As a person living in EU, I can vouch for Minister's statement that Vande Bharat is cheapest for same quality as Germany's ICE trains. VB has similar if not better interiors and technology than ICEs with average pricings of €100+ for say 500 odd KMS (non direct in off season). Also, there is no catering in the ticket price, you've to buy expensive food from an onboard restaurant. Please be proud of VB, it is a qualitative rival to German ICEs.

Also correct that upto 400km use road, 400-1000 rail and 1000+ air. On pricing, a 3ac ticket for an overnight ticket -upto 16hr/1200km should not exceed 30$ (4c a mile)- since airline tickets are available for 50$+ and for a family of 4 driving may become cheaper. Maybe with food n wifi, 10$ more. Another area to monetize is a 5-10$ lounge that folks could use upto 6hrs post or after a trip and season surges

I agree that privatising railways could be a risky move. It's not working in USA. But we should focus on railway safety in our country. Especially in Eastern India.

Railways in the US aren't really *privatized* though. Amtrak is a government-owned company. Most local transports like subways etc. are owned by the state or the city they are in. The only private passenger rail company in the US is Brightline, which is tiny. Only the freight railways are private.

After years or decades of neglect, the Railways is now on fast track mode, thanks to the Minister and his huge team of dedicated employees.

Indian Railways has segment pricing very well. There are different levels of train services on each route. The cheapest will be the passenger trains. Railway passengers can self-select appropriate service based on cost, time, quality, and convenience. Indian Railways should not try to make Vande Bharat service cheap. If they do that, the quality will go down immediately.
If you compare the ticket costs and calculate. The cost per km of Indian Railways is a reasonable means of travel compared to any other country. I live in the US and know how much one pays for travel on Amtrak. Even after making appropriate corrections based on PPP, Indian Railways is way ahead.
Mr. Vaishnaw clearly stated that the occupancy rate for the Vande Bharat Express is 98%. This indicates that a good segment of society is willing to pay the fare. One has to get over the socialistic mindset. The goal should not be to make the top-tier train service, such as the bullet train or Vande Bharat, into a low-fare service. India, with a population of around 1.4 billion, has a significant number of people in class service.
Indian Railways has to be a profitable enterprise.

Light cargo should be transported half by trains and half by electric drones(which need faster delivery times) and waterways.Road transport should not be for long distance routes.Only lcv should be used for delivering from stations to the retail.
Heavy trucks need to shut shop and all truck capacities need to shift towards buses so that they can utilize the expressways that have been built, these buses should be the sole medium for workers to travel from bihar and up to other states. The railway tickets should be raised and all trains should be high end vande bharat and bullet trains,so that impetus on railways continues for the next 20 years.
Transporting goods through trucks is a regressive step.Efficient economies don't think of boosting certain companies or sectors, they think of the efficient way of doing business.Of course the expressways need to be freed from debt for that the movement of blue collared labour has to be done through buses. It will also give an alternative to truck makers and decrease the need for fuel further.
Strive for efficiency is a must, can't have old and inefficient industries shutting shop be a detriment for a vision of better india.

Crux heavy trucks give way to railways and waterways, capacities of truckmakers shift to buses and use railways as a growth model for the next 20 years for both domestic and export sector.

All of this is good! But, he really needs to do something about people without right tickets occupying seats in trains...
Most of the trains are overcrowded and gets filled with people who hadnt even bought a ticket. This has been a issue ever since he became the Minister of Railways. He really needs to priortise solving this issue before launching new VB trains that cant even run at their max speed due to tracks not being upgraded.
He really needs to jist focus on MEITY and give up Railways for someone who is more capable. Clearly he isnt fit for running more than one ministry

he said that within next 5-7 year it will be sorted out, as india first need to add 50000 km of tracks, several new trains, and seperate the freight from passanger track with dedicated freight corridors

Can you imagine a similar interview with previous railway ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Mamata Banerjee?

    • @anujsethi7845
      @anujsethi7845 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

He says the same thing in every interview.
Same set of questions and answers.
He is good at it because he keeps repeating it.
He is better than others but modi ji modi ji bda karta hai I guess tabi minister banaya hai.
But ya he is the finest among them.
Anyways he missed several of deadlines.
      Might be because of workload.
He should handle one ministry I guess.
