    Excellent video, Brad! As usual with your videos, I appreciate the quality of the video and the accuracy of the information outlined in the video. It’s nice to hear standard terms for things like carbide precipitation, and pointing out that “sugaring” is more or less the slang equivalent. It makes it easier to know exactly what you mean.

    Well Done I like how you explain out fit up & purge I work in the food industry & are Stainless welds whether 304 or 316 have to be perfect so I 100% agree that everything has to be as close to perfect as can be . I see from your shop you must do a lot of Turbo conversions that sure would be fun in my books . I like your V band connector your systems must be first class & beautiful to look at would love to see some under hood shots of cars you have done & what the system looks like after the Turbo. 9:40 I do not suggest using any tape, whether it's masking tape or PET tape because all of them leave some kind of glue residue, and when a pipe is tacked together it's impossible to remove all of the tape residue without getting some of that inside the joint, between the two metals.

    • @hourglassingenuity103
      @hourglassingenuity103 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whether it is Tube or pipe.. Powder coating tape leaves no residue.. that’s why I use it... I appreciate your input and I can promise you my recommendation works and works well. I have welded plenty of aerospace parts using this method that have very strict requirements and I have also used this same method to weld many many titanium and stainless tube assemblies. Have a great weekend!

    • @YszapHun
      @YszapHun 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hourglassingenuity103 Just did a check as to what powder coating tape means for you, but it's the same PET tape of what I thought it was. I believe in your experience, if you say that it leaves no residue. I hadn't yet done any weld job that needed X-ray but I would imagine that it would have left residue (I am extremely meticulous about cleanliness). I really like that you read and answer all relevant comments, you're a cool guy.

      YszapHun I try and read and answer every comment if I can! I really appreciate your opinion on the topic and I enjoy reading your comments because you seem very educated. I have never had any trouble with residue but I have had massive amounts of trouble with using scotch brite on a tacked joint and introducing fibers into the joint and have contamination issues that way. Either way, so many ways to do something! Thank you for your time and engagement. 🙌🏻

    • @Missileworksllc
      @Missileworksllc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      YszapHun don’t know if PET tape is the same as kapton tape. But kapton tape has been the go to for many. And as brad said, it doesn’t leave residue.

    You would be appalled if you saw some of the shit that people do in the building trades. "Back purge? Nah, that takes to long besides it's not really necessary for what we're doing." I hear that all the time, and we're a skilled trade.

  • @seansmith4440
    @seansmith4440 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why is having a diffuser on the purge so important? Argon is heavier than oxygen. Just like the water example, filling up a glass is going to be the same if the water is diffused or not. It's still going to remove the air exactly the same as it fills up from the bottom.

Very harsh judgement when not stating for which application it is considered junk part. 99% post turbo exhaust parts are not purged and I have made many exhausts with or without purge. Not a single cracking after years of use. When in contact with liquid, intake, or very high temperatures all 100% purged when using austenitic steel and high nickel alloys.
