We bought a good dehumidifier too for the basement. It helps eliminate the musty smell on books and paper. The dehumidifier drains into the sewer so is pretty low maintenance. Just clean the filter periodically. I gave up on the kind that you have to empty and bleach to keep clean. Too much work. I dont keep anything on the floor, not even my bins. And I label everything that is not nailed down, and likely that too. I forget what is in the bins so I try to put like things together. So, one bin for snowmen, one for trees, one for ornaments, one for candy cane stuff, one for gingerbread stuff. This helps me as I change my theme all the time. I love how your decor is so eclectic and colorful but I am matchy matchy . So I will have a lemon theme, a strawberry theme, and 4 seasons and all holidays. So it is a lot of change ups and it is so much more fun when everything is organized. You will have so much fun, and will create new arrangements now that you know what you have and where it is. But remember that when you bring other stuff downstairs that you put it in its place. That is my big weakness. I just dump boxes of decor on the basement floor to get at the redecorating. You are inspiring me to go into my dungeon and put it right. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing how you decorate, Betty! I agree the maintaining of the storage system is what actually matters so we’ll see how that goes. My dehumidifier empties into a drain as well with a hose, I love the no maintenance thing! ☺️
I should be inspired to declutter from watching but all I can think of is dang I wish I could go to her garage sale lol. We downsized in retirement and this house has no basement and I am kind of glad after spending my life cleaning basements. At this point I only want what I can use and don't want to store anything.
You did a really good job! I love the plastic storage boxes-they keep the dirt and bugs out of your nice stuff! Always buy clear ones so you can see what is inside. I have a problem with decor as I decorate for: Winter/Valentines/St Patrick's day/ Easter/Spring/Fourth of July-Summer/Fall/Halloween & Christmas. Love all my "stuff". No basements in my area-so luckily I have a room in the garage that is lined on both sides with those plastic shelving units. I keep anything that would be ruined by temperature changes inside the house. Every season I find I buy some items and donate things that I no longer like. Keeps it fresh. Love your videos-nice job!
This was so helpful to me right now! Our water heater went a few weeks ago and we had to move all of my craft bins to another portion of our finished basement. I’ve already gone through the bins but they are just stacked and I have been so overwhelmed about putting everything away and/or purging. I like your idea of setting the bar low because when we exceed that, it is psychologically motivating. I am about to retire and need a knee replacement, so pain is also a huge challenge. I am going to just START tomorrow and see what I can accomplish! Thanks for the motivation! 😊
Amazing and so inspiring. In the middle of me tackling my decor storage. Great tips and felt like I have a buddy doing it with me. Proud of you! And I know I’ll get mine done too. ❤
Thank you. I have this issue and nobody is addressing this on TH-cam. I feel like we are preserving history. I really hope someone can continue after I die. Lol😢
Thankyou for this video Emily! You did a great job and it was incredibly motivational!! That’s gonna be some garage sale!! Have a great organized day !😊
First of all, holy crap, you have the Bela Lugosi Dracula blow mold!!! That thing is worth about $400! I have wanted that for years. You have so many cools things. You did a great job organizing. And, what a yard sale that's going to be! I would love to come shop. Did you say you were 20 when you bought your house?!? Wow! I just turned 56, and we're still in an apartment. : / I don't see us ever being able to get a house. We almost did 12 years ago. It was an awful experience. I was treated horribly, everything fell through, and I gave up. Anyway, sorry for rambling. You have the yellow wall phone that was in our kitchen when I was growing up. You have motivated me to do some purging and organizing. I needed that! Thanks! : )
Hi Diana! So glad you found it motivating. Yes the Dracula blow mold was on my dream wish list for years and I finally found him for $45 (he’s got cracks but I don’t care). Yes my big goal in life was to buy a house right away. I didn’t buy this house at 20, it was a different one and I sold it to move into this one. I did buy it while the housing crisis was still going on so that made it much more affordable. It’s nearly impossible to buy a house nowadays. Thanks for all the support and great questions ☺️💕
Wow! Thank you, thank you for doing this video! I plan on using some shallow boxes on my deeper shelving! Great tip! I am also doing a garage sale this summer so I’m using your motto, “If it doesn’t spark joy, it goes”. I’m also combining that with my clothing motto, “If I didn’t use it last season, it goes”.
Yay Kelly I’m so glad you found some helpful tips! 😄 I do the same thing with decorating for seasons, if you don’t use it, why keep it? Hope your yard sale goes well ☺️💕
Amazing makeover ... i'm sorry that i'm just getting to it now. I have a couple of questions ... I don''t think i have enough things to have a garage sale, but i do have many things of value that i'd like to get rid of. I generally donate to Goodwill and our church rummage, but if i want to make a few bucks on those valuable items, what should i do (without opening an etsy or ebay shop)? Also, I live in wisconsin and was wondering where/when is you garage sale? It would be fun to take a road trip to your neck of the woods :)
Wow, so many awesome collections !!!! I wish I lived close, so I could go to your yard sale😉looks like on the last part of your video, you trimmed your hair, looks cute!
Yahooo!! I was sooo curious to see what your basement looked like since you kept mentioning how scary it was lol. You did an amazing job, it looks great! I wish I had some cupboards like that in my basement, it's nice to keep the dust off you little items :)
You are so amazing 👏 💖 💗!! So happy for you and that you were able to do it in sections abd not get overwhelmed!! I need to do the same but with my whole house!! Thank you for sharing your process with us!!❤❤❤
I'm sitting here in -17 below Minnesota weather watching you do such a huge undertaking! Congrats on such a big accomplishment! I have a broken ankle so can't make it to my craft room which as more and more gets piled down there, is beginning to look like your shelves and cabinets pre-sorted. It will be waiting for me in the spring. You have some really, really cute items. I want to go to estate sales etc. Now! lol If only it was nice weather, right? Hugs
I've been trying to get my hoarder room under control for years, but put too much pressure on myself to meet deadlines because I think it will be motivating, but it only stops me from getting anything done. This makes me hopeful I can tackle my own mess (which is much too embarrassing to share on the internet) by just doing it bit by bit.
I know you have a dehumidifier in your basement now... but another thing to help keep from getting mold growing is not to keep items against your walls ...they need space between the items and the wall because the wall keeps moisture in it and if you have space between the wall and the item you can get airflow... and not keep your cabinets closed... so air can circulate around your items... these are just tips to help you ...I try not to keep any of my furniture right up against the wall because after awhile you pull it out and it seems mold is on the walls..it is from alot of humidity in the air and if you don't get air circulation it will develop...just some tips ...love your collections ...if you have me come early to your sale I will help you get rid of some of this ....love garage sales...will come with a fist full of cash...
Thanks for the tips, Linda! I actually never keep the cabinet door close for that exact reason, I just closed them for a video 😂 I won’t be able to let you come early to the sale since I have to keep it fair for everyone, but you’re welcome to come the opening day ☺️

