Enjoying your videos. You bring up a valid point that people often overlook. "A great watch is a great watch". Regardless of cost Brand, price or heritage doesn't change the fact that " if it a respectable watch then it demands respect""
Thank you. There are so many amazing watches out there. It is great to be able to find them, be able to afford them and of course then enjoy them. Thanks for WATCHing
Thanks for bringing this up. A grail watch doesn’t have to be thousands of dollars in my opinion. There are people out there who would have save up for a long time to purchase a $500 watch.
Indeed. Nobody needs a $500 watch. As genuine value for money it is a waste of money. However as jewelry, an affectation or just for the novelty and enjoyment as well as status a $500 is probably near enough the best bang for your dollar you can spend. You really don’t get much better until you spend 8-10 times as much money, and even then it’s vanishingly small the real difference, let alone spending tens of thousands or more. (BTW I am one of those guys who does own such an insanely expensive watch, but I get so much more enjoyment out of my Seiko 5 collection as well as my very fine but much cheaper Heritage Grand Seiko in comparison to my Daytona which was a self congratulatory purchase to feed my ego. (I don’t even like wearing it anymore).
Love your selections! Always a bit different from other TH-camrs and always fantastic watches. You can't go wrong with watches recommended on this channel. That's been my experience!
Both the bronze watches look fantastic James. I think the “200m water resistance” on a chrono though is a tad much.I’ve got a bronze San Martin flieger & it’s great. The ST1901 is a terrific watch movement. I have a number of Chinese & or AliExpress watches with that movement. I also have the Ipose but with a different dial & the PT5000 movement. I went for this over the SW200 mainly as I have a number of watches with that movement. The PT5000 is a very reliable & accurate movement. Overall I have not had one issue with any Chinese watch I’ve bought over the last 5 years or so. Good selection!👍🏼😎
I’ve had my eye on the SM bronze as well but I’ve been buying too many watches lately. I’m happy with the Pt5000 as well. Decided to go with the SW200 for the Ipose to see what it was like from an AliExpress watch. It has been great so far.
All great watches , particularly the Merkurs, I have a soft spot for them 👍. I've just received a bright blue original design San Martin sn0116 and it is fantastic. The case shape and finishing is superb, 20 to 16mm tapering beads of rice bracelet with on the fly clasp and a beautiful blue dial and handset in orange and red (sounds awful, but just works!).
Thanks for this perspective. I have the Ipose with a California Dial and i find it very cool. But i wanted to ask you about the Merkur Skin Diver. When you put it up and screw the crown, with handwinding movement,, how long does that work until you have to correct the time again and hadwind it?
Thank you. I wanted to put in some macro as well. If I do a part 3 I’ll try to put both in. All the watches that are featured have also been or will be fully reviewed on my channel. Thanks for WATCHing
James, liked the selection & descriptors but please be clearer in your diction or post more details somewhere, the second last watch the bronze one, could not hear the brand, Roden, Roland,???? Not everyone is familiar with all the Ali Express brand names so I have no idea how to find that watch. Cheers Curt
I'd struggle to justify that Sugess Chrono when I know it's 10% the price of a Nivada Grenchin Chrono, very close to "just save up for the better watch" territory for me
It is hard sometime to justify they cost. I’ve thought the same about some of the BB58 homages. But I can certainly say that this surgess chrono is incredible. It will be staying in my collection.
I’m my experience they are lasting as long as my other watches. They are all different and you still need to pick the right ones. Depending on the movement will depend on servicing. Most of the ones I have owned contain Seiko movements. All the specs listed tend to be right. But again. Picking the right watch with lots of reviews is always best. Thanks for WATCHing
It’s hard to buy any watch and not possibly loose money if you choose to resell. I would advise buying whilst on sale. So you are then possibly able to get you money back if you choose to sell later.
You avoided the subject by answering a complicated question in a very elementary manner! Many Blogger/ dealers are encouraging Watch enthusiasts to ""consolidate" their collections of "affordable" watches into 2 or 3 Higher end pieces! this can cause severe financial hardship because their collections are impossible to sell anywhere near the purchase price! It is there fore not possible to take their questionable advice at face value!
@@davidcrandall4958 You want to buy knock off watches and not lose money reselling them....and you expect to be taken seriously. No! You are a cheapskate loser, this hobby is not for you! Go buy gold coins you pathetic sphynkter! This is not an investment you ignoramus. I buy these watches to enjoy for a while and then I gift them to friends and family, which gives me even more joy! You are a sad individual, I am sure the ladies dry up instantly in your presence. It is not the presenter's fault you are a boring loser.😂
Thank you for your feedback. I will definitely include lume next time. I do have full reviews of each of these which do feature lume shots. I’m careful not to mention original names as TH-cam can be a bit funny about those sort of thins.
We need to come up with a different word. I think, like many other reviewers and watch aficionados the term "Grail" is being misused here. A persons grail item, be it a watch or anything else is personal to each individual. James and others tend to use the title "Grail" like it's a catagory or type of watch. Technically and literally the term "Grail" is used for an item that is highly unobtainable but also highly desirable by an *individual!* Your Grail ain't my Grail and my Grail ain't yours!
That sort of why I’ve made this video. To identify some watches that should not could be considered something extra special. Hard to find watches or at least hard to find within the crowd. Grail also sounds better than “watches that are so much better than you expect especially considering the other watches on AliExpress” 😁😁😁
That’s a deliberate choice. I want to make the video about the watches I’m talking about. I also don’t want to do “wrist watch checks” as that is so well known from another much better known creator. Thanks for WATCHing
There are some incredible watches available from AliExpress. But there are a few that are outstanding
That bronze Hruodland is one of my favs 👌🏼👌🏼
There is something particularly special about it.

I love that bronze Hroudland at the end James. That is the one for me when I spring for the bronze piece to add to my little collection... Stunning
It really is something extra special.
Nice selection James and I cannot disagree. All these watches would fit in with the Ali Express grail category. I'd wear all of them. Excellent video.
They are incredible watches. It continues to surprise me how many amazing watches there are out there.
That bronze watch is a fantastic piece! The movement is something the I can stare at for hours! Good selection James 👍
It is gorgeous and such a great watch to own. I am really enjoying having this one in my collection

Absolutely. I think there are “grail watches” at every price point.
It’s more about finding the outstanding watches and the search for them.
👍
Thanks for the video. I have the Merkur Pierre Paulin, a bit of a Hamiltonesque watch. Its a nice looking watch - the pictures don't do it justice.
They are creating some amazing and affordable watches.

I’ve noticed it has around 38 hours power reserve and this one is running around 10 seconds fast per day.
Thanks! Have you looked at the Merkur/Pierre Paulin jump hour watch yet? Would love to see a review of that
Well. Stay tuned. I have the salmon dial and have my first video coming out featuring it on Saturday.

What watch is the IX&DAO Ipose a homage of? I'd love to learn more about it I'm just a bit unaware!
The Serica 5303. I’ve reviewed the Serica as well and done a comparison between the two. Have a look though my recent videos.
Hey James, I love the WW2 field but I have large hands/fingers and I’m worried about winding the small crown. Is my worry founded?
I don’t think you will have an issue with it.
It is an easy watch to wind.
My hands a reasonably big as well and I don’t have any issues at all.

What about Franck Muller at aliexpress are they good to buy?
I think they are fake watches. Franck Muller is an expensive watch brand that I think is being copied.

The Sugess Bronze Pilot appears to be inspired by the Zenith Pilot Montre d'Aeronef series.
