So funny from ‘78 to 82 they had that glass, but it didn’t open except for this edition. GM was odd back then.

Love it...thx for featuring it. When these came out, i was so disenchanted with all cars at that time that I dismissed it as a last gasp disco paint and trim poseur, but now, in light of what we have for new cars today, i really dig it, especially that cool multi-toned striped interior. although - I have a '74 with stock seats and it's a tight fit - those heavy bolsters in the collector edition pretty much say: big boys, do not apply.

I just finished restoring an 82 CE. It was one of those that sat in a garage its whole life only had 12k on the odometer when I got it. All original even down to the tires but needed work to make it drivable. Getting the hatch to be leak free was a huge pain. One more thing unique to the CE was that it had a 2.87 gear ratio vs 2.72. You got the slightly shorter gears with aluminum wheels.

_I really think this 'last' of the best generation of Corvette(in my eyes), was a winner in the 'Collector Edition'. Is the car valuable? Not so much(unless mothballed), and with next to 0 miles. (Even then, I dare so only to a collector is this swan song Corvette worth much money). Sure enjoy your videos Ben._

Hi CorvetteBen I agree with you, the Corvette Collector's Edition everything is more expensive... But it's such a beautiful and cool car if you knew everyone around me is a fan and can't wait for me to finish it. I am French and I am currently restoring a Collector's 1982 with Quartz clock option which makes it more authentic. Thank you for your videos which helped me to understand this mechanics which is very different from our Europeans.

Had a 82 and then traded it for an 84. Both had the dreaded "Cease Fire Injection". (LOL!)
Never had a bit of trouble with either of them.
I even sent away for a chip to unleash the extra power in the '84.
LOL. Looking back at it, it was pretty much snake oil.
Been looking for years for a set of those awesome 82 wheels to put on my Nevada Silver colored 1971 LS5. Someday...

$4,000 for appearance stuff only in 1982... JEEEEEZ, That's 20% more than the base vette that year...

Back in 84 i bought an 84 vette almost new, had it for 7 yrs and i had so much trouble with that car, like a blinking dash and the 4+3 trans had to be rebuilt at 85,000m and tons of electric problem... only the engine and diff was good on that car!

Our CE was very much used and loved through the years. Although it's pretty solid, it'll probably never be anywhere near showroom quality again. Just for example, the hood decal on ours is badly faded and cracked. Took one look at the price for a new decal and we concluded the original one is just fine for us. Then there's the smashed airdam...
Thanks for the heads-up on the hatch being hard to find. I'll be extra careful opening it now (It gets stuck)

This C3 model was the first Corvette to break the 20 thousand dollar plateau. The "MISfire Fuel Injection" system was quite the headache for most owners who actually put miles on the car. Correct on the interior carpeting. It was a much more plush knap on this limited edition model. Just viewed one in pristine condition selling for 60 large. 🚘🔍. 💲💲💲

This is a great video! I always new that the '82 was unique, but had no idea the cost of that uniqueness! That back glass is a real shocker. Everything on a Corvette is special and GM was just making you pay for it. The '82 looked neat when it came out, but not $4000 neat.

  • @shadvan9494
    @shadvan9494 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I am a huge fan of C3 corvettes. the 82 CE is a particular favorite of mine. although i personally hate the crossfire injection. it was really cease-fire injection. one other thing about C3 with t-tops is that they all leak. another odd ball of the C3 is the 68 corvettes. they did all kinds of goofy mid-year changes to them, and the door lock are a 1 year only item and no one reproduces them, and most lock smiths are no longer able to make keys for them. I would love to buy a CE if i could find a high quality driver like the one in the video.

Owner 1982 two tone 24/26 code. Cross-Fire hater here. The 80-82 has always been my favorite looking, I call them shovel nosed. I loved the paint scheme on the collectors, but hated the wheels. Little know fact- There were fewer two tones made then collectors editions. (4871)

A lot of the people that bought those collector's editions bought them as an investment hoping that they could hold onto them for a few years and realize a profit so they didn't drive them. I n the small town where I lived at the time one woman did that and the only time you seen the car was at founder's day parade. Not driving those cars was hard on the fuel injection system causing some of the reliability problems with them.

I had a friend in the mid 1980’s that had a real nice yellow 74. The guy he bought it from became a party buddy who happened to have an 82 collectors edition, car was probably four years old at the time. He and another guy apparently got drunk and the owner decided he couldn’t drive,so he gave the keys to his friend who ended up destroying that 82 in a single car accident. I remember seeing what was left of it and it was 2 foot piece of fiberglass from the door. Nobody died though.

Pretty good cover on the specialties and oddities of this model. The Special edition is one my favorites of the C3 generation. On correction. The engine only cranked out about 200 horse and about 280 lb ft of torque. Not very impressive but still fun to drive. The 84s where slightly and mean slightly better. They where rated at 205 hp and 290 lb ft of torque. Again not impressive but fun to drive. I current have an 84.

The Crossfire or "Ceasefire" used to have the TPS(throttle position sensors) break or stop working. There were 2 and @ $60 a shot it wasn't cheap to fix. What made it worse is they could inexplicably stop working again in a week with no warning. I thought I heard where someone figured out how to make them last. Some thing you could check and it would keep them from dieing. Anyone know? My buddy had a new Camaro back in the day and he said the thing ran great. But when it died it sucked. He finally put a carb on it.

Late to the party but I own a '82 and did the Crossfire-delete option. Took out all the emissions (shhhh)... Installed carb, intake, fuel pressure regulator. Ran great but the shop didn't do the transmission upgrade to make overdrive work. I had to do that myself. Spent over $4k at two shops screwing with and eventually removing the crossfire injection. Crossfire was fine until it wasn't. And then it was just awful.
The C3 is a good platform. Thinking of a LS crate motor just for giggles next.

Very odd that they did not design the hatch to open on all years of the C3. Loading even a medium weight bag in the back through the doors was no fun plus C3 was not an economy car where the buyer was okay with giving up a little functionality for saving money.