I LOVE how you say that low expectations for yourself are the key😍, I love to have a clean environment but get very overwhelmed easily. Great job🤍
Your setting the bar low advice is amazing and now I can look at organization without guilt, thank you so much. Love your channel !!🤩🤩🤩
Your basement is so clean, usually they're dirt floor with unfinished walls, lol.

Super cute hair cut! Also, love your kitty! When he was meowing, my cats were looking all over my house trying to find where the kitty was lol!
Thank you and oh my gosh that’s so cute 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 Buddy says hi! Your comment made my day 💕
Thank you. I have this issue and nobody is addressing this on TH-cam. I feel like we are preserving history. I really hope someone can continue after I die. Lol😢
So lucky to have a basement. Very rare here. I know I would keep too much though
I am grateful for my basement but also it can be not so nice too. And I agree it enables you to keep more stuff 😂
Are basements in addition to garages, too usually?
good for you holding on to items for a sale- after I get like 4 boxes , just want them out.
Thankyou for this video Emily! You did a great job and it was incredibly motivational!! That’s gonna be some garage sale!! Have a great organized day !😊
Wow, I hold on to everything. Awesome job!
Thank you, Kelly ☺️
Good job! Great tips😊

Super job! You did it!
Looks fantastic!
Greetings from Australia. I love your vintage items. Do you swap them out to decorate? What else do you do with them?
I found myself cheering you on! I love how determined you were to make the changes you wanted. I also loved seeing your decor! 💛
Aw thank you, Betsy!!! 🥹💕
Great job! Such satisfaction in cleaning & clearing out, and reorganizing.
Totally agree, very satisfying ☺️

Aw yeah I wish you could come too! Haha good catch, yes I did cut it 🤣 You can tell the video took a while haha!!
Amazing! Looks a lot more like a decor “inventory” vs storage area!! 🎉
Well that’s a high compliment, thanks Robyn 😄
Miss Em, I am proud of you! Congratulations 🎉
Aw thanks, Petra! Miss you! 💕
Yahooo!! I was sooo curious to see what your basement looked like since you kept mentioning how scary it was lol. You did an amazing job, it looks great! I wish I had some cupboards like that in my basement, it's nice to keep the dust off you little items :)
Haha yes it is quite dark and scary 🤣 I totally agree the two built in cupboards have been super nice to have. Thanks for watching ☺️

Great job Emily!!! I truly enjoyed seeing your items. Some items I had when I was a kid.

I’m so sorry about your ankle, Jeanie! I hope you get better soon in time for flea market season ☺️💕
gah! i wish i could make it to your garage sale!
Aw too bad!
Yes idk why the deadlines hurt way more than help but it’s a big thing for me too! Best of luck to you and your pile, you can do it 🥳💕
So when is garage sale? I'm up for a road trip across the state!
It’ll be sometime this summer, I’ll be sure to announce it ☺️

I know I was just joking you would have a stampede of people coming early ...I think your going to have a stampede any way...
Anyone know the cream purex pattern at around 10:30 ? I love it 💖
