing graveyard; such stark beauty. I’ve visited Ocracoke on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where Blackbeard was captured and killed. Lots of motorcycle gear with skulls though not the crossbones around South Dakota with the motorcycle culture.

    Hi Cara
This is a little different history I have not heard about for a while
    Hmm...pirates/vikings some outlaw ships?
Questionable ....here you are Cara..always bring to the table to us
Thank you so much for spending your time researching.
I wonder why they wanted to be buried on the land. I thought They like to be RIP in the sea.
I thank you so much for waking my brain...my body is sore from SUP boarding haha

thank you so much for your wonderful comment. As far as i know, they had a sea burial only when at sea. Some still had family, so i guess why they were buried on land

A very interesting piece on the symbol. I remember too that in medieval & renaissance art you sometimes found a skull & bones under Jesus on the cross. There was a widely held belief that the spot on Golgotha was exactly where the body of Adam was buried. This was then often depicted by artists. Thanks Cara!
