What a beautiful Culture Our Dominican Culture So diverse, we have Taino , European and African Played out in different parts of our beautiful Dominican Republic . Quisqueya La Bella am so Proud to be Dominican though my grandparents are both from Spain and my great grand father from the U.S. while one of my grand mothers the one from my father side was black i believe she might be descendant from Africa. As you can see we dominicans are a beautiful big mix of Ethnic backgrounds...

In reality, the cibao is not more European influenced, Palo is played in all corners of the island minus small campos near Santiago. The European and even African influences are always hyper-local to each town and campo, for example Bani which is the south has more European traditions then Cotui which is in the north(cibao), Bani has canarian singing styles such as Chuines.

@@VivaBellabyXtina Yes. For example Cotui's Afro-catholic brotherhood is the oldest icontious in the americas, and in the island founded in the 1520s and still alive. here they are in this video.

The drums are to touch the ground so the spirits can hear us drumming to them, it calls them. I don't wanna say too much else but It's usually tied to brujeria but I love my stuff sorry. Specially my palo baby. It calls my spirit I can't help but dance and go off to this. I'm from Bani, I didn't know it was even just tied specifically to our area like that. People look at you a certain way when they see you going the same way as the drums are going. Alot of people are scared of it I can't live without it I guess that why I'm here lol. I was born into it man I want it at my funeral and everybody stomping on the ground dancing.

Hermoso documental!! Our african culture of how we worship YaHWeH, the same way we did since the days of David, from our mother land has been stained with santeria/brujeria/catolisismo y perversidad. Para alcanzr esta coneccion santa y apartada de adorar a nuestro señor YAHSHUA(jesus) es un dever que le devemos a nuestra generacion.

I know this is a old thread. But I've heard Bomba is descended from Tumba Francesa. Which makes sense. Was playing Bullerengue Sentao for some Puerto Rican ladies at the park and they loved it. Just stumbled on this Palo music and introduced it to some Mexican friends and they loved the call and response singing. I'm also a fan of Changüi.

Is the cibao the region with the most African influence?

    • @VivaBellabyXtina

No it's the opposite, there tends to be more European influence/DNA in the cibao

Além de ser o nome de um país, Congo, Congado ou Congada também é o nome de uma dança ancestral dos descendentes de escravizados naturais do Espírito Santo, que existe desde a época imperial.
