    15:30 the reason for the eye patch is likely different. From what I heard pirates used the eye patch to keep one eye adjusted to darkness. By covering one eye on deck, that eye would be already adjusted to darkness when going below deck, and to see they just had to flap the patch up and would be ready to see immediately. This has a tactical advantage during combat activity.

      Hi! Thanks for this explanation which I have heard is another explanation, but wouldn't fit into my story as well... Interestingly enough, it doesn't work to close one eye to keep the eye adjusted to darkness, unless you have a brain tumour or a concussion. All other humans have them working in parallel: shine with a flash-light into ne eye and the other one contradicts as well. Typical test to check of doctors. It if would be so simple, this is what we all could do instead of using red light. But yes, I have heard this explanantion as well!
