nice tutorial. in case we want straight extrusions to maintain typography/letter geometry, we can also use Apply UV and then extrude each letter separately, selecting the extrusion direction from a construction line that is perpendicular to each letter's center. we can either draw a line from start to end of letter on top view and then the perpendicular, or if we have letter surfaces, directly with the Surface Normal command and clicking approximately to the horizontal center of each letter.

Is it possible to use photographs instead of three-dimensional text?
if they are black and white clip art. you can have it trace. If it is photograph in super high resolution. you may use highfield but it will never get in much detail like photographs

maybe I ask if rhinoceros 4.0 has the red green blue coordinate. how turn on? my rhinoceros shows only a cross.

Thank you very much, very well explained. Is it possible to do the same thing using Uv curve, with a non rectangular base surface? For example with a cone. I didn't succeed to do the same thing properly using a target surface which is not rectangular when unrolled. Could you explain us how to do so?
HI Max, Yes, you can apply to any "single" surface with UV curve. However, when you flow back to the tight area, like the tip of cone, it will distort the form/object a lot.

Hi Zukii, to create UV curve is to flatten a surface on construction plane. so you and design your pattern flat. sometimes it is hard to design in 3D. once you have your design done. you can flow the design (curve or solid) back the the original surface. and welcome to the club!

How do you write an arc text in Rihno

Well, whenever I create a box, and then try to add a text to it, text ends up at the bottom of the box - I try to create a surface etc etc. And that SIMPLE thing............I have found no tutorial on it. Rhino seems like a very bloated program. When a really simple thing becomes such an issue... Flat surface, which I assume is not a surface, otherwise It would have worked, and then trying to add simple text to it.... (to the extrude the text and make the text a negative). But no, not with Rhino. I think it is a failure when a simple thing like that becomes a problem.
