Guitars have a metal rod running up the inside of the neck to keep it straight called the truss rod. That’s probably why you couldn’t screw through the middle

Fully tuned up guitar strings add around 70-80 pounds of tension between the head-stock and bridge. That's probably why it broke so quickly the first time. It's also why it hurts when they break and pop you!
