    We re living a rich period of classical music, neglected and buried under layers of stupid fads fololwed by the majority. One day this musical ocean will emerge.

      @@steffen5121 a blunt and immature generalisation, not agreed! we´re living in a rich period of a great variety of very different musical genres, more accessible than ever through soundcloud, bandcamp and for course youtube (for instance) - the majority was seldom ready for sophisticated music, but that is nothing bad - who wants more interesting music has to look for it, but that is nothing new - the listeners of sophisticated music like classical music or jazz or african percussion or whatever should be careful not to be chauvinistic in their minds and utterings - nothing is great enough for the mind, nothing is too minor for the heart (wilhelm busch...

      @@allaboutexperience1046 hmmm, i´m not quite sure, if i get what you want to tell me, perhaps you could write a little more?
      i myself listened to the cure in the early 80s, it was the time when we heard also the music of wire (chairs missing, pink flag, 154), talking heads (fear of music), eno/byrne (my life in the bush of ghosts), eno (music for airports, onland), the slits (cut), harold budd (the pavillon of dreams), young marble giants (colossal youth), this heat, elvis costello, joy division and many, many others, these are just a few that come to my mind spontaneously...
      after that i went into reggae and african music for a long time - during the 90s i began to like techno/house and then discovered goa/psytrance which was "daily bread" then until i founded a family in 2000 and lost trace of comtemporary music...
      since a few years i spent a lot of time browsing youtube due to an illness, which forced me to stay at home - i have widespread musical interests, one of them is music like this here, but is just a small part...
      this channel here is really good in posting well selected exquisite works of modern composers - but it will always be music for special people - i am one of these and i´m very happy to know several such special channels which provide me with exceptional music to satisfy my hunger... :-)
      greetings from germany

      What difference will it make if one or one million people are listening to the same music as you? This mentality derives from the idea that music shouldbe widespread to be truly appreaciated. Not, it doesn't. Just enjoy your music.

    The harmony here is sensually gorgeous. The [vastly reduced] instrumentation is perfect. The performance is excellent. Lovely piece. The only thing to not like is if it is simply 'not to your taste,' lol.

    Rihm réclame une écoute indulgente au début, puis il prête sa beauté et son intelligence écorchée, jusqu'à ce que l’on soit happé inéluctablement dans son univers. Chaque écoute de cet "Astralis" dévoile un peu plus de son mystère et de sa féérie, mais pour autant son œuvre n’en devient pas intemporelle, loin s'en faut........

    The musical material chose for "Astralis" is in itself original. The composition sounds rather "classical". Rihm did not look for exceptional effects in that score, when compared to many of his colleagues in avant-garde.In a clssical way, but very far from any romantic feeling, the solo cello seems to vehicle the "musical energy" which is more diffuse in th choir. Rihm is a very prolific composer, but Stravinsky couls not gave been as aggressive for him as he was for Vivaldi. Rihm always find an orifinal style ulfilling his goals. In a vaery calssical way, I would suggest to you to listen his succesive string quartetes, as for Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Bartok or Shostakovich..This eperience deserves indeed to be undertaken with an open mind;
