It did but it was what viewers wanted - not viewers like you and I however , viewer numbers started to drop when it was traditional like this ,in the mid nineties , society changed , became more selfish and crime became more elaborate. As the multi-channel age took hold
I don't buy into the theory, what exactly do you have to keep up with? Gritty and real life will always be appealing because it's true. Brookside etc went down the road of people buying bars and gym etc. People wanted drama not nonsense like what Brookside became.
@@muk8804 The problem was the show had been pumping out three episodes per week just about all year, it was burnt out by 97 cos they'd recycled plots so much they had nowhere else to go and with the viewer drop they went the sensationalist route to get back the ratings but the cost was the integrity of the show and even when they did go back to being a police procedural in the 00s it had lost the uniqueness it had during these years because they just shot it conventionally and not like the fly on the wall documentary style they started with. They shouldn't have done so many episodes.
Yeah he was an extra before they made him a regular, he was usually in scenes where they wanted heavies for raids. So though he isn't considered a series foundation cast member he was pretty much there from the first series just he didn't have dialogue til later.
Oh come on! This are 2 different things.......... Colonial hongkies then going thru interesting time. Hahahahahaha! Singapore was and is the best in policing to the extend that under lee kuan yew, repeated litter bugs made to wear corrective work order t shirt and clearing rubbish in the park😂😂😂😂😂.

19:55 Writer cameo - the man in the brown leather jacket behind Galloway is legendary The Bill writer and technical adviser Barry Appleton
great script, realistic dialogue
Norman Beaton is a legend
Want your hair curly?
Always keep it gritty and real and you can't lose, the show went like Brookside in the end very stupid and daft unrelatable plots.

...all programmes had to compete and plots became faster and more elaborate and attention spans of viewers have become so much shorter .

It also wasn't helped when they were forced to go to half hour episodes and before the watershed.

@@newsbender yeah countless roles, too many to name.
23:25 is that Tony Stamp ?
Yep. Uncredited in this first appearance, would return as a regular in 1987.

One of my favourite characters
Brownlow was at his heart a good cop. You can tell from this. Pitty he became a parody of a cop later on.
They love UB40
Hahaha, they surely do.
Aren't they lovely

What this episode or The Bill as a whole?
