I don’t even art or nothin and I still find all this interesting as hell. 10/10 breakdowns on all the topics I’ve seen so far dude keep up the hard work 👌🏻
Adam, it's honestly amazing how characters come to life when you put your hands on them! Recently started getting into pixel art and your work is an inspiration!
A cool way to practice this is by starting with a random silhouette. I like to scribble some random shape and then fill it in. Then I basically play that "What's that Pokemon?" game on my random shape and start making it into something by blocking out some shapes with a few shades of grey. The way your initial scribble looks will also often inspire you to use a distinctive artstyle. Would recommend giving it a try, if you are new to blocking and unsure how to create silhouettes on the screen from ideas in your head :)
Can you later show how you would animate this character please? sprite animation is the area I have most difficulty with, and usually is where I give up
yeah im late to the party but ive been going through your tutorials and literally just doing what you are and it has taught me so much. this is the best way for me to learn. thanks for these videos.
When I see good pixel art like this, I also can’t help but think about the painted style of ‘ Fear & Hunger ‘ I’ve never seen any tutorials or any other game do that style.
I'm a programmer, not an artist. I mess about with Pico-8 sometimes so I do some very rudimentary pixel art for that but that's my limit. Really enjoyed watching this video just for the sake of watching it. Great content, awesome character!
I really appreciate this video. People should learn pixel art and not think it’s better to stay at 16x16 or 32x32 to start. Better to have space and better to have a comparison instead of deleting what you have
Dang I totally lost track of time watching you and didn't even realize 30 minutes had passed until the video ended Also, your elephant looks really fantastic
I think I could learn a lot by your point about playing around with an idea whilst it's still in the early conception stage. I usually just go right ahead with whatever thing works first and tweak it from there.
I have zero artistic ability, I have no idea why this was recommended to me but I watched it all and was amazed at how easy you made it look. I know that's due to your own abilities but it really made me want to give it a shot
Hey Adam, very nice videos, I've been learning quite a lot about pixel art and hopefully all this will inspire me to create my own things!! Keep it up - Martin from France
After watching your Pixel Art Class sharing, I think I should be able to start drawing my characters again. Thank you, man. 看了你的课程分享,我想我应该可以重新开始画我的角色了。谢谢你,伙计。
Excuse me, sorry if this is a dumb question, but how were you painting over just the silhouette at 14:56 ? I'm pretty new to Aesprite so I don't know everything just yet. Very interesting watch so far by the way, thank you very much for that.
I actually started with pixel art! I found it easier to learn becausr of the constraints. I also have a 11 tone grayscale pallet I use to do the preliminary work, I find it freeing to work in those limits.
Adam, could you make a series creating characters like this from different themes, without necessarily being characters in your game? Well, it's a nice type of video to watch and be inspired by. It would be interesting to see you take one or more random themes and explore that.
Hi Adam! Thank you for making these -- i do want to know how you were able to have it so that your brush was only able to paint on the silhouette you created and not on the transparent background. This would make it much easier for me to play around with colors and not have to worry about going in an erasing colors that bled over the silhouette i created. I just subbed, because after comparing your videos to the others out there, yours seem to be the more informative and have the highest quality. Keep it up! I know you're helping inspire a lot of other beginners out there. Also, your Insignia game looks great!
I'm not sure what program you're using, but there are two options depending on the program! (I don't have the program he's using, so I don't know what the features on it are.) There is a setting called Protect Alpha on certain programs, which paints on the silhouette you have created. You could also use a Clipping Layer to draw on the silhouette you created as well. Hope this helped! Looking up the program you're using can help as well :)
I had the brilliant idea of speedrunning the design process of a game - sketching on paper, coloring that, then redrawing it digitally in Krita, then making pixel art, then exporting and making the game in RPG Maker VX Ace... basically becomes a meme at that point
I can see an entire game for your elephant. It's called saving Nellie. After leaving the circus Nellie settles down and starts a family, only to be stollen back by the circus(paraphrasing). Nellies husband(your character) must fight his way through poachers and circus clowns e.t.c. in order to free his wife and children. GREAT CONTENT(i like anything which makes me think).
those 2 eye reflection pixels are crazy
Yeah they are
Those dots make all the difference
Dafuq you doing here Broccoli man?
I was a 13:54 and my 2 year old daughter came by and pointed at the screen and yelled ”ELEPHANTIE”.
Great silluette work!!
this is our Pixel art Bob Ross. starts from nothing, ends with amazing art. Great tutorials. gave me a new perspective as a beginner
It's completely admirable how you go from nothing to some amazing sprites almost like you're working with clay, man. Hats off.
Man, I've learned a lot with your tutorials, thank you master 🙏
This one was amazing, you could literally start a series out of doing just this and I would watch every single episode. A new character every episode.
Been having a blast on this channel and I haven't even watched for an hour yet. Hopefully i'll be able to catch your stream soon!
Thanks so much, See you there :)

wow I learned more about character sprite design from this 30 min video than I have since i started getting into pixel art

This is really freaking good. I love watching the design process. It also make me realize just how much there is to learn.

Two years ago and still mindblowing... Well played sir.
"This look is wholly owned by FF characters"
Me, who thought they were Terraria characters: Uh, yeah, totally.
“If he’s got huge pecks, it makes him being shirtless less funny.”
😂 I probably shouldn’t have found that as funny as I did.
Same tbh xD
@@DaFlashlightClay It's all fun and games until you see a huge Wrestler elephant with giant muscles shirtless in front of you
same lmao
Can you later show how you would animate this character please? sprite animation is the area I have most difficulty with, and usually is where I give up
Yeah I find this to be extremely hard, as soon as you move beyond 16x16px sprites, especially if your character has long legs.
Me three 😅 maybe you could link it if you've made one
Really enjoyed watching you create the Elephant Character ! thanks for a great video :)
Doesn't matter how long am gone for anytime I come back I learn so many new things, thank you

Thats sooo good! I've been getting into pixel art again the last days and this is such a huge inspiration

The final result is great. I love your loose approach to creating this stuff. I'm complete beginner, so still drawing stuff pixel by pixel.
You are so talented. It is such an inspiration to watch talented people creating something.

Great stuff. I thought this character looked awesome from the thumbnail and it was great to see your process for creating something like this
I was looking, a lot, for a video like this, thanks a lot.
