Neon Dynasty Tamiyo has to be one of the coolest sleeper cards of standard! You always make such creative and intuitive decks, Luca! You're the best, man!!!
56:14 - "So there is a scenario where we just make a lot of notebook tokens, keep activating them in full control." That won't work. All the 'copy' effects go on the stack and select a target before resolving in sequence. When the first book copy is made, legend rule kicks in, and you need to choose one. Keeping the 'new, untapped book' will remove the target for the copy effects that remain on the stack. Nice deck though, looks fun! Opponent's deck in match 5 also looked interesting.
It’s like, sure I guess being able to use Deluge twice is relevant. But Farsight gets you deeper into the deck for basically free, considering how many random tokens there are in standard.
I put mondrak in twice instead of two wandering emporers and the latgame is just nuts. It can flip the irencrag and is always a must removal even though it just enhances your strategy while not being required.
Tamiyo has got to be my favorite standard card right now, and I've been looking for a deck to make full use of her for a while! So glad to see her as the star of the video! Just the other day I was also thinking about trying to get Tamiyo and Three Blind Mice to work together, although I tried to see if I could make tokens of things like Broker's Ascendency and copy those - didn't end up working out, but it was a fun experiment. What do you think of See Double as a potential inclusion? It's a neat card that doesn't get a lot of attention - do you think it would be good enough as a backup plan, or would it just take up space that could be used to dig for combo pieces?
Don't think See Double would work very well since it requires us to have 7 mana to set up the combo, while basically 2 cards in our hand weren't contributing the entire time we were holding them.
Urza's Sylex looks legit as a option. It could put a Mouse from battlefield into graveyard and go and get Tamiyo, clear the board. It just does not exile everything.
Interesting deck. I don't agree with some of the looting choices though. e.g. 47:32 I'd have kept revelry and ditched make disappear, as you've already stated it's lost value as the opponent has oodles of mana, and land + revelry here would be all 3 modes to help stall and incentivise the opponent to over extend. And at 50:50 I would have ditched both lands, as you already have 7 lands, Tamiyo doesn't do much on this board state so you can hold up incubate and the make disappear for the reinforcements they almost certainly have considering you can see they elected not to play a veteran with 2 mana up, and at worst can still flashback a mending. What I really don't understand is keeping 2 lands here when all you need to do is stall for time for mice supremacy?
Those are all close decisions and I can definitely see your arguments. Going for Revelry does make a lot of sense and might've been the correct play, but with how they ended up using Soaring City on the Incubator it's possible that this worked out for the best. As a general rule of thumb I like hitting every land drop when playing a control deck that has access to lots of card draw effects, so might've been too much on autopilot at that point. With how conservative the opponent was playing that game I didn't really put them on Reinforcements for not playing the Veteran, but makes sense to keep a counter for it.
Three Blind Mice token copying itself looks like a really interesting combo. Reminds me of the old Saheeli Rai/Felidar Soverign combo back in Kaladesh standard.
I've been playing something similar, but green white with the combo being Calix and three mice. It works well, I'm almost Mythic now. Would love to send you a deck list somehow...
One line of approach not mentioned in the deck tech that is..... Unlikely but could win you 1 in every 500 games..... If you have a token wandering emperor and you have the copy train rolling..... Even though it will legend rule itself you could still activate each one (due to emperors passive) before the next resolves. Potentially letting you sweep a bunch of tapped creatures.... Or give your whole board first strike. Very specific and unlikely but don't ignore the possibility.
@@LegenVD why not? Emperors passive didn't care about being cast. It just has to enter this turn. Each of the copies are separate triggers so you should be able to hold priority (after legend ruling the previous/oldest token) activate an ability on the stack, let ability resolve, let next copy trigger resolve, keep new one, rinse repeat for as many triggers that you chose to target emperor. It doesn't really work with other Planeswalkers because they cannot activate abilities when you can cast an instant.
@@connergish9060 Just play it through: lets say you go to your first main phase and the three blind mice trigger go on to the stack, you target your token copy of wandering emperor with every trigger. The first ability resolves, you create a copy of the wandering emperor and keep the new one to activate its ability. Since the old wandering emperor token copy is now no longer on the battlefield, all remaining three blind mice trigger fizzle, which is why this unfortunately does not work.
@@TreeSixVideoCorp ah.... Right target no longer there for further copies.... So it would work if it was somehow not legendary (but at that point you just keep the copies) but that is waaaaaay too many hoops for an already niche situation
At 28:52, why wouldn't you just flashback the second mending during your turn so you can potentially hit your land drop? You were already pretty ahead so I doubt it would have mattered, but I was just wondering if there was some benefit of waiting to flashback mending.
I've been looking for the best way to get this to work since finding Three Blind Mice, I've been using Invasion of Vryn with some UW flyers to try get the transformed battle and copy the spell, but it's been unreliable, this seems much better.
tbh, it could work well in a Seles Enchant deck. It would give Mice the extra versatility of copying other token enchantments like Ossification or Audacity. Those would be created with (usually) Calix and maybe Yenna.

Edit: Unfortunately, this doesn’t actually work, since the Legend rule fizzles the remaining triggers. For that last game, you could copy Wandering Emperor a few more times to exile their entire board, since her abilities can be activated before the remaining Three Blind Mice triggers resolve. Not that it really mattered in the end though.
Oops, turns out this doesn’t actually work. Legend rule causes the remaining Three Blind Mice triggers to fizzle after you make the first copy. My bad!

@25:20 Feldon's the one you shouldn't have targeted, right? While the Kumano is the better block with the knight token you had the 3rd Wanderer in hand to exile Feldon on the next cycle. By targeting Feldon this cycle, if the opponent Play with Fires their own Feldon (instead of your face) you still fall to 1 (since you don't gain the life) but they see 2 extra cards off the Feldon. I was trying to figure out how fast these mice grow, and the result should look something like this: call u, v, w the three (complex) solutions to the polynomial x^3 - x - 1. NB: they are not nice numbers, you can ask Wolfram alpha for an exact expression. Let M be the Vandermonde matrix associated to u, v, w, we define a, b, c to satisfy (a b c)M=(1 1 2), or (a b c)=(1 1 2)M^-1. NB: M^-1 is even uglier than u, v, w already are. Then, if the recursion starts at a certain turn, assuming no interaction from the opponent, after n turns we will have number of copies of Three Blind Mice = a(u^(n+1)-u^(n-1))/(u-1)+b(v^(n+1)-v^(n-1))/(v-1)+c(w^(n+1)-w^(n-1))/(w-1), number of mice tokens = a(u^(n+1)-1)/(u-1)+b(v^(n+1)-1)/(v-1)+c(w^(n+1)-1)/(w-1). Of course, mtg players would prefer to know the order of growth, rather than the exact numbers. Well, it's an exponential growth, so very fast, but still slower than 2^n (what you would get by attacking with Myrel, for example), and even slower than the Fibonacci numbers. I was honestly expecting it to be faster than the Fibonacci numbers.
